How to write a play and get it produced - a manual for playwrights. Playwright and former literary manager Tim Fountain guides the budding playwright over the many hurdles involved in getting a play on - from finding a story that only you know, through the detailed construction of the play, and on to the strategies you can use to get it on stage. • What kind of play do you want to write? • Where do you get your ideas from? • How much exposition do you need? • Where do you find your characters' voices? • What should you do when you get stuck? • Where should you send your play? The book also deals with the actual production: choosing directors, designers and actors, and coping with rehearsals, previews and press nights. Includes appendixes of vital websites, and contact details for new-writing theatres, agents and publishers. 'A marvellous and invaluable guide... full of wisdom and no-nonsense practical advice on the tricky but thrilling business of making plays' Willy Russell
Now or Never: A Sustainable Future for Australia?: Quarterly Essay 31
Sometime this century, after 4 billion years, some of Earth's regulatory systems will pass from control through evolution by natural selection, to control by human intelligence. Will humanity rise to the challenge? This landmark essay by Tim Flannery is about sustainability, our search for it in the twenty-first century, and the impact it might have on the environ- mental threats that confront us today. Flannery discusses in detail three potential solutions to the most pressing of the sustainability challenges: climate change. He argues that Australia has a special responsibility when it comes to climate change, and that our prime minister could be a critical player on the global stage in Copenhagen in December 2009 - but only if we take swift and effective action and make sharp cuts in emissions. Brilliant and terrifying, Now or Never is a call to arms by Australia's leading thinker and writer on the natural world."Throughout the latter part of 2007 and into 2008, I found it increasingly hard to read the scientific findings on climate change without despairing ... I think that there is now a better than even chance that, despite our best efforts, in the coming two or three decades Earth's climate system will pass the point of no return." The Necronomicon Cycle: A Literary Commentary on The H.P. Lovecraft Tarot
The Necronomicon Cycle holds that religious ideology must be based on psychic projections sent forward from The Great Old Ones. This is stated in The Necronomicon and held as sacred by The Cult of R'Lyeh on Earth. It is on this basis that the HP Lovecraft Tarot, a classic work of underground religious literature and art with sample cards being used in illustrating The Necronomicon Cycle, shows itself as one of the most important documents published to represent The Necronomicon and as a document that can be seen to represent the theoretical basis of truth. This encyclopedic Work discusses the whole of the Lovecraftian system and allows the reader to interpret major decks of the occult and the standard, common pack of playing cards within a Lovecraftian context. For example, Yog-Sothoth. stands as the The High Priestess of occult decks and Cultes Des Gouls as the Eight of Wands of standard playing card decks. The Necronomicon Cycle establishes a fresh perspective of religion, specifically in terms of being a newly established occult temple of belief. The Cult of R'Lyeh on Earth believe that we here establish a new principle in the theory of the occult. Tim Thompson, the author, joined the Oxfordshire Branch of The Hermetic Order of The Golden Dawn at the age of twelve. He has completed studying Theology and Religious Studies at Undergraduate Level at Roehampton University, London, for which he was awarded an academic reward and an Honour.
The Secret Lives of a Secret Agent Second Edition
The Second World War Chief of MI6 said Alexander Wilson had 'remarkable gifts as a writer of fiction, and no sense of responsibility in using them!' Wilson's three year career in the Secret Intelligence Service ended when the country's spy chiefs decided his creativity got the better of his grasp of reality. His 'secret lives' extended to his private life. Four wives and four families; not necessarily one after the other. This book, along with the memoir of his third wife Alison, is the foundation of the 'Mrs Wilson' series premiered in the USA by Masterpiece on PBS in 2019. The dramatisation stars his award-winning granddaughter Ruth Wilson who plays the role of Alison. Ruth is also one of the executive producers of the series broadcast by the BBC to critical acclaim in the UK at the end of 2018 with their highest audiences for midweek drama. Tim Crook unravels more of the mysteries of this extraordinary story in the second (US/International) edition of 'Alec' Alexander Wilson's biography.

There was a time when rural comedians drew most of their humor from tales of farmers' daughters, hogs, hens, and hill country high jinks. Lum and Abner and Ma and Pa Kettle might not have toured happily under the ""Redneck"" marquee, but they were its precursors. In Ain't That a Knee-Slapper: Rural Comedy in the Twentieth Century, author Tim Hollis traces the evolution of this classic American form of humor in the mass media, beginning with the golden age of radio, when such comedians as Bob Burns, Judy Canova, and Lum and Abner kept listeners laughing. The book then moves into the motion pictures of the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, when the established radio stars enjoyed second careers on the silver screen and were joined by live-action renditions of the comic strip characters Li'l Abner and Snuffy Smith, along with the much-loved Ma and Pa Kettle series of films. Hollis explores such rural sitcoms as The Real McCoys in the late 1950s and from the 1960s, The Andy Griffith Show, The Beverly Hillbillies, Green Acres, Hee Haw, and many others. Along the way, readers are taken on side trips into the world of animated cartoons and television commercials that succeeded through a distinctly rural sense of fun. While rural comedy fell out of vogue and networks sacked shows in the early 1970s, the emergence of such hits as The Dukes of Hazzard brought the genre whooping back to the mainstream. Hollis concludes with a brief look at the current state of rural humor, which manifests itself in a more suburban, redneck brand of standup comedy. Tim Hollis is the author of numerous books, including Hi There, Boys and Girls! America's Local Children's TV Programs and (with Greg Ehrbar) Mouse Tracks: The Story of Walt Disney Records.

Take a trip around the world and discover places strange but true. "These authors are hilarious and one-of-a-kind which I discovered while I was the activities director at a seniors' center. When they came in to do a presentation on their first book they totally stole the show. It was a memorable performance which prompted a heartfelt reaction on the part of our members. - WILDLY WONDROUS WHEREABOUTS - During my introduction I shared with my group a true story that had occurred a few weeks earlier. I was in my backyard reading the Smiths' book and literally laughing out loud. How loud? So loud that my backyard neighbor heard me, came and leaned over my fence, and asked me what in the world was so funny. All I did was hold up the book and he said, 'I've seen that book and heard about that book.' While I did do a nice job of warming up the audience for them, as I said before, they truly stole the show They are as funny on the written page as they are in person, so don't say I didn't warn you' prepare yourself to absolutely love this book " - Deb Milne O'Brien

In Behold Your Mother, Tim Staples takes you through the Church's teachings about the Blessed Virgin Mary, showing their firm Scriptural and historical roots and dismantling the objections of those who mistakenly believe that Mary competes for the attention due Christ alone. Relevant and essential -- Mary matters. Read Behold Your Mother and find out just how much.

In Let Me Tell You a Story, Tim Waggoner continues what he started in the Bram Stoker Award-winning Writing in the Dark (2020) and Writing in the Dark: The Workbook (2022), both of which focus on the art of composing successful horror fiction. This latest guidebook takes a different approach, foregrounding Waggoner's prolific, decades-long career as a professional author. Partly autobiographical, partly tutorial and diagnostic, each chapter features one of Waggoner's stories followed by reflection on the historical context of publication, insightful commentary, and exercises for writers who are just learning their craft and who have already made a name for themselves. As always, Waggoner's experience, wit, and know-how shine through as he discusses and re-evaluates material from 1990 to 2018. Let Me Tell You a Story is a vital contribution to his evolving nonfictional oeuvre.
