Choosing Joy: The Pathway to a Life of Passion and Purpose
"A joyful heart is like good medicine." Proverbs 17:22More than ever before in our lifetime, as we face a global pandemic as well as personal challenges and daily setbacks, we need, with intentionality, to choose joy Over 25 years ago, I embarked upon a research project focusing on one primary topic. My probing question was: "What are the practical strategies a person could implement that would enbable him or her to experience an authentically joyful life? The answer to this question is contained within the pages of my book, "Choosing Joy: The pathway to a Life of Passion and Purpose". Sharing scriptural principles, real life illustrations and specific daily strategies, Choosing Joy is a textbook which will enable you to live an authentic life of joy, passion and purpose.

Action, Outlaw Vendetta, "KILL RONNIE CAMPBELL" when reading the last two books you can see why some of the outlaws family and friends want Ronnie dead. Book #1 THE PONY EXPRESS RIDER starts with Ronnie getting told to get out of bed and chase the two work horses after he didn't fasten the top rail of the corral and they got out with Ronnie having to give chase for miles to recapture them. On the return trip he hears gunfire and can see smoke coming from the cabin that his father and he live in along the stream where they were panning for gold. With his father killed by the Paiute Indians, Ronnie Campbell was alone in Eastern Nevada, he had a three day ride to get supplies from the nearest store. Ruby Gold is a time just after the Pony Express had quit operating, Ronnie had a developing ranch in the Ruby Mountains in Eastern Nevada along with an active gold mine. The Paiute Indians play a major part in all three books, starting with killing Ronnie's father. Later in the books they become a living part of a working ranch and also help with dealing with some of the outlaws that show up to steal cattle or even do harm to Ronnie and his close knit family. US Deputy Marshal McPherson is a major player in the second book and his presence is felt in book three. Larry likes to shoot people and is a fair hand with the women, most of the women seem to like him a lot. If you the reader like action and as some have put it, these books are the true reflection of the human condition at that time period. The women are decision makers and know what they want, they love with all of their being and will pull the trigger and kill an outlaw in a heartbeat. They all can ride a horse and pack a gun and in many situations they rule the moment by using all of the weapons they possess. This third book is KILL RONNIE CAMPBELL. I feel it has grown along with Ronnie Campbell and Abby, the scope of what they are doing in now a multi state operation. The Ranch and Gold Mine in Nevada are doing fine, Ronnie and Abby find an opportunity to develop a horse racing track in Sacramento and also were able to purchase a large ranch bordering on the Rancho he is already part owner with Louis and his wife Juanita. The three books in this series are all dealing with strong family relations along with trouble inside of the family to keep things interesting. Many outlaws find their way into Ronnie's path as he works at developing his Nevada Ranch and Gold Mine, gun fights, removing many outlaws along the way as he lives his life. Ronnie and US Marshal McPherson get involved with killers of all kinds, some are crime king pins other are just wanting to steal what others have earned. All outlaws seem to find Ronnie Campbell hard to kill and add US Marshal McPherson to the mix things stay very active. TO ENJOY THIS BOOK TO THE FULLEST YOU SHOULD PURCHASE THE FIRST TWO, THIS WAY YOU GET TO ENJOY THE FULL BACKGROUND LEADING UP TO THIS FINAL BOOK OF THE SERIES. ENJOY THE RIDE.

If you have a loved one on a breathing machine, this book is a must-read. Read this book if you are a non-medical person and want to know about mechanical ventilators, patients on breathing machines, or respirators. It makes sense of a critical situation in a medical environment that is "foreign" to nearly everyone. This book is written by a respiratory therapist to help the average person understand more about ventilators and the ICU environment. Mechanical ventilators are life support breathing machines or respirators that are used in ICU to keep people breathing and help them stay alive while their life threatening problems are being reversed. When loved ones are on ventilators it is a crisis that few understand. The first chapter is a quick reference with FAQs addressing most of the questions that might come to mind. These questions are organized to refer to the remainder of the book which explains in lay person's terms the details and complexities of ventilator patients from the initial respiratory failure, to placement on a ventilator, ventilator patient management, weaning off the ventilator and how ventilators are used for specific diseases that result in the need for life support. This book makes plain language out of normal respiratory anatomy and physiology, why people stop breathing, how COVID-19 ventilator patients are being treated, and discusses practical issues of life, death, and brain death. Simple but informative diagrams and pictures make clear medical information passed on to family members or significant others by doctors, nurses and respiratory therapists. There are parts of the book that get complicated because this is a complex situation. If the reader has trouble with some of the explanations just skip on over it as each chapter is a new part of this process and may provide understanding to previous topics. This book is recommended for everyone who has the circumstance of having someone they know on a breathing machine. This is not a medical text, but could easily have value to respiratory therapists, nurses and doctors in the ICU.

