His dining magic gives aged couples a hormone blast from the past, making them act and feel like randy teenagers. His nose also points him to a sizzling adventure that gives new meaning to genre blurring with a recipe that includes a dash of sci-fi, a cup of international terrorism, a sprinkling of superhero action, a pinch of revenge, and side dishes that include a business thriller, a foodie adventure, and humour. Here's what reviewers had to say: "John Matsui's Gravity Games is an innovative novel, way out of the box - it's not your run-of-the-mill thriller. The characterization is extraordinary .... The plot weaves in and out, up and down, backwards and forward, creating several riveting, spiraling illusive sub-plots. The science of 'negative gravity, ' the hidden agendas, all the underlying lurid details portray a mind-boggling narrative."Five Stars - Cheryl E. Rodriguez for ReadersFavorite.com. "Delightfully different in its approach, even Nathan's nose for trouble is challenged in Gravity Games, which winds science into the mix and invites mystery fans to investigate realms that usually lie outside the typical genre read ... Terrorism and food usually don't mix; but here they are explored in exquisite passages that keep readers guessing and involved. The hallmark of a solid mystery read is its ability to captivate even the most avid of genre readers: Gravity Games doesn't just involve; it immerses readers in the finer details of the story. Highly recommended for any mystery fan who also happens to cultivate an affection for food and special problem-solving abilities. Five stars - Diane C. Donovan for Midwest Book ReviewThe characters could have been enough to carry this novel, mind you, but no, it's also a plot of very finely crafted gears and super-satisfying games that had me chortling and had me nodding my head when it came to the big issues, too.It was fun, fascinating, and I haven't had this much fun with antigravity in... um... EVER Five Stars - Bradley Horner, Top Goodreads Review

A compelling, thrilling tale of love in slavery times. When house-servant Abednego is sold away south, his broken-hearted field-hand lover Cyrus snaps and flees the estate on which he has lived his entire life. Leaving everything he knows behind him, and evading patrollers and dogs to head north and find freedom, in the midst of a dismal swamp Cyrus receives the revelation that Abednego is his true North Star, and, impossible though it seems, he determines to find and rescue his lost lover from slavery.Ten years in the writing, NAACP Image Award nominee John R Gordon's Drapetomania is an epic and exciting tale of black freedom, uprising, and a radical representation of romantic love between black men in slavery times."We've seen the African-American slave narrative told from many perspectives, but in this groundbreaking novel, Gordon becomes the first to explore this experience through the eyes of a gay slave. The result is an all-out masterpiece. With this bold, painstakingly historicized effort, Gordon arguably makes a bid to join the ranks of some of the greatest writers of the African-American experience - Baldwin, Haley, Morrison, Walker. This book is just THAT good. It's no easy task to write what feels like a classic American novel in the 21st century, but Gordon has done just that."- Patrik-Ian Polk (Blackbird; The Skinny; Noah's Arc)"John R Gordon's novel, Drapetomania Or, The Narrative of Cyrus Tyler & Abednego Tyler, lovers is a riveting, masterful work. Set against the brutalizing, material captivity meant to break the soul, that came to define the chattel enslavement of Africans in the American south, "Drapetomania" tells the compelling story of two men whose love for each other reimagines the erotic contours of what was possible under the whip and scrutiny of catastrophic bondage. Here is a story of love so powerful, so achingly present, it dares to consider not just the past but the future, as vital to freedom; and in doing so, defies any notion of the black enslaved body as an ugly, unpalatable thing, unworthy of the sweetness of love. Gordon's novel enters the company of such classic works as Edward P. Jones's The Known World, Toni Morrison's Beloved, and Barry Unsworth's Sacred Hunger. We will be reading and talking about this extraordinary novel for years to come."- Alexis De Veaux, (author, Yabo and Sister Outsider: A Biography of Audre Lorde)

Ft. Benning and the Infantry School produced thousands of officers for the Vietnam War as it did in World War II and the Korean War. Scumbags, the Making of an American Officer recounts the experiences of John Oreskovich in Ft. Benning's Infantry Officer Candidate School Class 4-72. This class, which graduated 12 July 1972, sent 126 commissioned officers into the United States Army. He would later return to Ft. Benning to go through Airborne School, after attending Air Defense Officer training at Ft. Bliss. This book recounts those days of intense preparatory training, written with a touch of humor and sometimes distain for what was endured: the countless push-ups, running everywhere for six months in combat boots, and the attention to detail piled on by the ever-present tactical officers. Attention to detail was a course in verbal harassment applied by the TACS of 51st Company: "hey you, Scumbag" or "you Scumbag..."

And still the numbers keep growing while the frustrations of the caregivers continue to increase. Advances in medical research technology, the shrinking number of hospital Geriatric departments, time pressures on physicians, and increasing expectations further compound this caregiving scenario. In what should be an environment of love and understanding, many startled caregiver feel trapped in a deplorable, even unforgivable dilemma. The bottom line is they are worn out and many want out. This book is intended to restore their hope and confidence that all can be well.

Abandoned in Berlin invites the reader to decide if anti-Semitism in Germany ended after the war or was simply concealed by a new set of West German laws. The story uncovers the history of a prestigious block of Jewish-owned apartments in West Berlin, expropriated under National Socialism at the end of March 1936. The leading characters are a widow and her two teenage daughters, with the story narrated in the third person by Hilda, the only child of the youngest daughter, who currently lives in Novato, northern California. Uncovering the family history begins during June 2016 when Hilda visits Berlin to discover the home where her mother lived as a child and teenager. Through diligent research and the help of people and organizations in Berlin, Britain, the United States, and Israel, a story of persecution, discrimination, courage, and survival emerges. Important events are exposed that begin in December 1929 when the father of the family dies suddenly of natural causes, and leaves his wife to bring up the two adolescent daughters and manage the apartment business in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district of Berlin. The youngest girl legally inherits a share of the property, but because she is under age-21 and has no father, she is placed under the "care" of a Nazi Guardianship Court during late 1933. As a consequence, the Court controls all financial matters affecting the property. Slowly its requirements squeeze Hilda's family out of their home and rental business, and then out of Germany. Not until during the early 1950s can the survivors pursue restitution under newly-created West German jurisprudence. What happens at this time is described in Abandoned in Berlin.
