A thriller set in the year is 2030 in a world where Christianity is outlawed. Freedom of Religion and Freedom of Speech are gone. The world is transformed. There are signs but the warnings are ignored. Beware: Judas and Jezebel are tracking you. LAST STATION BEFORE HEAVEN is a thriller sprinkled with mystery in a world where people jeopardize everything in search of an underground salvation. The clock is ticking in a race against time. The Synthesizers are on the hunt to exterminate an entire generation of Seekers and Believers. Sometimes it's easy to find the good in people. Sometimes the line between good and evil is blurred even for the men of the cloth. This narrative is documented to spread the message: "There is hope. You are not alone. We are here." May those who lead the way rest in peace.

Barry Barack Hussein Soetoro Obama, Identity, and Racial Hypocrisy in America: Double Standards, Double Speak, and Double Binds
This book-unlike any other discussing Barack Obama-merely uses the former president as a means to an end. That end is encapsulated in Chapter 15, "General Racial Reconciliation Impediments and General Solutions." The chapter acknowledges the incontrovertible truth that race relations in America have been the most corrosive influence to the well-being of all our citizens since the first slave ship arrived on our shores. The book then proceeds to offer evidence-based insights that, when applied, can move us decisively and incrementally toward really living the truth that all people are created equal. Barry Barack Hussein Soetoro Obama, Identity, and Racial Hypocrisy in America: Double Standards, Double Speak, and Double Binds explains how small but influential groups of white and black people promulgate negative racial stereotypes for personal gain and to justify their own misanthropic views of each other. The rest of us, therefore, must fully understand racial reconciliation impediments and fully implement corrective strategies.

Memory and the future of Europe examines the role of collective memory in the origins and development of the European Union. It traces Europe’s political, economic and financial crisis to the loss of the remembrance of the rupture of 1945. As the generations with personal memories of the two world wars pass away, economic welfare has become the EU’s sole raison d’être. If it is to survive its future challenges, the EU will have to create a new historical imaginary that relies not only on the lessons of the past but also builds on Europe’s ability to protect its citizens against the power of global market forces. Framing its argument through the critical theory of the Frankfurt School, this volume will attract readers interested in political and social philosophy, collective memory studies, European studies, international relations and contemporary politics.

Scandals and high political office regularly coincide. Over the last five decades, with the world watching the American president as its preeminent international figure, scandals affecting the president have had both international origins and international consequences. Every president from Richard Nixon to Donald Trump has faced scandal but only a handful have faced a scandal so large that it threatened impeachment or even the political system itself. Hence, this is a study of five scandals or in the case of Clinton and Trump, scandalous presidencies that produced impeachments · Nixon and Watergate · Reagan and Iran-Contra · Clinton and Impeachment · Bush and the 2000 election/Trump and the 2016 election · Trump and Impeachments Along the way, several trends have shaped the course of presidential scandals. One set has been political. Scandal operates in tandem with partisanship. The intensity of party divisions was obviously a factor in creating the context for all the scandals discussed. Scandal also springs from personality. Few would disagree that the character of Nixon, Clinton and Trump was the seedbed for the scandals they faced. But more broadly, it seems the traits required of a successful presidential candidate have changed. What would once have damned a candidate is no longer an insurmountable obstacle. What blocked Gary Hart in 1988 could not stop Donald Trump in 2016. The second group of trends stem from the changing media landscape. Richard Nixon operated in a world dominated by major TV networks. Clinton in a time that saw the emergence of cable channels such as Fox News that tailored their coverage to the biases of their viewers; and Trump in a world of internet websites and social media, where securing attention takes precedence over accuracy. These trends have added fuel to gossip and therefore scandal. As the 2016 election demonstrated, they have also enabled a new form of cyber warfare that probes US weaknesses by fostering internal disunity. The question now is: Does scandal still carry a cost? In 2024, the jury is still deliberating.

In the 1980s and early 1990s, Scotland was an excellent destination for the railway enthusiast. The many locomotive hauled trains running through splendid scenery, together with the surviving railway infrastructure and mechanical signalling, provided many fine photographic opportunities. My first railway visit to Scotland was on board The Fair Maid rail tour to Perth, behind Flying Scotsman in 1983\. The following year, I again travelled to Scotland, this time on the F & W Railtours The Skirl O' The Pipes 4, to Kyle of Lochalsh and Mallaig, my first visit to the Scottish Highlands. I had previously been travelling abroad for railways, but impressed by what I saw, I decided that I would quickly return to photograph the Scottish railway scene, before it changed too much. This was the start of a series of visits, each for one or two weeks, between 1984 and June 1991, covering the whole country. This book is a photographic record of the locomotives, trains and infrastructure of the railways of Scotland and the landscapes through which the trains ran, as recorded by my various cameras during the period of my visits.

Churchill famously claimed that the only thing that had really frightened him during the war was the Battle of the Atlantic. Keeping open the lifeline between the US arsenal of democracy' and the UK was essential to preparations for the invasion of Europe and in the final analysis this came down to building merchant ships faster than German U-boats could sink them. Crucial to this achievement was the British-designed Liberty Ship', a simple cargo ship that could be built rapidly, combined with the untapped industrial potential of the USA that could build them in vast numbers. Undoubtedly the most important individual in the rapid expansion of US wartime shipyard capacity was Henry Kaiser, a man with no previous shipbuilding experience but an entrepreneur of vision and drive. This book tells the story of how he established huge new yards using novel mass-production techniques in the most surprising location - Oregon, one of the least industrially developed areas of the US and one without an existing pool of skilled labour to draw on. But it did have space, and large tracts of virgin waterfront were ideal for laying out new shipyards from scratch. The workforce was created by encouraging people from all over the US to move to the area, and to facilitate this the company built its own housing - in fact, a whole new city for 44,000 workers - and provided a level of social care unheard of in present-day America let alone in the 1940s. It was keen to recruit women workers so to encourage mothers to go out to work it also built its own schools and nursery facilities. The result was a well-motivated workforce that turned the Kaiser yards into the most efficient shipbuilders in the country. In total Kaiser's Oregon yards built over 600 Liberties' and the follow-on Victory Ships' - including one built in the record time of 10 days - as well as around 150 tankers, some 50 escort carriers and nearly 100 amphibious warfare ships. Curiously, this truly remarkable achievement, of huge significance to the eventual Allied victory, has been consigned to the footnotes of history, but is fully documented and celebrated for the first time in this book.
