Complete FreeBSD

FreeBSD is by far the most popular version of BSD(r), the legendary operating system that has contributed a great deal to every version of Unix(r) in use today (including Mac OS(r) X). Originally a community effort by the University of California at Berkeley, FreeBSD was aimed at making Unix a little friendlier and easier to use. By the time other free operating systems came along, BSD was firmly established and very reliable. And it continues to be today. For seven years, the FreeBSD community has relied on Greg Lehey's classic, The Complete FreeBSD, to guide them through its configuration and administration. The 4th edition, covering version 5 of FreeBSD, is now available through O'Reilly Community Press. The Complete FreeBSD is an eminently practical guidebook that explains not only how to get a computer up and running with the FreeBSD operating system, but also how to turn it into a highly functional and secure server that can host large numbers of users and disks, support remote access, and provide web service, mail service, and other key parts of the Internet infrastructure. The book provides in-depth information on installation and updates, back-ups, printers, RAID, various Internet services, firewalls, the graphical X Window system, and much more. Author Greg Lehey is a member of the FreeBSD core team and has been developing, documenting, and advocating for FreeBSD for nearly ten years. Whether you're an experienced Unix user or just interested in learning more about this free operating system and how you can put it to work for you, this do-it-yourself BSD documentation will provide the information you need. The Complete FreeBSD is the second release in the O'Reilly Community Press Series. Unlike classic O'Reilly animal books, which are created to fill an information void, the Community Press titles provide convenient printed copies of documentation that is already available online. O'Reilly's role in the series is limited to providing manufacturing and distribution services rather than editorial development, so that each Community Press title reflects the editorial voice and organization of the community that has created it.

Santa is in an institution. The good elves live on food rations in Old Town. The reindeer are mentally bent. The Herald Angels are powerless to bring corruption to the forefront in their newspaper. Can two humans save the North Pole and destroy the sinner's paradise that Jack Frost built? With melted snowmen on the take, a nutcracker-toy soldier army, ostracized elves and some reindeer bent on the North Pole's restoration, join the revolution to save Christmas. Reader discretion advised. This is a Christmas tale for adults. Bad language and sexual situations, not to mention the destruction of nearly every Christmas icon that we hold dear.

Get Top Ranking On Google And Other Search Engines
Most web designers fail because the business owner did not lead them properly. Business owners know their businesses best and need to guide their website designers in creating websites that rank well. This book not only teaches business owners how to get high visibility on the search engines, it teaches them what to do once visitors land on their websites to convert those visitors into paying customers, phone calls, or walk-in traffic. The best news? Natural search engine ranking is more effective than advertisements and, better yet, free. Book author Greg Bright uses an up-to-date, non-technical approach to motivate small business owners to get proactive in their internet marketing - written in layman's terms. "Most books on Search Engine Optimization and Internet Marketing are written by techies for techies, in daunting technical jargon." Grow Your Business Online - Fall 2008
A Devil on One Shoulder and an Angel on the Other: The Story of Shannon Hoon and Blind Melon
One of the most tragic stories of the 1990's rock world was that of singer Shannon Hoon, and his band, Blind Melon. Despite scoring one of the decade's most enduring singles and videos, "No Rain,"and a quadruple platinum hit with their 1992 self-titled debut album (in addition to touring alongside rock's biggest names), Hoon could not overcome a dangerous drug addiction. Only two records into a promising career, Hoon was dead from an overdose at the age of 28. 'A Devil on One Shoulder and an Angel on the Other' is the first book to tell the group's story--culled from over 50 exclusive interviews (including the surviving band members and those closest to the band) and featuring many never-before-seen photos. "I am honored that Greg has painstakingly accounted for what the hell happened during those crazy times. He has summed up all the chaos, jubilation, and paranoia that is Blind Melon." -Brad Smith, Blind Melon bassist

