`A welcome and helpful addition to the shelves of tutors and students working on masters programmes. It will be most beneficial supporting students on programmes where there is a substantial research training component. It offers important exemplars of using computer software in qualitative analysis' - Educational Review `This book is aimed at Master's students who are engaging in educational research for the first time. [It] provides teacher-researchers with the additional information they need so they can go on to read further and more in depth, having more confidence in the accessibility of such studies. I found it does this well, and is an ideal point of reference for those who are just embarking on a Master's degree. A useful glossary is provided, giving detailed but 'readable' explanations of key terms and phrases' - Primary Practice Doing Educational Research offers a hands-on guide for students engaged in educational research. It provides a comprehensive and accessible introduction to the key qualitative and quantitative methods necessary for those commencing research for the first time. Through a detailed yet concise explanation, the reader is shown how these methods work and how their outcomes may be interpreted. Providing all the essentials for the first-time researcher, the book includes: · a variety of examples and case studies to illustrate how the methods and techniques can be used in `real-life' contexts · practical guidance on time management planning research projects and writing reports. · a broad coverage - including qualitative and quantitative methodologies, data analysis using computer software, ethical issues and the writing-up and presentation of data. This engaging book has been written by a team of leading researchers with over sixty years of cumulative experience. It has a student-friendly structure which will make it accessible and popular with undergraduates and postgraduates. It will be an invaluable resource for both students and researchers, helping them to undertake effective research in education.

`A highly recommendable and powerful work...I have found this book to be both a revelatory mirror on past events and an inviting window to future prospects. I am certain that it will be of equal or greater value to all those involved and interested in the tangled complexities, and inherent rewards, of educational leadership, particularly within international or cross-cultural contexts' - Daniel H. Jarvis, International Review of Education `Clive Dimmock and Allan Walker's books is a valuable addition to the overcrowded literature on leadership. This is a useful and important book because citizenship, globalization and the tensions with nationality should be the concern of all who lead any school; even monofaith, monoethic and monolingual schools' - Tim Brighouse, TES Friday 'The authors offer a rigorous and systematic analysis based on careful definition, illustration and discussion which demonstrates the importance of understanding culture, leadership and their interaction in different contexts: in doing so they provide a powerful antidote to the simplistic export of ideas and lay foundations for a more sophisticated conceptual framework for the study of educational leadership' - John West-Burnham, International Leadership Centre, University of Hull This key text in educational leadership focuses on the significance of the context and culture of schools. The book addresses the growing recognition of cultural differences between societies and the resultant differences in schooling. It also deals with vital issues relating to multicultural education and the leadership of multicultural schools. Drawing on their first-hand experience, the authors explore the differences evident in classroom teaching and learning, as well as organizational, leadership and management aspects of schools. They show how such differences can make over-reliance on Anglo-American approaches misleading, ineffective and restrictive. Key features of the book include: - a methodology to support the emerging field of international and comparative educational leadership and management - in-depth comparative analysis of Anglo-American and Asian schooling and educational management - the leadership of multi-cultural schools This book is essential reading for professionals and students of educational leadership and management, as well as administrators.

The Indian subcontinent, home to one-sixth of the global population, is a vastly diverse, naturally vibrant, and culturally rich region of the world. Award-winning author-photographer Clive Limpkin travelled extensively thoughout India to capture this vast and populous nation, and the photographic legacy of his journeys is impressively far-reaching, both in geographic scope and subject. His thematic approach to photography is complemented by thoughtful essays on alphabetically arranged subjects. From "Army" and "Astrology" to "Yoga" and "Zebu", India Exposed: The Subcontinent A-Z brilliantly illuminates the culture, natural life, and regional variety of India. Limpkin's photographs and essays invite his reader to learn about the issues and trends facing India today. Limpkin's photo of a woman bent over, sweeping her front yard while her husband looks on, addresses the issue of gender roles, while the haunting faces of India's untouchables remind readers of the legacy of the caste system. As diverse as the country it portrays India Exposed is a comprehensive photograph tribute to the second-largest nation in the world. India Exposed is more than just a photography book. Through poignant essays full of exciting personal anecdotes, the author takes readers along on his numerous Indian adventures. This photograph voyage exposes India, home to overcrowded cities and luscious wildlife reserves, in the 21st century.
Building Beautiful

Building Beautiful

Clive Aslet; John Simpson

RIZZOLI INTERNATIONAL PUBLICATIONS

Inviting, perfect in proportion, exquisite in detail such are a few of the ways to describe homes designed by John Simpson. Well known for his work with the British royal family at Buckingham and Kensington palaces and for his buildings at Eton College in the U.K. and at the University of Notre Dame in the U.S., he is perhaps most brilliant at the level of the house and home. Building Beautiful is an invitation to enter the work of this master designer, as one might visit with a treasured friend. From a dream made real within a Venetian palazzo a former seventeenth-century near-ruin, brought back to glorious, fancifully detailed life to an English countryside cottage with a thatched roof, the featured homes are expressions of Simpson s unerring eye and extraordinary sense of beauty. Here we find drama in contrasts of scale and the seductive effects of light, where a cozy reading nook opens to an expansive living room with a double-height ceiling that nevertheless feels not overly large but rather just right. This is Simpson s subtle art a mastery of scale, balance, and a pervading sense of elegance.
A Bird-Finding Guide to Ontario

A Bird-Finding Guide to Ontario

Clive E. Goodwin

University of Toronto Press
1995
pokkari
A Bird-Finding Guide to Ontario has been the indispensable guide for Ontario birders since it was first published in 1982. With this completely revised and greatly expanded edition the reader will now have, in one volume, complete, up-to-date information on where and when to look for birds, and detailed information on the distribution of all species recorded in the province. Ontario offers a host of opportunities for the bird watcher. More than 450 species of birds have been found in the province, and at least 285 have nested. From southern deciduous woodlands to Arctic coastline, this guide presents precise directions on where birds are found, emphasizing the most popular and productive localities, but also citing numerous little-known locales that will delight aficionado and novice alike. County maps show the locations of the areas covered. Additional, more detailed maps supplement the text. Goodwin supplies valuable information on the province as a whole and the habitats contained within. He lists common breeding birds one can expect to encounter, and describes seasonal weather conditions and migration patterns and the most productive kinds of birding to be found. The book concludes with special information for visitors to the province. An extensive index provides easy access to the guide.
A Journey to Waco

A Journey to Waco

Clive Doyle

Rowman Littlefield Publishers
2017
nidottu
Nearly twenty years after they happened, the ATF and FBI assaults on the Branch Davidian residence near Waco, Texas remain the most deadly law enforcement action on American soil. The raid by Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms agents on February 28, 1993, which resulted in the deaths of four ATF agents and six Branch Davidians, precipitated a 51-day siege conducted by the FBI. The FBI tank and gas assault on the residence at Mount Carmel Center on April 19 culminated in a fire that killed 53 adults and 23 children, with only nine survivors. In A Journey to Waco, survivor Clive Doyle not only takes readers inside the tragic fire and its aftermath, but he also tells the larger story of how and why he joined the Branch Davidians, how the Branch Davidian community developed, and the status of survivors. While the media and official reports painted one picture of the Branch Davidians and the two assaults, A Journey to Waco shares a much more personal account of the ATF raid, the siege, and the final assault that details events unreported by the media. A Journey to Waco presents what the Branch Davidians believed and introduces readers to the community’s members, including David Koresh. A Journey to Waco is a personal account of one man’s journey with the Branch Davidians, through the tragic fire, and beyond.
