From the time I was eight years old, I can remember my dad telling me and mom and grandma stories around the dinner table about growing up on the farm. Getting up early to milk the cows and plow fields may not seem exciting to most kids and certainly, dad was glad he didn't have to do that anymore, but to me, there was a certain allure. I always dreamed about having a big, self-sustaining farm. Then I grew up. I got a job, got married and had kids. I got divorced and got 3 jobs to keep raising the kids. Finally, I burned out. I figured there was no time like the present. So I packed up the kids and moved out to the country. I have tended to make major life changes without a lot of forethought or planning. This has its drawbacks, to be sure, but jumping in with both feet also has its advantages. One is that you don't wait a lifetime to do what you want to do, stuck in a job and a place that is terribly unsatisfying but for the paycheck. I'm not going to encourage anyone to compulsively quit their job, pack up the car and pitch a tent in the desert, but I will share my story, along with hindsight suggestions for improvement. This book is about how I came to the decision to move to the country, the plans I made and the steps I took to do it, and some things I didn't do that I should have. I have tried to put together a guide for deciding whether moving to the country is for you, or if maybe what you need is just a minor lifestyle change. If you decide homesteading is for you, the book serves as kind of a checklist for what to consider and how to proceed to move out of the rat race, into a slower, more satisfying life. Chapters include evaluating Your Job, Your Financials, Your Lifestyle, and practical information on how to choose a location, Packing Up and Moving Out, and Making an Action Plan. Extensive resources at the back of the book include websites, books, and YouTube channels to investigate for more tips, professional help, and ideas. Get Out of the City and Thrive is in 3 parts. Book 1 - How I Did it and How You Can, Too - Deciding if you really want to get out of the city and making a plan to do so.Book 2 - Milking the Wild Goat - How to Find Land and Set up Your Homestead, including raising critters. Book 3 - Paying for the Dream - How to Thrive on Your Homestead gives you ideas for how to pay for it all.

Orphaned by War The Stacy Saga is the culmination of decades of genealogical research; however, it is far from being the end of research of the Stac(e)y family. It tells the brief history of the Stac(e)y family from James Stacy through to his great grandchildren. Approximately 100 years. Using service and pension documents of James Stac(e)y, census records, birth, marriage & death records, city directories, obituaries, historical documentation and family stories, the author has put together the tragic story of James & Mary Jane Stac(e)y. Telling the heartbreaking story of their three young children orphaned by a war that tore at the fabric of a young nation. The children, with the help of their aunt, their mother's sister, and uncle grew to become men their parents would be proud of as they themselves married and became fathers. Orphaned by War The Stacy Saga commemorates, memorializes and honors lives cut short and those that struggled to move on.
Three waxed cats, one Cookie Witch, a brazilian gone bad and the last name, Bermangoggleshitz... not the best ingredients for a successful spell. Or is it? Avoiding the truth has been working out just fine for most of my life. I'm finally happy. I have friends and a kangaroo shifter who adores me. Never in my twenty-nine witchy years did I think I would have a place to call home with people who truly cared. Now my BFF, Zelda, wants to have a chat. Can't crappy news wait? As soon as my varnished Virginia is mobile, I want to go home to my adorable little house I share with with the love of my life and my four semi-violent, adopted, gum-smacking chipmunk shifter sons. But, noooooooo... Instead of enjoying a bouncy romp of nookie with my marsupial man whose last name I should really find out, I have to deal with an odiferous, butt-ugly, dead-beat, evil warlock of a dad named Bermangoggleshitz-the very same douchecanoe that tried to kill my rodent children. Not to mention, said sperm donor has called up a Legion of demons from the Underworld. Fanfreakintastic. So armed with my questionable intellect, a shaky handle on the French language and a penchant for blowing up buildings, I'm gonna grab this problem by the nuts and squeeze-like a brazilian times...whoops, bazillion. That French gets me every time. I will have my happily ever after no matter what or my name's not Sassy Louise...umm... Bermangoggleshitz.

