A follow-up to the experimental and instrumental aspects described in Basic Principles of Analytical Ultracentrifugation, the volume Sedimentation Velocity Analytical Ultracentrifugation: Discrete Species and Size-Distributions of Macromolecules and Particles describes the theory and practice of data analysis. Mathematical models for the sedimentation process and the evolution of detected signals are developed in a comprehensive framework, jointly with the description of current and historical strategies for how to extract from noisy experimental data the physical parameters of interest, such as size, mass, and shape, composition, and polydispersity of sedimenting particles. The methods are extensively illustrated, and supported with practical applications, as well as cross-references where to find the methods in the public domain software SEDFIT and SEDPHAT. The systems covered are discrete or polydisperse mixtures of sedimenting molecules or particles in dilute solution, such as proteins and other biomolecules and their stable complexes, man-made polymers, and nanoparticles, observed in different optical systems. These methods form the essential foundation for the analysis of dynamic interacting systems, which are covered in a separate volume.

In an article by Henri J.M. Nouwen, a Catholic priest, he describes his impressions after he saw Christ on a Donkey: "As Christ with a long slender face with a high forehead, inward-looking eyes, long hair and a small forked beard that expresses the mystery of his suffering in a way that holds me spellbound. This book aims to provide a comprehensive review of the contribution of network analysis to the understanding of tourism destinations and organizations. Theoretical and methodological aspects are discussed along with a series of applications. While this is a relatively new approach in the tourism literature, in other social and natural sciences network analysis has a long tradition and has provided important insights for the knowledge of the structure and the dynamics of many complex systems. The study of network structures, both from a quantitative and qualitative point of view, can deliver a number of useful outcomes also for the analysis of tourism destinations and organizations.

A good - ample of this is the all-powerful position held by the Internet, which is highly concurrent at many di?erent levels of decomposition. Thus, the modern c- puter scientist (and indeed the modern scientist in general) is forced to think aboutconcurrentsystemsandthesubtleandintricatebehaviourthatemerges from the interaction of simultaneously evolving components. Over a period of 25 years, or so, the ?eld of concurrency theory has been involved in the development of a set of mathematical techniques that can help system developers to think about and build concurrent systems. These theories are the subject matter of this book.

Durante 40 a os la migraci n internacional y el desarrollo econ mico adquieren importancia creciente en M xico ante los problemas de la deuda externa en 1982, el cambio del modelo econ mico sustitutivo de importaciones con alto crecimiento econ mico en los a os sesenta del siglo anterior por el modelo neoliberal de privatizaciones masivas, apertura y desregulaci n acelerada de la econom a nacional provocado por la crisis del endeudamiento externo ese a o que genera la desaparici n de las pol ticas p blicas de desarrollo econ mico regional y sectorial, el abandono del mercado interno y la generaci n de empleo, que producen un bajo crecimiento econ mico y la migraci n creciente a los Estados Unidos por m s de seis lustros de 780 mil a 12 millones de migrantes. Este proceso, resultado de una larga migraci n internacional entre ambos pa ses con m s de 100 a os de historia genera una creciente interdependencia econ mica por la participaci n de los migrantes mexicanos en mercados laborales espec ficos como la agricultura, la construcci n, la hosteler a, alimentos y servicios no calificados, con un aporte importante a la econom a de ese pa s en t rminos de mano de obra, impuestos y apoyo al sistema de pensiones. M xico se ha visto beneficiado con la reducci n de las tensiones en el raqu tico mercado laboral y un flujo creciente de remesas que ha beneficiado a m s de 1.6 millones de familias y ha sido un apoyo fundamental en las finanzas p blicas nacionales y el desarrollo regional en las zonas de mayor intensidad migratoria internacional.Tres temas centrales articulan la estructura de este libro, la participaci n creciente de las mujeres en la migraci n a Estados Unidos, la migraci n de retorno a M xico, incluida la posibilidad del retorno de migrantes calificados y la recurrencia de las crisis econ micas y la urgencia de aplicar un nuevo tipo de pol ticas p blicas de desarrollo econ mico y migraci n con enfoque de derechos que incluya de manera especial los problemas, las demandas y propuestas de las organizaciones migrantes mexicanas en Estados Unidos y sus comunidades en M xico.

In the last two decades, increasing inequalities in a broad range of countries have prompted many scholars to consider inequality as the main cause for social unrest, weakened institutions or people's disaffection toward democracy. However, this interpretation often relies on fragile theoretical foundations and conceptual ambiguity. To clarify these possible correlations, the present volume focuses on Latin America as a region characterized by persistently high level of inequality. It aims to: Disentangle the different meanings of inequality, taking into account that it is a complex phenomenon whose measure depends on the variables adopted to measure distributive asymmetries; Consider the complex of internal and external factors that impact distributive patterns, including those related to institutional arrangements and bargain power among different social actors;Examine the main effects of inequality, particularly on social services and subjective wellbeing, violence and insecurity, as well as institutional weakening; Finally, evaluate the effectiveness of different policies against inequality, the design of welfare systems, the pre-distributive and redistributive impacts of fiscal measures, and the creation of a culture of tolerance about inequality.
