Gods are being used and abused by those who deny them, and science transcends ethics in terms of GMO humans, born modified and sent to fight wars they don't understand. Meanwhile, three hybrids struggle to find and protect their place in this war torn world, divided into the Western Unity, the Southern Empire, the Eastern Republic, and a somewhat peaceful no-man's-land. Shauna Lee is a Lizard Hybrid that can cause and heal disease but is scared of being hated and left alone. Oliver Harper is a Bird Hybrid that is so powerful he can raze cities to the ground. Dylan Vann is a Fish Hybrid that built a team of others like him to sabotage the three realms and stay away from society. They all fight for their desires, hopes, and dreams, which are corrupted through mysterious beings called Nightmares. In this battle for reality, a never-ending loop erases everyone but the gods who relive their mistakes over and over. This time will be different, though. The key to the loop is the key to change. The trio of heaven's curse and their sacrifices will perhaps stop the loop ... for a little while.

Everyone is familiar with the story of D-Day and the triumphal liberation of France by the Allies: a barbaric enemy was defeated by Allied ingenuity, courage and overwhelming military force, helped by dreadful German command errors and the terrible state of Wehrmacht forces in the West – but is this all true? The Wehrmacht was hugely experienced, equipped with some of the best weaponry of the war and was holding its own in Italy and Russia at the time. Berlin knew the invasion was coming and had had years to prepare for it. So how did the Germans view the impending invasion and campaign, did they feel ready, what forces did they have and could they have done better? Previous histories have focused on the ‘clash of the generals’; the battle between von Runstedt and Eisenhower, Montgomery and Rommel, but on the German side in particular this was a battle that would be fought by divisional and regimental commanders; the ‘German D-Day colonels’ upon whom the real business of trying to defeat the invasion fell – it was they and their men, outnumbered and outgunned, who somehow held Normandy for ten whole weeks against the greatest seaborne invasion force ever assembled, and occasionally even came close to defeating it. In the end they lost, and the majority of these unsung leaders ended up killed, wounded or captured in the fighting. As for their men, they ranged from élite Waffen-SS stormtroopers through to bewildered teenagers, old men, ‘recycled’ invalids and even anti-communist Eastern legions. Written from the ‘other side’ and told through the words of the veterans, this book is a revelation.

D-Day, the Allied invasion of Europe, began on the night of 5-6 June 1944. At 07.00 hours on the 6th, Britain's First Corps and XXX Corps came ashore on Sword and Gold beaches, to withering fire from the entrenched German forces. Within the initial and critical couple of hours some 30,000 soldiers, 300 guns and 700 armoured vehicles were landed, a magnificent achievement and, though the sands were soon choked with the mother of all logjams, exacerbated by a swelling tide, the British were firmly lodged; a bridgehead had been secured, albeit a rather flimsy one at this juncture. This is the story of the British soldiers’ experience of the beach landings on that fateful morning - the spearhead of Operation Overlord.

Few people would have envisaged that when the fledgling D&G Bus commenced operations in April 1998 with four vehicles that twenty-five years later it would become larger than its neighbour, First Potteries. Its journey has seen expansion through acquisitions of other local bus operators and an increase in tendered services following the collapse of other firms. Rationalisation by Arriva in Cannock, Macclesfield and Winsford provided more opportunities for further growth outside the existing area. Although becoming part of Centrebus in 2019, D&G Bus continues to be run as a separate entity with its two-tone red livery only recently being replaced with a red, blue and yellow scheme applied in the Centrebus style. Over the years the fleet has been diversified, initially with van-derived minibuses followed by Dennis Darts with various bodywork and Optare and Alexander Dennis vehicles, many purchased new. In this book Cliff Beeton’s fine selection of photographs illustrates the rich and varied story of D&G Bus over the last twenty-five years.

On the evening of Monday, 5th June 1944, the people of Britain went to bed with a sense of great events impending. They knew that any day now would come news of the battle that would forever alter the course of their lives, and the lives of their children and their grandchildren. The following day’s morning newspapers and early radio news bulletins were full of the fall of Rome to the Allies, which had been announced the day before. But then, at 9.33 am on that Tuesday, came the brief announcement: Allied naval forces, supported by strong air forces, had begun landing Allied armies on the coast of France.’ D-Day had finally dawned. _D-Day to VE Day_ tells the story of the last year of the Second World War in Europe, from the Normandy landings and on through the hard slog to that long-awaited day – 8th May 1945 – when Britain broke out the bunting, rolled out the barrel, and celebrated victory over Hitler. The air-raid sirens were silenced, the lights could be switched on again, and the boys would be coming home. In many homes, festivities were muted because the war in the Far East was still to be won, but for a few short hours at least, the nation could afford to let its hair down and dance in the streets. Using contemporary accounts – interviews, newspaper reports and official documents – of those final months, _D-Day to VE Day_ looks at life in Britain during those vital months, at the events that brought an end to war in Europe, and at the redrawing of national borders that would shape a new world order.

Foot soldiers, commandos, parachutists, naval seamen, bomber and fighter pilots - their varied personal experiences of the Second World War have been widely recounted, and the parts they played in the conflict are well known. But there are specialized wartime roles that have received very little attention, notably the gallant actions of the men of the Glider Pilot Regiment. That is why Robert Ashby's rare and vivid pilot's memoir is so valua-ble. In it he offers a fascinating insight not only into the major operations he took part in - including D-Day, Arnhem and the Rhine crossing - but into the exacting flying skills required to carry out perilous glider landings on enemy territory while under fire. His account of his hair-raising training, together with his pen-portraits of his comrades and officers, takes the reader inside the world of a citizen soldier'. The glider landings at Arnhem and the intense fighting that followed are the climax of his narrative, offering us a remarkable insight into one of the most controversial Allied disasters of the entire war.
