The B-58 Hustler - Promotional Ads for the World's First Supersonic Bomber. 2nd Edition.
I was one of the lucky ones to have flown in the B-58 Hustler. This large format (8 1/2 x 11) book contains 73 Promotional Ads by Convair, its subcontractors and other suppliers for the World's First Supersonic Bomber. This 2nd Edition almost doubles the number of promotional ads about the B-58 that I had collected over the years and that were initially presented in the first edition. I restored a number of them to make the picture quality and text sharp and more readable. This edition should now contain the most complete collection of ads in existence. It should be a valuable historical document for B-58 aficionados as well as military aircraft lovers all over the world. Like the first edition there is a description of speed records by the Hustler, along with trophy photos and a comparison of top speeds with other bombers and fighters.

The forty-first president of the United States, George Herbert Walker Bush, arguably had more preparation for the office than any other man who has held the office. Although he served only one term, President Bush saw the nation through the end of the Cold War, the 1989 invasion of Panama, and the first Persian Gulf War in Iraq.

In recent years, George Clooney has become politically engaged, lending his energy, money, and name to a number of humanitarian, environmental, and liberal causes. Chief among these is his valiant effort to alert the world to a humanitarian crisis that has been raging virtually unchecked in the Darfur region of Sudan since 2003. It may turn out that George Clooney's most heroic role was played behind the scenes. This biography offers a thorough survey of this larger-than-life movie star and an account of his passionate engagement in global politics on behalf of Darfur's innocent victims.
B-Sides, Undercurrents and Overtones: Peripheries to Popular in Music, 1960 to the Present
There are undercurrents and peripheral taste preferences that are a defining part of our individual and collective cultural experience. Music is no exception. George Plasketes adapts the iconic "A-side/B-side" dichotomy from the 45 r.p.m. for use as a unique conceptual, critical, historical, and cultural framework for exploring and threading together a variety of popular music and media texts. The profiles and perspectives focus on the peripheries; on texts which might be considered "B-sides"”overlooked, underappreciated, and unsung cases, creators, patterns and productions that have unassumingly, but significantly, marked popular culture, music and media during the past 40 years. The underappreciated yet enduring contributions of a variety of creative individuals in music, television and film are a centerpiece of this volume: actress Doris Day's son, Terry Melcher, a 1960s music producer whose imprint is on the surf, country blues, garage pop and most importantly the folk rock genre; Hans Fenger's kid chorus cover project, a musical variation of "outsider art" that became representative of the tribute wave that began in the 1990s and continues today; versatile guitarist virtuoso Ry Cooder's extensive film soundtrack work; World Music "missionary efforts" of American artists beyond Paul Simon's Graceland, including Neil Diamond's precursor with Tap Root Manuscript in the 1970s and the exotic adventures of Henry Kaiser and David Lindley in Madagascar and Norway”to name just a few examples. These B-sides represent undercurrents, but they resonate as overtones in the mainstream of music and culture, many as historical hinges. Collectively, these B-sides are an A-side antidote of outskirt observations, individual snapshots of artists, artifacts and rituals, genres and generations, producers and musical productions in television, film and video. They constitute an important connect-the-dots cultural chronicle with a multi-layered context”social, legal, historic, economic, technological, generational, aesthetic”for interpreting the interrelations between creators and institutions, the music market place, the production of culture and important connections between the peripheral and the popular.

George Croghan--land speculator, Indian trader, and prominent Indian agent--was a man of fascinating, if dubious, character whose career epitomized the history of the West before the Revolution. This study is based on Croghan's long-lost personal papers that were found by the author in an old Philadelphia attic.Originally published in 1959.A UNC Press Enduring Edition -- UNC Press Enduring Editions use the latest in digital technology to make available again books from our distinguished backlist that were previously out of print. Although Matthew B. Ridgway's life is almost entirely overlooked today, he was a highly significant figure in twentieth-century United States political and military history. He commanded the 82nd Airborne Division in the invasion in Europe in World War II, succeeded MacArthur in Korea, was the U.S. delegate to the United Nations and served as Supreme Commander of the Far East and Supreme Commander in Europe - the only general to hold both supreme commands. He was counsellor to four presidents. He helped found a university research centre on national security, and was a powerful influence in national political-military affairs for 40 years. Using Ridgway's personal papers, George Mitchell offers a unique and compelling view of this American hero. The author is in the unique position of knowing many of the places, events and people involved extremely well; he brings to Ridgway's life an understanding of the times and events that few could match and his global understanding is second to none.

GEORGE W. BUSH -- On The Trips Of His Tongue
Everyone should have a legacy. Ask yourself today what you'd most want to be remembered for tomorrow if you died tonight. You should have an answer at the ready. Yes, it's true, according to our 43rd President, that "you never know what your history is going to be like until long after you're gone," but that shouldn't stop you from considering who you were while you still are. Welcome to Bush Country, and the landscape of its linquistic legacy.
