Cloud Computing & Government

Cloud Computing & Government

Nova Science Publishers Inc
2011
sidottu
Cloud computing, an emerging form of computing where users have access to scalable, on-demand capabilities that are provided through Internet-based technologies, has the potential to provide information technology services more quickly and at a lower cost, but also to introduce information security risks. Cloud computing can both increase and decrease the security of information systems in federal agencies. Potential information security benefits include those related to the use of virtualisation, such as faster deployment of patches, and from economies of scale, such as potentially reduced costs for disaster recovery. Risks include dependence on the security practices and assurances of a vendor, dependency on the vendor, and concerns related to sharing of computing resources. This book provides an overview of the background, benefits, and risks of cloud computing and government usage.

Winner of the Tiptree Award and a Mythopoeic Award finalist, Cloud & Ashes is a slow whirlwind of language, a button box of words, a mythic fable that invites revisitation. Praise for Cloud & Ashes: "A rich poetic prose laden with fetching archaisms that's unlike anything else being written today. Brilliant and truly innovative fiction, not to be missed."--The Washington Times Greer Gilman is the author of Moonwise. A graduate of Wellesley and the University of Cambridge, she lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She likes to quip that she does everything James Joyce ever did, only backward and in high heels.

This bestselling book, originally published as a companion volume for public television’s Nature series, Cloud: The Wild Stallion of the Rockies is documentary filmmaker Ginger Kathrens’s personal retelling of her years following the wild horse she named Cloud. Beautifully designed, the book is elaborately photographed and divided into seventeen chapters that follow the life of a wild stallion, just one of hundreds of horses that have roamed wild in the Rocky Mountains for two hundred years. The book begins with the author and filmmaker witnessing the birth of a helpless white colt. Each subsequent chapter documents Cloud’s interaction with his mare Raven, his brother Diamond and other colts in the wild as well as his adventures encountering dangerous predators, older stallions and human trappers. Kathrens’s gripping observations of wild horses of the Arrowheads, their fights, struggles and alliances, give the reader much insight into the fascinating behaviour of these wild horses. Now published in paperback for the first time, this updated and fully redesigned volume coincides with the one year anniversary of the last sighting of Cloud.

Cloud Memoir: Selected Longer Poems 1987-2017

Cloud Memoir is a collection of Christopher Buckley's longer poems, his most wide-ranging and serious work built with a symphonic structure—theme, variation, recapitulation trilled with speculative formations, its this/but that, its faith-and-doubt. Rarely did/do the grey cells and the music of experience organize themselves into quick dramatic or pithy movements. These beautifully structured longer poems provide both the metaphysical and putative room to move.Tomorrow, no doubt, more of us will come from the Midwest for favorable exchange rates, the ruins and the partial restorations of romance; we'll believe without question and so run no risk from the church. But there's a new inquisition here, sectarian as the old—it takes us away from lunch under bright umbrellas and unsettles conversation over drinks along the Via Veneto; this red brigade would kneecap half the glove to get their way. So maybe it's as you say— after all there is no real evidence.

Claude Rains was "the greatest character actor of his age - possiblyof all ages," according to film historian Richard Schickel. Classic credits include The Invisible Man, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Now, Voyager, Casablanca, Notorious and Lawrence of Arabia. A stage star in his native England, Rains didn't make his screen debut until age 43. Throughout his career, he hid behind a movie persona that was suave and sophisticated, but off camera he was insecure and had trouble expressing feelings. Good-natured, still he had few friends and was married six times. A proud naturalized American, Victorian values led him to repudiate Tinsel Town - he was happiest puttering around the 18th-century Pennsylvania farm that was his heart and soul. As a teenager, Toby Cohen was thrilled to meet her screen idol backstage after his Broadway triumph. Based on her decades of research and exclusive interviews - with Rains' fifth wife, his sixth wife's children and nephews, his farm neighbors, the doctor who treated him in his final illness - Ms. Cohen has produced not just a biography, but an in-depth, compassionate analysis of a complicated man whose true self was "invisible" to all. With never-before-published candid photographs.

Claude is the story of the California Academy of Sciences' beloved albino alligator, from his birth in Louisiana to his present day life in his swamp at the Academy."Ultimately, Claude’s hopeful tale is a celebration of individuality and the joy in finding those who appreciate you for exactly who you are."--BooklistClaude is a celebrity alligator and the mascot for San Francisco's California Academy of Sciences. His story started almost 25 years ago in Louisiana, where he hatched out of his egg to discover he looked different from the other hatchlings. They were green and Claude was white. The other hatchings avoided him, and his color made him vulnerable to predators. So Claude went to a special zoo that cared for alligators where he lived in a pen by himself. Now he was safe--but alone. One day, scientists at the California Academy of Sciences heard about him and asked the zoo if he could come and live in the Academy's swamp. He made a 2,800 mile journey to his new home, where he had a surprise--he would share his swamp with Bonnie, an alligator who the scientists hoped would be a friend for Claude. Unfortunately, Bonnie didn't like Claude's differences either, so she was moved to another home. But then Claude was alone again--or was he? With Bonnie gone, Claude began to interact with the five enormous snapping turtles who shared his swamp. The turtles didn't mind at all that Claude was different! And neither do the millions of people who visit him every year. They know that Claude's differences are exactly what makes him special. Claude includes back matter with answers to frequently asked questions about the famous alligator, including information about albinism in animals.

When something goes wrong, it's not enough to just know there is a problem—you need to know where it is, what it is, and even how to fix it. Cloud Observability in Action shows you how to go beyond traditional monitoring and build observability systems that turn application telemetry into actionable insight. About the technology A well-designed observability system provides insight into bugs and performance issues in cloud-native applications. Often, observability is the difference between an error message and an explanation! You know exactly which service is affected, who's responsible for its repair, and even how it can be optimised in the future. Best of all, observability allows you to easily automate your error handling with machine users applying fixes without any human help.

Cloud. Data. Warehousing. The mythos conjured by three simple words has taken marketing to new levels of hyperbole. Cloud data warehousing, together with AI (of course) will change all business decision making and action taking. In addition to the expected cloud data warehouse model, three new delivery patterns have been spawned: data lakehouse, fabric, and mesh. However, as seen in Volume I of this series, the conceptual and logical architectures change only minimally as we move from on premises to the cloud. So, why these very different solutions? In Volume II, Dr. Barry Devlin-a founder of data warehousing-offers a framework of architectural design patterns (ADPs) to allow implementers to easily compare and contrast these different, proposed solutions. To evaluate their pros and cons according to a common model and in consistent terms. To choose an approach best suited to particular business needs and specific technical starting points. And looking to the behemoth of AI bearing down upon us, Barry proposes a set of conceptual models that allow possible answers to the foundational questions: In a world of burgeoning data and information, how do we really make decisions and should we entrust them to AI built upon cloud data warehousing?
