In 1513, Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon first set foot on Florida's east coast. The land he discovered was a geographic anomaly so distinctive that astronaut Neil Armstrong said Florida was the first shape on earth he recognized on his return from a visit to the moon 456 years later. This unique state witnessed momentous events from the 1959 arrival of the first Cuban exiles under Fidel Castro to the 1981 launch of the "Columbia," the first space shuttle. Join author and historian James C. Clark as he chronicles the history of the Sunshine State in this concise and captivating history.

In The Yankee Fleet: Maritime New England in the Age of Sail, James C. Johnston Jr. recounts the famous tales that have given the Northeast such a storied maritime tradition. From the stern Puritan fathers to Francisco Ruiz, New England s last known pirate, Johnston canvasses the accounts of the men and women who fished, fought, explored and marauded in sailing craft over the region s fickle yet fertile waters. With occasional forays into the nautical history of the Chesapeake and trans-Atlantic realms, The Yankee Fleet offers a colourful and offbeat exploration of Yankee sailors and the world they made."

Snow, wind and frigid temperatures devastated parts of Wyoming and neighboring states in 1949. For nearly two months, towns and ranches were marooned by enormous drifts, some reportedly eighty feet tall. The storm stranded hundreds of motorists on the highways and stalled nearly two dozen trains at depots throughout the state. Communities pulled together to assist not only their neighbors but also anyone unable to escape the snowstorm. The deaths of motorists and livestock weighed heavily on the minds of Americans as news spread nationwide. Author and historian James Fuller recounts these harrowing stories of tenacity and fortitude.

Florida historian James Clark tells the stories of scores of writers including Robert Frost, Jack Kerouac, John D. MacDonald, and Stephen King. Hunter Thompson driving through the streets of Key West using a bullhorn to warn the citizens, Tennessee Williams partying with Truman Capote, Ring Lardner planning a get together with Al Capone--it's all here.

Spiritual Formation as if the Church Mattered – Growing in Christ through Community
2022 Martin Institute/Dallas Willard Center Book Award FinalistMost books on spiritual formation focus on the individual. But spiritual formation is at the heart of the church's whole purpose for existence. It must be a central task for the church to carry out Christ's mission in the world. This book offers an introduction to spiritual formation set squarely in the local church. The first edition has been well received and widely used as a textbook. The second edition has been updated throughout, incorporates findings from positive psychology, and reflects an Augustinian formation perspective. Foreword by Dallas Willard.

Most anyone can putt a golf ball. Very few are able to hit the hole consistently. It is amazing to watch the pros do it But we can all do better with more practice and training. However there is a science behind accurate putting and the purpose of this book is to present results of an analysis for use by the average golfer and the pro as well, and particularly for the golfers who want to improve their techniques and add some birdies to their scores. Hopefully all readers will gain appreciation of the science behind good putting. This book presents the results of an analysis of the path of putting a golf ball on sloping greens. The analysis was begun in 2011 and a computer algorithm has also been developed. For given conditions of slope, rolling resistance, and distance to the hole, the initial velocity and initial angle of the putting stroke can be predicted for the curved path needed to put the ball in the hole. In addition there is a section added that is devoted to chipping as well. The details of the analysis was copyrighted in a paper in 2012, "GOLFPATH (c) - Predicting the Path of Putting a Golf Ball on Sloping Greens". This paper is included in the Appendix 1 of this book for those who have more background in mathematics and concepts of physics and engineering. The author has attempted to present results of the analysis in a graphic way and in tables to be more easily understood. It has been difficult to explain everything without some algebra and trigonometry. This may cause some readers to refresh their knowledge in these subjects. If so, a little difficulty will not be in vain.
