Father Demetrio has been concerned with Philippine Mythology and Folklore for a good number of years now even before these themes moved into the brighter light of more general attention and interest. For some time now he has been interested, not only in gathering together data on Philippine folklore, folk beliefs and practices, but in instituting a dialogue between philosophy and theology and the world of myth and symbol in Philippine context. He has for years labored patiently and perseveringly in the interest and service of this vari-faceted dialogue. Even a cursory reading of these essays will tell the reader that there is much of interest between the covers of this book for a very wide range of students. Father Demetrio has gathered a wealth of information and data, which he presents with care. He raises questions and points for reflection, takes up at least tentative positions which will surely stimulate others to study more deeply and to reflect more fully on the issues which are here brought to light.PHILIPPINE MYTHS: THEIR MEANINGTowards an Understanding of Philippine MythsEarly Filipino View of
It has been theorized that one's mental and physical well being can be directly related to the level of stress one experiences. Of course if this is a reality, it is not farfetched to think that the intensity and duration of the high level of stress experience can be devastating over a long period of time. This happened to be the case with Jonah Long, who because of his internal drive to be successful, made him an ideal case for reaching his mental breaking point. Since he never discovered how to relax and relieve stress, he enlisted the help of one of his colleagues, a person who had the same dreams and drive to reach optimal success but never displayed the tell tale signs of stress and strain. Without even knowing the full extent of Jonah's concerns, his colleague leaped into action for freeing Jonah from his mental prison and proposed the perfect solution, the Ultimate Escape..

Sports law has been growing with increasing rapidity over the years since the first edition of this book was published in 1999, regularly making headlines as well as leading to a developing body of law practised by specialist lawyers. This revised work, by leading practitioners in the field, with a foreword by Lord Coe, provides a coherent framework for understanding the principles of sports law in this area, as well as a deep analysis of its key features. The subject is split into various areas of practice: first, regulatory rules, which embrace the constitutional aspect of organised sport, including the disciplinary procedures of the various governing organisations; second, broadcasting and marketing resulting from the commercial exploitation, including sponsorship, of sports clubs, sporting events and players; and third, player's rights and obligations, which embraces a wide range of legal issues including club transfers and player contracts, and issues arising from employment (including discrimination law), personal injury and criminal law. Special attention is paid to the impact of EU and Human Rights law as well as to the influential jurisprudence of the Court of Arbitration for Sport. London 2012 provides an appropriate point at which to assess the current state of the law, as well as a look to the future. The target readership extends from solicitors, barristers and legal advisers, to sports organisations and clubs, corporations involved in marketing and sponsorship, media companies, academics teaching sports law, and sports administrators. “I commend it to everyone who has to administer sport as well as to those who have to advise the administrators or argue cases in the field on whatever side. It is a gold medal book.”From the Foreword by Lord Coe KBEThis title is included in Bloomsbury Professional's Sports Law online service.

“…this edition is hugely well researched, equally well written and provides a holistic approach to the wide-ranging elements that comprise an ever-increasing and ever more popular specialist area of the law…What sets this publication apart from its competitors is the very essence that the reader is benefiting from the duality both of the collective knowledge and hands-on experience of the authorship in all aspects. A considered group opinion is thus put forward and is notably refreshing in the process…It is thoroughly enriched by being logical, intuitive, engagingly written and, above all, insightful…Practitioners, academics and sports administrators alike, cannot fail to be impressed and now everyone concerned in sports law has at their fingertips a handbook they can treat as a working bible. We cannot commend it highly enough.” – Mel Goldberg, International Sports Law Review, Issue 4 “Any lawyer interested in the field of sports law should have the Second Edition of Sports Law to hand; its lucid, comprehensive yet concise exposition of the relevant jurisprudence is as invigorating as a cold blast of fresh air in a sweaty workout. It reads like a good opinion, in which the author has mastered his subject and speaks authoritatively, with the answer and reasoning set out clearly and understood...Sports Law is written with intellectual rigour combined with a zest for the subject matter. The four authors bring a diversity of juridical backgrounds that instills a breath of vision into the analysis. If you are a busy practitioner looking for the "answer" to a sports law problem, this is the textbook; if you are an academic searching for some underlying principles and theories, there is plenty for you too.” – Tim Lord QC, Counsel Magazine “One of the many strengths of this book is its concision and good English. It is well bound, clearly and comprehensively footnoted and with full case indices at the beginning. It is easy to read ... Any law firm or sports organisation which has sports legal issues arising from time to time would find this book a very useful addition to library shelves. The authors have struck a lovely balance between in-depth knowledgeable commentary but presented in a way the busy lawyer can understand. It will be my first port of call from now on for any sports law question.” – Susan Singleton, IT Law Today Written by leading practitioners in the field, this book provides a coherent framework for understanding the principles of sports law. The subject is split into various areas of practice. First regulatory rules, which embrace the constitutional aspect of organised sport including the disciplinary procedures of the various sport governing organisations. Written by an expert team, including the father of sports law, Michael Beloff QC, this is required reading for all those practising in the field.

This book provides a comprehensive study of the work of M. David Merrill, a major pioneer in the field of instructional design. This book centers on his research on his second generation instructional design (ID2) theory, Instructional Transaction Theory, and First Principles of Instruction, which has had a substantial impact on the instructional design field. It’s appealing to the instructional design research and practitioner-based communities who can draw on specific sections of this book to enhance their own work. It is also intended for those seeking to learn more about the relationship between the instructional design field, learning theory, curriculum studies, and lifelong learning/adult education studies. Through this critical, yet empathetic study of Merrill’s 50+ year research agenda, this book provides an illuminating field of entry into a broad range of topics, both those that are central to Merrill’s own research agenda, and into areas that extend well beyond his essentially cognitivist epistemological assumptions.

Over the last number of decades much progress has been made in the investigation of the hyperconvex hull, the investigations of Dress and Isbell being most widely known. The aim of this research is to provide sufficient background on the q-hyperconvex hull in T0-quasimetric spaces, to ensure that the reader may enjoy the theory later on, whereby the results obtained earlier are used in measuring the skewness of a T0-quasimetric space. It starts off with a general introduction into T0-quasimetric spaces and the concepts of convexity and q-hyperconvexity, whereby we later discuss a summary of results for q-hyperconvex hulls in T0-quasimetric spaces which has been investigated in the past. We conclude by commencing an investigation in the measurement of skewness of asymmetric distances in T0-quasimetric spaces. We compare our method of measuring skewness with that of Plastria's. Here several results obtained from the q-hyperconvex hull and tight extensions are generalised, and some original results for the measuring of skewness in T0-quasimetric spaces are presented.

This book investigates if and how agricultural market structures and farm constraints affect the development of dynamic food and cash crop sectors and whether these sectors can contribute to economic transformation and poverty reduction in Africa. The authors map the current cash and food crops supply chains in six African countries, characterizing their markets structures and domestic competition policies. At the farm level, the book studies the constraints faced by small holders to increase productivity and break out of a vicious cycle in which low productivity exacerbates vulnerability to poverty. In a series of micro case studies, the project explores how cooperatives and institutions may help overcome these constraints. This book will appeal to scholars and policy makers seeking instruments to promote increased agriculture productivity, resolve food security issues, and promote agribusiness by diversifying exports and increasing trade and competitiveness.