The Rainforest: The Secret to Building the Next Silicon Valley
What makes places like Silicon Valley tick? Can we replicate that magic in other places? Discover the answers in this groundbreaking book from two of the world's leading experts at the intersection of venture capital and global development. Victor W. Hwang and Greg Horowitt propose a radical new theory to explain the nature of innovation ecosystems: human networks that generate extraordinary creativity and output. They argue that free market thinking fails to consider the impact of human nature on the innovation process. This ambitious work challenges the basic assumptions that economists have held for over a century. The authors argue that innovation ecosystems - what they call Rainforests - can only thrive when certain cultural behaviors unlock human potential. Their theory of the Rainforest is influenced by several breakthrough ideas in academia, including insights on sociobiology from Harvard, economic transactions from the University of Chicago, and design theory from Stanford. With an unorthodox and entertaining narrative, the book reveals the mysterious mechanisms of Rainforests. Furthermore, the authors provide practical tools for readers to design, build, and sustain new innovation communities. The Rainforest will transform the way you think about technology, business, and leadership.
Family-id --- Intentional Direction: Discover Your Family's Unique Purpose and Passion!
"The first time we had lunch together over a decade ago. What I thought would be just another lunch with a great guy from my church turned into a pivotal meeting for my life and family. With overwhelming passion, Greg barely touched his chicken sandwich as he vividly described to me all the plans he had for the Gunn family. 'Our family is our most important ministry. And if we help them know Christ, we can change the world ' Greg blurted out with contagious faith." ---Craig GroeschelThere is a gigantic disconnect that exists in our minds. Really just a mirage-like separation between worlds: the spiritual and the secular. Certain basic principles are required to run a successful business - a decent business plan and goals. Try to leave as little as possible to chance and maximize your efficiency by making sure everything you do has a purpose. And furthermore that purpose serves the business. That same successful businessperson goes home, and doesn't have a clue. It's as though he thinks everything that he wants to happen at home is just going to happen by accident. That somehow it's just going to come together. It does not.Our goal is to teach and train more than one million families to "stir it up" and draw out the God-given purpose for their family, to lead them to "write it down", to equip them to "live it out", and inspire them to"pass it on" to future generations.

2023 Edition with New Introduction by Kerry Candaele on the second film in his acclaimed trilogy, Love & Justice: In the Footsteps of Beethoven's Rebel Opera. "A passionate, deeply felt and altogether personal account of coming to Beethoven in middle age, after a lifetime's immersion in other musical forms. They understand Beethoven's eternal wildness: As well as we may think we know this composer, he constantly surprises and reinvigorates us." -- Tim Page, Pulitzer Prize-winning writer on classical music, Professor of Music and Journalism at the University of Southern CaliforniaFinally, a Beethoven for our time. In Journeys With Beethoven, Kerry Candaele and Greg Mitchell offer a unique and dynamic exploration of the composer's musical, cultural and political influence, around the world and in America, today. It's a new kind of adventure story--and expanded in this new 2013 edition. The two longtime rock 'n rollers-Candaele is a writer, musician and filmmaker, Mitchell a journalist and author of twelve previous books-discovered a shared passion for Beethoven later in life, and in this book they probe this deep obsession. Candaele illuminates trips for his new "Following the Ninth" documentary set in Chile, China, Germany, Japan and London (with Billy Bragg), while Mitchell, who is co-producer of the film, travels to famous U.S. venues, screens dozens of films related to Beethoven. He also interviews a leading pianist, Jeremy Denk, and trombonist Joseph Alessi, and others.Five years ago, Candaele set out on a world journey to film the global impact-in freedom struggles, and in inspiring people in their daily lives-of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. He ended up traveling to twelve countries and four continents. His film has drawn raves from The New York Times, Bill Moyers and "All Things Considered," among others. In China he discovered why a student leader played the Ninth over a loudspeaker as the troops moved in to Tiananmen Square. In England, the folk/punk singer, Billy Bragg, talked about writing a new libretto for the Ninth in English. Candaele was there when his version was performed before the Queen. In Japan, the Ninth is performed hundreds of times each December, sometimes with 5000 or 10,000 singers in the chorus, intent on transmitting a message of solidarity between all people. And in a new chapter for this edition, he tells the story of how a young East German woman--and famed conductor Leonard Bernstein--marked the falling of the Berlin Wall, aided by Beethoven. As Journeys With Beethoven reveals, the Ninth turns worlds inside out and upside down.In Part II of the book, Greg Mitchell-who as senior editor at the legendary Crawdaddy magazine helped create the first major article about Bruce Springsteen-describes his own journey to Beethoven and his pursuit of all things Ludwig during the past several years via CDs, films, books, lectures, and what he calls the "new LvB delivery systems" music downloads, YouTube videos, blogs, Web forums, Twitter feeds. He also takes us to some of the dozens of recent concerts he's attended throughout the northeast United States and in London. He poses questions to experts such as Beethoven biographer Edmund Morris and author Tim Page, besides his very revealing interviews with Denk and Alessi. We learn how Beethoven changed the lives of famous writers and musicians, from William F. Buckley to Leonard Bernstein. Mitchell (who writes the popular new blog, Roll Over, Beethoven) even provides a guide to Beethoven films, from the silent era to A Clockwork Orange and Immortal Beloved.
