Brabant heeft een lange traditie van spreekwoorden, gezegden en aforismen, wie zegt er immers nooit 'Een muur is van steen, een visgraat van been' als je iets vergeten bent? Of: 'Water vergeten - blind verbeten' wanneer iemand bijna struikelt over een losse tegel. 'Gisteren is een groene garagedeur' is ook zo'n veelgehoorde uitspraak als kwade rommel de weg verspert. Deze traditie van spreekwoorden, gezegden en aforisme gaat door tot de dag van vandaag en verder. Iedere dag worden er nieuwe ontdekt, het is dus hoog tijd voor een actuele bundeling ('Van de vloer omhoog naar de rechterkant' zou men in Brabant zeggen). Adrie Vermetten (1925-2010) zat in het grondverzet en was amateur-cultuurhistoricus. Hij publiceerde eerder Oude Brabantse spreekwoorden, gezegden en aforismen (1990) en Moderne Brabantse spreekwoorden, gezegden en aforismen (2000).

Sir Stamford Raffles came across an unnamed new species in 1821 when he was documenting natural history in Singapore. This elusive primate, the Raffles' banded langur, was later named after him.
