Advanced Exercise Physiology: Essential Concepts and Applications builds upon foundational topics and looks further into key physiological components to help advanced students gain a deeper level of understanding. Authors Jonathan K. Ehrman, Dennis J. Kerrigan, and Steven J. Keteyian address a wide range of complex topics with evidence-based information and a focused, targeted style. The first five chapters offer a detailed examination of the various body systems. The next two chapters focus on exercise testing and training principles, as well as training adaptations as they relate to aerobic power, anaerobic power, range of motion, and resistance training of healthy individuals and competitive athletes. The remaining chapters focus on a variety of topics, including athletic performance, body composition and weight management, and environmental influences of exercise physiology. The final two chapters bring a unique perspective to the book with a review of the relationship between exercise physiology and public health and a look at recent and emerging topics in the field, including genomics and pharmacology. Enhancing the content are learning aids, more than 140 images and illustrations, and practical examples from among clinical patients, healthy individuals, and competitive athletes. Key terms and their definitions appear at the end of each chapter; these help students understand key concepts and serve as a useful reference for practitioners. The appendixes contain information related to topics such as efficiency and energy expenditure, metabolic equivalent (MET) values of common activities, and the professionalization of exercise physiology. For instructors, Advanced Exercise Physiology also includes a test package and an image bank to assist wtih classroom lecture preparations. The ancillaries, in-text learning components, and comprehensive content combine to create an ideal text to be used in advanced courses in exercise physiology.

And specialized chapters provide details on Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for victimized children and youth, treatment possibilities for bullies and an empirically-supported program for preventing further lethal events. The War of 1812 is perhaps the United States' least known conflict. Other than Andrew Jackson's 1815 victory at New Orleans and Francis Scott Key's poem "The Star-Spangled Banner" written in 1814 during the British attack on Baltimore, most Americans know little about the country's second major war. This book will give you a full insight into the second largest military conflict that took place on the soil of North America. Contents: Defending a New Nation 1783-1811 The Campaign of 1812 The Canadian Theater, 1813 The Creek War of 1813–1814 The Chesapeake Campaign, 1813–1814 The Canadian Theater, 1814 The Gulf Theater, 1813-1815

Hesperia Supplement, Volume 55 Since its excavation in the 1970s, the East Field at Isthmia has been dismissed as a jumble of poorly built houses, marginal to the sanctuary proper. Except for a few small-scale excavations and a handful of studies, the site and its excavation data have sat largely neglected ever since. Now, following a reanalysis of this legacy data and a survey of the standing remains, this volume presents the first comprehensive study of the East Field’s architectural and spatial development. Using an innovative method to extract stratigraphic data from outmoded and incomplete sources, the authors disentangle the maze of walls into identifiable structures, setting these within a phased narrative connected to the site’s broader history. The results overturn decades of assumptions, revealing substantial structures central to the sanctuary, some possibly corresponding to buildings otherwise known only from inscriptions: the Stoa of Regulus, the Kataluseis of P. Licinius Priscus Iuventianus, and the final site of the Palaimon sanctuary. Additional structures document activity between the 3rd and the 5th centuries CE unattested elsewhere on the site. The East Field at Isthmia offers a radically new understanding of this neglected area of Isthmia and its relation to the sanctuary; along the way, it both encourages archaeologists to revisit long-abandoned excavation data and provides a road map for doing so.

""David""--a name mentioned nearly a thousand times in the Bible Shepherd boy, musician, singer-songwriter, prophet and king (and part-time priest ), husband and father, and a God-gifted genius at close, hand-to-hand combat. An extraordinary man. This close reading of the life of David--all the way from where teenage David is first introduced (1 Sam 16) to his death (1 Kgs 2)--gives an opportunity to see the wonderful, the awful, and the (shockingly) ugly elements of his life. There are some difficult texts and difficult lessons. Significant matters arise, such as the nature of prayer, the importance of forgiveness, abuse, the nature of leadership, death and enemies, understanding patriarchy in biblical texts, spiritual gifts, and evil spirits. Readers will discover that these texts speak loudly and clearly to the issues of our day. Beginning with the Former Prophets (1 and 2 Samuel, 1 Kings) for the narrator's point of view, this book also examines the Psalms to give an understanding of what was happening for David on the inside. Undertaken as a devotional exercise, the aim of these studies is always that of seeing Jesus more clearly and living more securely in the shadow of his wing.

The Origin of the Wesleyan Theological Vision for Christian Globalization and the Pursuit of Pentecost in Early Pietist Revivalism, Including a Translation of The Pentecost Addresses of Johann Adam Steinmetz (1689-1762)
This book demonstrates that the Pietist revival on the continent of Europe in the 18th century was an important source of the Wesley brothers' understanding of a two-staged order of salvation. This book also shows that the Protestant vision of a globalized Christianity can be traced back to the voices of praying children in Eastern Euopre in a spontaneous children's revival set amid religious warfare entailing massive loss of life and propety. Johann Adam Steinmetz was the preacher of that revival who focused on being "sealed with the Spirit." This book contains a translation of his Pentecost Addresses which influenced Methodism through Christian David.
