Big Brother was watching Alastair Gamble - and they wanted him dead, but unseen forces were protecting him from harm with their magical powers. At least, that was what he believed...In Looking Out for Me, Alastair recounts his experiences with paranoia and mania. In 1993, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, but medication helped him to maintain a normal life, becoming an architect and a dedicated Buddhist. This all changed in 2014, when he suddenly left his job and his Buddhist community because he thought nearly everyone he knew was out to get him.Embarking on a spiritual journey, he was still mindful of the danger lurking in the shadows, but with determination, proper mental health care and a strong mindfulness practice, he developed a mindset of acceptance.
We All Get to Play: Growing a culture and practice of healing in the local church
In Matthew 15:22-28 Jesus describes healing and deliverance as the 'children's bread'. In other words, it is an everyday essential which no good father would withhold from his children. How much more so does our Father God want to bless us today with these gifts? Writing from his fundamental desire to close the gap between what we read in the New Testament description of Jesus and the early church's ministry and kingdom lifestyle, and our experiences as individual believers and, especially, as the family of God in our churches, Alastair Mitchell-Baker has crafted a vital foundational 'manual' for the practice and culture of healing ministry within the local church.Churches are of all types, styles and sizes. They look wonderfully and beautifully different, and so the full restoration of healing ministry will look and feel different too. Yet Jesus wants us all to be His feet and hands, His eyes, ears, and lips, to bring His restoring love and power to the people in our communities, towns, and cities. This book is designed as a resource for church leaders and members who want to see more healing and transformation in their local churches and communities. It is born of Alastair's personal journey and the experiences and teaching of his home church, The Gate, in Reading, UK.

Most books about music related topics focus on the major metropolitan centres of New York or London. Alastair MacDonald Jackson not only shifts the focus to a small country in northern Europe - Scotland -but hones in the music makers from the very peripheries of the place. With a focus on the production of music zines, where he brings his own experience into play, the book also looks at the concurrent journeys of cassette labels, independent recordings and women's involvement in the development of the Scottish independent music scene, concluding with the recent resurgence in all things DIY.Along the way, he takes the (single track) roads less travelled, exploring some of the musical back stories of the Scottish islands, with some surprising results. Did you know Sex Pistols designer Jamie Reid was living on the island of Lewis when he got the call from Malcolm McLaren? How about taking a journey to the island of Raasay where Joe Stummer's grandmother was born, or finding out about the punk album recorded on Lewis and played by John Peel, or the record label based on the Isle of Eigg...Featuring new interviews with members of The Rezillos, The Pastels, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Slits, The Bluebells, Strawberry Switchblade, Shop Assistants, Bis, The Mission, BMX Bandits, Soup Dragons, Pictish Trail, Fizzbombs, the Vaselines, Rote Kapelle, Close Lobsters & Urusei Yatsura, as well as cassette label owners and zine editors of Bam Balam, Ripped & Torn, Slow Dazzle, Juniper Beri-Beri, The Next Big Thing, Honey At The Core, Heavy Flow, Paper Bullets and more...Alastair is a writer and photographer who grew up on the Isle of Skye. He currently contributes regularly to several outdoor and travel magazines. His first book, 'The Spirit of The Hebrides' was published in 2019 and longlisted for The Highland Book Prize. His next project is a photographic journey around Orkney and Shetland.

Alastair Reid

A Scottish-born writer based in the Dominican Republic here brings together seven of his pieces that originally appeared in the New Yorker, remarkable stories about his experiences in Spain, Latin America, Scotland and New York. The subject matter ranges from the lives and works of Borges, Neruda, Gracia Marquez and Jimenez, to learning a foreign language, to the differences between living in a home of one's own and living in the houses of other people. Reid also discusses his reasons for choosing to live under the Spanish dictatorship, toward which he had a strong antipathy. "Being in Spain always felt much more like belonging to a conspiracy against the regime than like condoning it." The best known of these essays is "Digging Up Scotland," a long account of the author's return in 1980 to St. Andrew's on the North Sea with his son Jasper and friends to find a box they had buried in 1971.

When the crew of the USS Anderson first landed on Sawyers World, at Alpha Centauri, they found a strangely regular, tree-covered hill that could as easily have been a pyramid as an old volcanic plug. The geologists declared it the latter, but archeologist Hannibal Carson has reason to think that Pete's Peak may be a pyramid. But to find out, he has to talk to one of the legendary First Landers, and if he survives that, he has a dinner date with his some-time pilot and old flame Jackie Roberts.Meanwhile, Carson & Roberts's old pal Rico, who was last seen shot and left for dead on Earth, has been slowly recovering in a traumapod, and now he's woken up. He's just not sure who put him in the pod in the first place, and the people who let him out have more questions than answered. This fourth Carson & Roberts adventure follows The Eridani Convergence. And of course, there are surprises.