Ever wonder what it would be like to sell everything you own and start traveling? What if you could save enough money to not work for six months...or longer? What if your day revolved around what you felt like doing to fulfill your dreams and satisfy your soul? What if you could forget about obligations, responsibilities, and being accountable to someone other than yourself? What if you escaped the grind with five kids in tow?In The Road Less Traveled: Why You Shouldn't Give Up Your Comfy Couch, Hot Showers, and Steady Paycheck, Robyn shares what it's been like to walk away from a conventional life filled with routine and responsibilities and, instead, spend her days seeking adventure and making memories with her husband and five kids. While chasing waves, climbing hundred foot rock walls, and wandering along mountainous trails was the driving force for her in escaping the grind, it isn't so simple when it involves a significant other who is much more grounded and two young children who are less than excited to get up and hike every day. Robyn's story is a reminder that the compromises we make in order to fulfill (or not fulfill) our soul's desires aren't easy and self-growth requires effort and persistence. If you set off to see if the grass is greener on the other side, be ready for some brown patches in between. This is a great book for anyone who loves to travel or wants to be inspired to travel more
The Battle For Elder Home is the prequel to the Elder Chronicles. It relates the story of the peaceful Roeni people when they were nothing more than simple gatherers and how they eventually became 'The Elders'. When the 'Strangers' arrived to claim the Roeni planet as their own, they hatched a devious plan to force the Roeni to destroy the very food they lived on. But the Strangers carefully hid their terrible true intentions. Before the Strangers could complete their plan, a child came of age who said, 'No '; and who backed up her speech with action. The Strangers had seriously underestimated the Roeni.
Delving behind Canada's veneer of multiculturalism and tolerance, Policing Black Lives traces the violent realities of anti-blackness from the slave ships to prisons, classrooms and beyond. Robyn Maynard provides readers with the first comprehensive account of nearly four hundred years of state-sanctioned surveillance, criminalization and punishment of Black lives in Canada. While highlighting the ubiquity of Black resistance, Policing Black Lives traces the still-living legacy of slavery across multiple institutions, shedding light on the state's role in perpetuating contemporary Black poverty and unemployment, racial profiling, law enforcement violence, incarceration, immigration detention, deportation, exploitative migrant labour practices, disproportionate child removal and low graduation rates.Emerging from a critical race feminist framework that insists that all Black lives matter, Maynard's intersectional approach to anti-Black racism addresses the unique and understudied impacts of state violence as it is experienced by Black women, Black people with disabilities, as well as queer, trans, and undocumented Black communities.A call-to-action, Policing Black Lives urges readers to work toward dismantling structures of racial domination and re-imagining a more just society.
Describes the circumstances that led to Spanish settlement in Florida in the sixteenth century, conditions in the region at the time, and life in Spain and among the local Timucua Indians, and recounts the Thanksgiving celebration held there in 1565.
The REAL first Thanksgiving was in Florida on September 8, 1565, which is 56 years before the pilgrims celebrated in New England. The feast was shared between the Timucua Indians and the Spanish explorers under Pedro Menendez, the founder of St. Augustine.

The last two decades have seen a significant rise in the number of children being diagnosed with mental and behavioural disorders. As yet there is no definitive consensus as to why this is, or what it means about the world in which we live. Neverthless, parents and educators are being faced with challenges they did not foresee, and are often ill-equipped to address. Steiner-Waldorf education is based on the principle of seeing every child as an individual -- nothing is 'normal' or 'abnormal'; labelling children doesn't help. Drawing on the ideas of Rudolf Steiner's pioneering Curative Education course, this book goes back to basics and examines the potential benefits of this unique educational approach in today's classrooms. Robyn Brown, an experienced teacher, argues that it can lead to calmer, more productive learning spaces and children who develop into rounded individuals, ready to become responsible and creative citizens. At a time when even longtime experienced educators are struck by how the dynamics of their classrooms have changed, this is a much needed reminder of a tried and tested approach which can work for every child, and ultimately for a society.
As restless, reckless, and precise as the Colt revolver for which it is named, Robyn Schiff's ""Revolver"" 'repeats fire without reloading' as it reckons with the array of foreboding objects displayed at the Great Exhibition of 1851 and the traces of their ghosts one hundred years later.A dirge on the Singer Sewing Machine, an exuberant and unnerving rumination on multipurpose campaign furniture, and a breathless account of Ralph Lauren's silver Porsche 550 Spyder are among the collection's exhilarating corporate histories, urgent fantasias, and agonizing love poems. The long, lavish, and utterly unpredictable sentences that Schiff has assembled contort as much to discover what can't be contained as what can. This is a book of extremes relentlessly contemporary in scope. And like the eighty-blade sportsman's knife also described here, ""Revolver"" keeps opening and reopening to the daunting possibilities of transformation - 'Splayed it is a bouquet of all the ways a point mutates.'