From the wheat fields of Kansas to surfing the immense waves on the shores of Planet Nuptia, the author takes readers on a journey which may be referred to as the "future meets the past." In "Earth Boy" a child is held captive on Europa and in the "Longevity Gene" a geneticist searches for a gene complex that may hold the key to immortality while stock car drivers race around a track in Alabama and discover something totally unexpected. As the book title suggests, searching for and struggling to acquire independence is the underlying theme of the book's short stories which concludes with poems about seagulls, crows, ship wrecks, dangerous sharks and young love that makes today seem like yesterday.
Mediated Discourse as Social Interaction
Mediated Discourse as Social Interaction makes an explicit link between media studies and social interactionalist discursive research where previously the two fields of study have been treated as separate disciplines. This text presents an integrated theory illustrated by ample concrete examples, bringing together the latest research in these two fields. It offers a critique to the sender-receiver model implicit in media studies, and argues for an analysis of media discourse as social interaction, on the one hand among journalists and newsmakers as a community of practice, and among readers and viewers as a spectating community of practice on the other. The book also argues for a coherent and interdiscursive methodology for the ethnographic study of the role of the news media in the social construction of identity and is based on a considerable body of ethnographic and textual analysis of both print and television news media. The theory of mediated discourse presented in this volume will be of great interest to advanced undergraduates and postgraduates studying media studies, sociology of language, discourse analysis, interactional sociolinguistics, ethnography of communication and applied linguistics. It will also be welcomed by scholars and professionals involved in research in these areas.

Mindhunter crossed with American Gothic. This chilling story has the ghostly unease of a nightmare.--Michael Cannell, author of Incendiary: The Psychiatrist, the Mad Bomber and the Invention of Criminal Profiling The pulse-pounding account of the first time in history that the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit created a psychological profile to catch a serial killer On June 25, 1973, a seven-year-old girl went missing from the Montana campground where her family was vacationing. Somebody had slit open the back of their tent and snatched her from under their noses. None of them saw or heard anything. Susie Jaeger had vanished into thin air, plucked by a shadow. The largest manhunt in Montana's history ensued, led by the FBI. As days stretched into weeks, and weeks into months, Special Agent Pete Dunbar attended a workshop at FBI Headquarters in Quantico, Virgina, led by two agents who had hatched a radical new idea: What if criminals left a psychological trail that would lead us to them? Patrick Mullany, a trained psychologist, and Howard Teten, a veteran criminologist, had created the Behavioral Science Unit to explore this new voodoo they called "criminal profiling." At Dunbar's request, Mullany and Teten built the FBI's first profile of an unknown subject: the UnSub who had snatched Susie Jaeger and, a few months later, a nineteen-year-old waitress. When a suspect was finally arrested, the profile fit him to a T...

In this thrilling new series from Edgar(R)-nominated author Ron Corbett, the most dangerous predator in the Maine wilderness walks on two feet--and it is Danny Barrett's job to bring him down. Something is not right in the North Maine Woods. A small family-run lumber company should not have more than two hundred million unaccountable dollars on their books. Money like that comes from moving something other than wood across the border. The first agent the FBI sent undercover was their best man--sure to get the answers that were needed. He was dead within a month. Now, Danny Barrett is taking his place. Before he was a cop, Danny grew up in the woods of Northern Michigan. He is the only chance the feds have of getting answers, but how many more will have to die first?

Danny Barrett is caught between a family of criminals and the psychopath who is tracking them in the latest novel of the series the New York Times calls, "Dynamite." The FBI has a hundred undercover agents who can work in the city, but Danny Barrett is the one they call when they need someone to investigate crimes in the wilderness. This case is a particularly difficult one. For more than a century the Danby family have ruled as kings in their corner of the Pacific Northwest. The Feds were mostly willing to look the other way while the family smuggled everything from liquor to cigarettes across the border, but lately things have taken a darker turn. A recent bank robbery in Seattle looks like it may have been committed by the Danbys, but there's no way the FBI can get any locals to turn against them. Only Danny Barrett has what it takes to get inside the organization and shut them down. But before Danny can do that he's going to have to contend with Henry Carter, a former in-law and current psychopath. The Danbys thought they left Henry for dead in the deepest part of the woods, but he's coming back. He'll go to hell to get his revenge, and he's willing to take the whole family with him.

To Benny, brown is more than just a colour. Brown is his Gram’s coffee and his Gramp’s morning kiss. Brown is the wooden spoon he uses for mixing and baking. It’s the ground that grows the tomatoes he loves and it’s the log he plays on. Brown is the fuzzy blanket he takes to his room at the end of the day. Brown is him and brown is love. In tender, lyrical text and warmly exuberant illustrations, What Does Brown Mean to You? celebrates all the brilliant and beautiful shades of brown, encouraging children to explore and see the beauty of their skin reflected in their families, communities, and the world around them.
