When their children are kidnapped from the family castle, Adam and Anne Delaney race back to England from their vacation in France. Assuming their children will be held for ransom, the couple are ill-prepared for the truth about who has kidnapped their boys. Secrets of both of their families will be revealed as a result. When the great wizard Merlin mysteriously reappears in their lives, Adam and Anne hope he can help with the investigation. But Merlin is more concerned with sharing yet another story about one of their ancestors, this time Ogier the Dane, a great knight of Charlemagne's court, a pagan among Christians who went on a fabulous journey to the East. Ogier's story will enlighten Adam and Anne about an ancient evil soon to be unleashed on the world-and they may be the only ones capable of defeating it. Ogier's Prayer, the third volume of Tyler R. Tichelaar's Children of Arthur series, will take readers on a magic carpet ride reminiscent of the Arabian Nights as Tichelaar weaves stories within stories in a manner to rival Scheherazade herself.

"Haunted Marquette deftly weaves history, urban legends, and unexplained phenomena into a kaleidoscope of ghostly hauntings that reveal a side of the Queen City most of us have never experienced but perhaps always feared was there." - Sonny Longtine, author of Murder in Michigan's Upper Peninsula Over Forty Tales of Ghosts and Paranormal Experiences Founded as a harbor town to ship iron ore from the nearby mines, Marquette became known as the Queen City of the North for its thriving industries, beautiful buildings, and being the largest city in Upper Michigan. But is Marquette also the Queen of Lake Superior's Haunted Cities? Seventh-generation Marquette resident Tyler Tichelaar has spent years collecting tales of the many ghosts who haunt the cemeteries, churches, businesses, hotels, and homes of Marquette. Now, separating fact from fiction, he delves into the historical record to determine which stories may be true and which are just the fancies of frightened minds. Hear the chilling tales of: -The wicked nun who killed an orphan boy -The librarian mourning her sailor lover -The drowned sailors who climb out of Lake Superior at night -The glowing lantern of the decapitated train conductor -The mailman who gave his life for the U.S. mail -More ghostly ladies in floor-length white gowns than any haunted city should have Haunted Marquette opens up a fourth dimension view of the Queen City's past and reveals that much of it is still present.

"Roosevelt lies and curses in the most disgusting way; he gets drunk, too, and that not infrequently, and all of his intimates know about it."- George Newett, The Iron Ore newspaper, October 12, 1912When the above words appeared in print, they resulted in one of the most famous libel trials of the early twentieth century. Former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt was on campaign on the Progressive "Bull Moose" ticket, but his break from the Republican party had caused him to have many detractors. When a small town Michigan newspaper editor accused him of being drunk while campaigning, Roosevelt decided to make an example of him.Matthew Newman, reporter for the New York Empire Sentinel, should have seen his assignment to cover the trial as the opportunity of a lifetime. But Matthew is also a native of Marquette, Michigan, where the trial will be held. Matthew left Marquette long ago and does not relish returning to deal with a distant sister and her drunkard husband, or to attend his niece's wedding, set for the weekend after the trial begins. The situation becomes more difficult for Matthew when he learns that Roosevelt is staying at the home of George Shiras. Once close friends, Matthew and George have not seen each other in years after a serious blow caused Matthew to leave Marquette. Now he is uncertain how to deal with George's overtures of friendship. As one witness after another, from navy admirals and secretaries to bodyguards and butlers, are called forth to testify in Roosevelt's defense, Matthew must call forth his past and come to terms with it.Novelist Tyler Tichelaar, a native of Marquette, Michigan, goes where biographers have never gone in detailing not only the significance of the often-ignored Roosevelt libel trial, but also how Roosevelt's presence stirred Upper Michigan into a frenzy of excitement. This is the tale of a big man in a small town, how that small town responded, and how we all influence one another, often in unseen ways.

A 2021 U.P. Notable BookToday, Charles Kawbawgam, "The Last Chief of the Chippewa," is a legend in Michigan's Upper Peninsula for allegedly living to age 103 (1799-1902). But few know anything else about him beyond his being buried in Marquette's beautiful Presque Isle Park. Kawbawgam witnessed a period of intense industrial growth and unheralded change for Native Americans. Growing up at Sault Sainte Marie when the area was still claimed by Great Britain, his first memory was of armed Americans coercing his people into ceding their lands to the United States Government. As the son, nephew, stepson, and later son-in-law of Ojibwa chiefs, and in time a chief in his own right, Kawbawgam learned early that he would have to walk a fine line to keep the peace for his people. After temporarily migrating to Canada with other Ojibwa in disagreement with the American government, he returned to the Sault where he was recruited to help found the town of Marquette Kawbawgam would preside over an Ojibwa and metis community that ensured the white community's survival during Marquette's early years, only to be pushed to the community's margins as the city grew and prospered. Yet the admiration and affection he won from whites as well as the Ojibwa ensured peace and a legacy that lives on today. Kawbawgam is a story of cross-cultural friendships, survival amid upheaval, and the importance of community and heritage.

Many British and French Gothic novels are being rediscovered today that are part of the second Gothic Golden Age, an age too often overlooked, but integral to the evolution of the Gothic. While nationalism influences these works, they are a melting pot of ideas and styles from both nations. Consequently, the only way to truly understand the Gothic tradition in British literature is to understand that tradition in French literature and vice-versa.In Vampire Grooms and Spectre Brides, Tyler R. Tichelaar, PhD, argues there is, in fact, no such thing as French Gothic or British Gothic literature, or even British or French literature during the nineteenth century. Works like The Count of Monte Cristo, Dracula, A Tale of Two Cities, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame can be better understood when placed within the context of the blended tradition since novels in both languages and in translation continually crisscrossed the English Channel, only to return in new iterations throughout the century. From John Polidori to Paul F val and Bram Stoker, and from Mrs. Radcliffe to Eug ne Sue and Charles Dickens, the Gothic produced some of the strangest, most fascinating, and most significant novels ever written. In bringing together these works, some only recently translated or not fully translated at all, Vampire Grooms and Spectre Brides provides a missing context that will help redefine Gothic literature for future generations and serve as a blood transfusion to some works long thought dead.British and French authors discussed include: Sade * Radcliffe * Lewis * Scott * Polidori * B rard * Nodier * Hugo * Ainsworth * Quinet * Sue * F val * Reynolds * Dumas * Bulwer-Lytton * Dickens * Nizet * Verne * Stoker * and many more
