One year into the Sukra Academy of Warrior Elite, Kebaatre misses home and has trouble bonding with his clan. At the request of their headmaster, the Adder Clan is sent into Kebaatre's home realm to deliver an important message to the king of the Sun People. Almost immediately upon their arrival, things go horribly wrong, and the Adder Clan is brought to the king's court as prisoners instead of messengers. The court and royal family are in disarray. The king sees enemies everywhere, and to Kebaatre's shock, looks to him for help. As much as he has missed the sun and sand of home, Kebaatre is now torn between his past and his future. Deciding where his loyalties lie is anything but simple, and whichever path he chooses will leave him with blood on his hands.

A Pocket-size Guide to Effective Management from a Former Tier I Amazonian: Zeroing in on Servant Leadership inside of Warehouse Distribution Centers
Throughout my time a Tier I Amazonian, I was exposed to various management styles. Some styles were influential while others were unacceptable. There is no such thing as a perfect manager. Managers are expected to lead via Amazon's fourteen leadership principles. It must go beyond following those fourteen leadership principles though. The purpose of this book is to give the reader an inside look at managing a team of associates from the perspective of the associate. Most books ever written about management are written by managers or a person with a degree in management. Imagine grasping key principles about effectively managing a team from the individuals you are managing. It is kind of unique; during my time as a Tier 1 associate, I have been able to pick up on characteristics that each and every manager should strive to possess (and some they should dispose of). In a nutshell, it all ties back to a concept known as servant leadership. Read and "dive deep" with me as I explore nine guiding principles that center around effective management techniques in a warehouse or distribution setting.
At the Boundaries of Homeownership

In the United States, homeownership is synonymous with economic security and middle-class status. It has played this role in American life for almost a century, and as a result, homeownership's centrality to Americans' economic lives has come to seem natural and inevitable. But this state of affairs did not develop spontaneously or inexorably. On the contrary, it was the product of federal government policies, established during the 1930s and developed over the course of the twentieth century. At the Boundaries of Homeownership traces how the government's role in this became submerged from public view and how several groups who were locked out of homeownership came to recognize and reveal the role of the government. Through organizing and activism, these boundary groups transformed laws and private practices governing determinations of credit-worthiness. This book describes the important policy consequences of their achievements and the implications for how we understand American statebuilding.

The Renaissance Utopia

The Renaissance Utopia

A study of European utopias in context from the early years of Henry VIII’s reign to the Restoration, this book is the first comprehensive attempt since J. C. Davis’ Utopia and the Ideal Society (1981) to understand the societies projected by utopian literature from Thomas More’s Utopia (1516) to the political idealism and millenarianism of the mid-seventeenth century. Where Davis concentrated on understanding utopias historically, Renaissance Utopia also seeks to make sense of utopia as a literary form, offering both a new typology of utopia and a new history of European humanist utopianism. This book examines how the utopia was transformed from an intellectual exercise in philosophical interrogation to a serious means of imagining practical social reform. In doing so it argues that the relationship between Renaissance utopia and Renaissance dialogue is crucial; the utopian mode of discourse continued to make use of aspects of dialogue even when the dialogue form itself was in decline. Exploring the ways in which utopian texts assimilated dialogue, Renaissance Utopia complements recent work by historians and literary scholars on early modern communities by providing a thorough investigation of the issues informing a way of modelling a very particular community and literary mode - the utopia.
Epic, Epitome, and the Early Modern Historical Imagination
In early modern England, epitomes-texts promising to pare down, abridge, or sum up the essence of their authoritative sources-provided readers with key historical knowledge without the bulk, expense, or time commitment demanded by greater volumes. Epic poets in turn addressed the habits of reading and thinking that, for better and for worse, were popularized by the publication of predigested works. Analyzing popular texts such as chronicle summaries, abridgements of sacred epic, and abstracts of civil war debate, Chloe Wheatley charts the efflorescence of a lively early modern epitome culture, and demonstrates its impact upon Edmund Spenser's The Faerie Queene, Abraham Cowley's Davideis, and John Milton's Paradise Lost. Clearly and elegantly written, this new study presents fresh insight into how poets adapted an important epic convention-the representation of the hero's confrontation with summaries of past and future-to reflect contemporary trends in early modern history writing.

This book brings together Foucault's writings on crime and delinquency, on the one hand, and sexuality, on the other, to argue for an anti-carceral feminist Foucauldian approach to sex crimes. The author expands on Foucault’s writings through intersectional explorations of the critical race, decolonial, critical disability, queer and critical trans studies literatures on the prison that have emerged since the publication of Discipline and Punish and The History of Sexuality.Drawing on Foucault’s insights from his genealogical period, the book argues that those labeled as sex offenders will today be constructed to re-offend twice over, once in virtue of the delinquency with which they are inculcated through criminological discourses and in the criminal punishment system, and second in virtue of the manners in which their sexual offense is taken up as an identity through psychological and sexological discourses. The book includes a discussion of non-retributive responses to crime, including preventative, redistributive, restorative, and transformative justice. It concludes with two appendixes: the original 19th-century medico-legal report on Charles Jouy and its English translation by the author.Foucault, Feminism, and Sex Crimes will be of interest to feminist philosophers, Continental philosophers, Women’s and Gender Studies scholars, social and political theorists, as well as social scientists and social justice activists.
