Writing about leadership is a challenge, especially now that dramatic social changes are occurring, because leadership, as a social phenomenon, is changing. Leadership is one of the social processes most discussed but perhaps less agreed upon by people. People talk about leadership and leaders and people can, sometimes not accurately, identify and classify their leaders; however, many questions about leadership continue to emerge in everyday conversations, media coverage, and leadership development events.

While this book focuses on evaluation of teachers, it is actually a book about fostering professional growth and improvement. In our writings, we provide support for teacher evaluation as a growth exercise, and show how creating a feedback rich culture in a school nurtures this process. The underlying theme is that evaluation data be utilized to drive professional development and growth, leading to reduction of teacher attrition and improved learning for students. At the heart of this feedback rich culture is the observation and evaluation process. For evaluation to be an exercise in professional growth, data must be collected and reviewed with the teacher so the administrator can provide support with transparency. This culture also places an urgency on the teacher evaluation process that has been historically absent. We include practical tips for creating this culture and maximizing opportunities for feedback, and examine traditional methods of evaluation and why these fell short in giving meaningful feedback to teachers. We will share innovative trends in teacher evaluation, and how these can be utilized to drive teacher growth, ultimately leading to improved student achievement. As our nation faces a teacher shortage and increasing teacher attrition rate, it is more vital than ever to retain and develop those currently practicing in the classroom. We highlight a research study by the author of teachers who have been evaluated consistently over a three-year period. This is more than a how to book, with a list of how to best implement the teacher evaluation process in your school. Instead, it is a how book, with best practices from experienced administrators and research from experts in the field such as Charlotte Danielson, Harvey Silver, and Robert Marzano, to guide educators to make informed decisions about implementing and improving their evaluation processes to meet their district's needs.

Gullible Travels: Memories of Family Life B.T. - Before Technology
Gullible Travels fondly remembers the late 1980's when teenagers had no quick technical escape from parental contact and occasionally even carried on conversations. These were often short, sometimes punctuated with shaking heads, Neanderthal grunts, rolling eyes, or a "Get Real" comment. We even shared eye contact, questions were actually answered (although often in fragmented monosyllables) but both sides usually managed to get their point across.. We actually remember delightful, creative communications.I never knew what to expect, what was coming next, or how to prepare. So I wrote down every adventure and misadventure when no one was looking, desperately trying to figure out this new world. For several years these stories were published in the North San Diego County newspapers, giving me the opportunity to embarrass my own kids (payback, you know), and sometimes their friends, most Wednesdays of their high school years. Also, to be fair, I recorded the many times when I couldn't figure out my own role, so added some creative adult adventures as well. As we look back now, we realize what an unenlightened journey we were all traveling. We survived quite well, however, because we didn't know any better. We were living in the Land Before Technology.

As educators, we recognize the silent genocide in America as it strikes at high-level stressors for young African American youth.Black Americans experience higher cardiovascular and metabolic disease, comparatively, than any other population on Earth according to the World Health Organization. This is not a coincidence, but a consequence of being Black in America. The human journey is not easy, and destiny can be difficult to embrace. For Black America, a silent genocide mounts within . . . This is not an issue back ordered from Amazon. This is about circumnavigating a difficult juncture in our nation's social history. We are in this place because we are not Europe, Asian, African and Oceania, South American, Australian, and Canadian, Central American or Mexican; we are all of them.
