The Oxford Handbook of Gabriel García Márquez
From the epic saga of the Buendía family in One Hundred Years of Solitude to the enduring passion of Love in the Time of Cholera to the exploration of tyranny in The Autumn of the Patriarch, Gabriel García Márquez has built a literary world that continues to captivate millions of readers across the world. His writings entrance modern audiences with their dreamlike yet trenchant insights into universal issues of the human condition such as love, revenge, old age, death, fate, power, and justice. A Nobel Laureate in 1982, he contributed to the global popularity of the Latin American Boom during the second half of the 20th century and had a profound impact on writers worldwide, including Toni Morrison, Salman Rushdie, and Haruki Murakami. The Oxford Handbook of Gabriel García Márquez brings together world experts on the Colombian writer to present a comprehensive English-language examination of his life, oeuvre, and legacy--the first such work since his death in 2014. Edited by Latin American literature authorities Gene H. Bell-Villada and Ignacio López-Calvo, the volume paints a rich and nuanced portrait of "Gabo." It incorporates ongoing critical approaches such as feminism, ecocriticism, Marxism, and ethnic studies, while elucidating key aspects of his work, such as his Caribbean-Colombian background; his use of magical realism, myth, and folklore; and his left-wing political views. Thirty-two wide-ranging chapters cover the bulk of the author's writings-both major and minor, early and late, long and short-as well as his involvement with film. They also discuss his unique prose style, highlighting how music shaped his literary art. The Handbook gives unprecedented attention to the global influence of García Márquez-on established canons, on the Global South, on imaginative writing in South Asia, China, Japan, and throughout Africa and the Arab world. This is the first book that places the Colombian writer within that wider context, celebrating his importance both as a Latin American author and as a global phenomenon.
Angelus ad virginem (Gabriel to Mary came)
for SATB (with divisions) unaccompanied, with optional tambourine This is a spirited arrangement of the popular fourteenth-century carol for mixed voices, with an optional part for tambourine in the final verse. The familiar melody weaves between the vocal parts, and the piece is characterized by medieval harmonies and a rocking thirds motif. An English singing translation is presented alongside the original Latin, allowing choirs to perform the carol in either language.

Gabriel (1839) is a romantic and adventurous play about a woman's struggle for freedom and love. Raised as a Renaissance prince, Gabriel gives up her entitlement and assumes a feminine identity to satisfy the demands of her male lover. A prescient protofeminist dramatic treatment of gender, the play makes a passionate plea for female equality in education and opportunity. Available for the first time in an English translation, the script is supplemented by an introductory essay that examines questions posed by the play with regard to conventional gender representations and how the protagonist contrasts with other cross-dressed heroines, such as Shakespeare's Rosalind in As You Like It. The introduction also recounts George Sand's struggle to get the play accepted for production on the Paris stage, and an appendix examines her 1850s revision, Julia, in which the protagonist's role is greatly diminished. Now available for theatrical production in English, Gabriel, together with the analytical material, also will be of value for women's studies and literary and dramatic courses.

The Social after Gabriel Tarde
Gabriel Tarde was a highly influential figure in 19th century French sociology: a prolific and evocative writer whose understanding of the social differed radically from that of his younger opponent Emile Durkheim. Whereas Durkheimian sociology went on to become the core of the social scientific canon throughout much of the 20th century, Tarde’s sociology fell out of the picture, and he was remembered mostly through a few footnotes in which Durkheim dismissed him as an individualist, a psychologist and a metaphysician. The social sciences and humanities are now being swept by a Tardean revival, a rediscovery and reappraisal of the work of this truly unique thinker, for whom ‘every thing is a society and every science a sociology’. Tarde is being brought forward as the misrecognised forerunner of a post-Durkheimian era. Reclaimed from a century of near-oblivion, his sociology has been linked to Foucaultian microphysics of power, to Deleuze's philosophy of difference, and most recently to the spectrum of approaches related to Actor Network Theory. In this connection, Bruno Latour hailed Tarde’s sociology as "an alternative beginning for an alternative social science". This volume asks what such an alternative social science might look like. This second edition has been expanded to include, alongside the original chapters, two key essays by Gabriel Tarde himself - Monadology and Sociology and The Two Elements of Sociology, as well as a significantly revised and extended introduction by the editor.
