Paul Millard didn't set out to save the world. A sternman aboard a lobster boat in Harpswell Maine, he unexpectedly inherited a fortune from a former employer. He quit his job and went on a party-filled spending spree until two events profoundly changed him and gave him a new purpose. After finding a woman brutally beaten by an unknown assailant at one of his soirees, Paul dedicated his life and the rest of his inheritance to building and funding a shelter for abused women and children. As the money dwindled, Paul met William Vrill IV. The genius descendant of a 'mad scientist', Vrill IV claimed he could create a working vortex to enable travel both ways through time. Paul took a gamble and financed the venture with a plan to journey into the past and seek more funding for the shelter. Without telling anyone, he made the jump, thoroughly unprepared for the subsequent events thrust upon him. Stuck in time, Paul's new mission: find a way home. Alive.

The art of Paul Havas (1940–2012) is one of natural beauty, formal control, and unusual colors. Havas settled in the Puget Sound region in 1965 and went on to create a body of work dominated by oil paintings and drawings of landscapes and cityscapes, attracting admiring critical attention and considerable acquisitions by important museums. This book draws on Havas's archive of writings, letters, and documentary photographs, as well as accounts and interviews with critics, curators, fellow artists, and friends to set the artist in a perspective of Pacific Northwest and American art history. The result is a lively tale of flyfishing, rural cabins, sophisticated city life, and doggedly consistent work habits in studios in Seattle and the Skagit Valley. Quiet yet friendly, like his appealing paintings, Paul Havas is revealed as thoughtful and witty, with serious ideas about art, culture, and his own position in contemporary art. Readers are sure to enjoy this lavishly illustrated volume with extensive color plates, useful contextual images, and historical documentary photographs.

In a new historical novel Free Love and Nickel Beer, we first meet our fearless protagonist as a young boy. He has just eaten a night crawler in his grandmother's garden, and the disgusting texture of the slimy worm is something he will never forget. And it gets even better from there...Author Dr. Paul R. VeHorn, PhD, presents a bittersweet coming-of-age tale replete with hilarious and somewhat embarrassing moments (that night crawler did not go down easy) as well as thoughtful ruminations about the nature of growing up and growing smart. The story begins with the boy's eye-opening move from the integrated North to the segregated South. As he becomes a young man and eventually an army recruit, he confronts the best and the worst America has to offer. His adventures in the army are followed by a number of sexual exploits in New York City and outrageous scenarios in Miami, Florida. It's the 1980s-business is hot, the booze is flowing, and the women are beautiful. Amid tales of dominatrices, cocaine cowboys, and surprise strippers, VeHorn weaves a tapestry of personal growth and extraordinary change-a wild ride through iconic latter-century eras in America.

Paul the Butterfly Duck is about allowing children to dream great dreams, even if we as adults can't see the dream as possible. We must remember that someone parented Homer Hickman Jr. (rocket boy) of West Virginia, Frida Kahlo, Neil Armstrong, and Einstein. These adults may have thought their children were crazy or eccentric, but without dreams and the belief that things can be different than what we know today, progress would never occur.

Edward George Earl Bulwer-Lytton, 1st Baron Lytton (1803-1873) was an English novelist, playwright, and politician. Bulwer-Lytton's literary career began in 1820, with the publication of his first book of poems. He wrote in a variety of genres, including historical fiction, mystery, romance, the occult, and science fiction. In 1828 he attracted general attention with Pelham, a humourous, intimate study of the dandyism of the age which kept gossips busy in identifying characters with public figures of the time. By 1833, he had reached the height of his popularity with Godolphin, followed by The Pilgrims of the Rhine (1834), The Last Days of Pompeii (1834), Rienzi: The Last of the Roman Tribunes (1835), and Harold: The Last of the Saxon Kings (1848).

Paul's Gospel of Divine Self-Sacrifice

Paul's Gospel of Divine Self-Sacrifice

Paul Moser

Cambridge University Press

pokkari
In this book, Paul Moser explains how self-sacrificial righteousness of a reparative kind is at the heart of Paul's gospel of God. He also shows how divine self-sacrifice authenticates that gospel via human reciprocity toward God in reconciliation. A basis for this reciprocity lies in a teaching of ancient Judaism that humans are to reciprocate toward God for the sake of an interpersonal relationship that is righteous and reconciled through voluntary self-sacrifice to God. Moser demonstrates that Paul's gospel calls for faith, including trust, in God as reciprocity in human self-sacrifice toward God. Although widely neglected by interpreters, this theme brings moral and evidential depth to Paul's good news of reparative redemption from God. Moser's study thus enables a new understanding of some of the controversial matters regarding Paul's message in a way that highlights the coherence and profundity of his message.
