The relations between India and Pakistan have been strained right from the partition days and Jammu and Kashmir has always been the focus point of any discussion between the two countries. Many efforts have been made to normalise the relations, however, no tangible results have been forthcoming. Some hopes were seen during the tenure of Sheikh Abdullah as Chief Minister, however, the events took a downward turn after his death in 1982. The situation in J&K deteriorated and militancy took its roots across the state in a big way. Good governance is an integral part of any effective government. However, in a conflict situation and disturbed environment, where the lives and interests of ordinary people are under pressure, the issue of a functioning government becomes even more crucial. This is exactly where the governance system failed the people of the state when the trouble started. By the beginning of 1990, the administration in Srinagar and some other towns of the Valley had almost collapsed. Jammu and Kashmir has been struggling with the scourge of terrorism for three decades now. This has caused untold miseries to the people of the state; with thousands losing life and many more getting hurt. The turmoil has also resulted in huge losses to public and private properties. This book attempts a panoramic overview of the peace process, in different stages and phases over the past seven decades, between India and Pakistan from 1947 onwards; with special reference to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The author, having been involved in many of these processes very closely, has covered these details in most authentic and unbiased manner.

Auf diese Weise hat die vorliegende Arbeit das Ziel, die Vorstellungen zu analysieren, die die Sch ler des Gymnasiums der staatlichen Hochschule Benjamim Jos de Almeida ber die Pr senz der Frau in der Wissenschaft haben. Unsere Lekt re geht von der Erkenntnis aus, dass es ein soziales Problem gibt - die Machtasymmetrien, die die Geschlechterfrage betreffen. Als Handlungsziel wurde die Dekonstruktion von gesellschaftlich etablierten Konzepten durch einen p dagogischen Workshop mit dem Titel "Der Platz der Frau in der Wissenschaft" angestrebt. Auf diese Weise zeigte der Untersuchungsprozess, dass es sowohl bei m nnlichen als auch bei weiblichen Studenten Reden mit Macho-Tendenzen gibt und dass sich die stereotype Sichtweise in Bezug auf das Geschlecht in erheblichem Ma e in der Berufswahl widerspiegelt.
In this work, we seek to associate science education from a human rights perspective, through a practice that favors the empowerment of the feminine gender, since researches indicate a discrepant difference in the number of women in the areas of exact sciences in relation to men. In this way, the present work has as objective of investigation to analyze the conceptions that the students of the High School of the State College Benjamim Jos de Almeida have about the presence of the woman in science. Our reading starts from the comprehension of the existence of a social problem - the power asymmetries which involve gender issues. As an action objective, the deconstruction of socially pre-established concepts was sought through a pedagogical workshop called "A woman's place is in Science". In this way, the investigation process pointed out the existence of both male and female students' speeches with macho tendencies, revealing that the stereotyped vision in relation to gender reflects in a significant way in professional choices.
Dans ce travail, nous cherchons associer l'enseignement des sciences la perspective des droits de l'homme, par le biais d'une pratique qui favorise l'autonomisation du genre f minin, tant donn que les recherches indiquent une diff rence discordante dans le nombre de femmes dans les domaines des sciences exactes par rapport aux hommes. In questo lavoro, cerchiamo di associare l'educazione scientifica a una prospettiva di diritti umani, attraverso una pratica che favorisca l'empowerment del genere femminile, dal momento che le ricerche indicano una discrepante differenza nel numero di donne nelle aree delle scienze esatte rispetto agli uomini. In questo modo, il presente lavoro ha come obiettivo di indagine l'analisi delle concezioni che gli studenti della Scuola Superiore del Collegio Statale Benjamim Jos de Almeida hanno sulla presenza della donna nella scienza. La nostra lettura parte dalla comprensione dell'esistenza di un problema sociale - le asimmetrie di potere che coinvolgono le questioni di genere. Come obiettivo d'azione, si cercato di decostruire i concetti socialmente precostituiti attraverso un laboratorio pedagogico intitolato "Il posto della donna nella scienza". In questo modo, il processo di indagine ha evidenziato l'esistenza di discorsi di studenti maschi e femmine con tendenze maschiliste, rivelando che la visione stereotipata in relazione al genere si riflette in modo significativo nelle scelte professionali.

after heated and often bitter debates, SIEBENMANN'S opinion finally prevailed, i. e. , a contribution to cochlear lesions due to vibrations of the floor transmitted via bone conduction could not be demonstrated. For one thing, it was hard to see how appreciable amounts of energy could reach the ears in this manner, considering the attenuation that is bound to occur across each of the many joints along the pathway involved. In some older audiological surveys conducted in industry (e. g. , TEMKIN, 1933), groups of workmen were found who displayed signs of apical-turn lesions, i. e. , low-tone hearing losses for air and for bone. Such lesions could not be expected to results from exposure to air-borne sounds because of the low-frequency attenu ation of the middle ear. Although WITTMAACK'S explanation, which was frequently invoked in such reports, does no longer appear tenable, such apical-turn lesions could conceivably be caused by bone conduction components of high-intensity noise in the sense of BEKESY (1948). - As far as I am aware of, no newer studies have been conducted in this problem area, and the older experiments and/or surveys were done at times before signal parameters could be precisely controlled or measured. A detailed, critical review of the older studies on the potential contribution of bone-conducted energy to industrial hearing loss and its underlying pathology may be found in Werner (1940) who, incidently, favored SIEBENMANN'S point of VIew.
