We Are Only Saved Together: Living the Revolutionary Vision of Dorothy Day and the Catholic Worker Movement
In an era where social media metrics dominate our sense of connection and happiness, Colin Miller presents a refreshing perspective in We Are Only Saved Together. Drawing from the rich traditions of the Catholic Worker movement, Miller illustrates how true fulfillment lies not in virtual validation but in authentic relationships, shared experiences, and the pursuit of the common good. This timely reminder shows us how the joy we are made for is found in the practice of the Gospel, in the company of others, and especially in friendship with the poor. While completing his doctoral work in theology at Duke, Miller befriended a group of homeless men who were living outside their church building. As these encounters led to conversations that led to friendships, Miller realized that the Gospel was not primarily about feeding the homeless or meeting their physical needs but about being a community, and this is the antidote to the loneliness, isolation, and emptiness that plagues our world. Along the way, he discovered Dorothy Day, Peter Maurin, and the Catholic Worker movement. Inspired by their work, he cofounded a Catholic Worker House dedicated to common prayer, material simplicity, fellowship with the poor, good work, and everyday community. This book is not a call to become a strange, marginal, or fringe Catholic; it is a call to become fully Catholic by embracing the essential traditions that have always been at the heart of the Church and finding Christ in the places he promised to meet us: in worship, in community, in the poor. Following the little way of St. Th r se of Lisieux (one of Dorothy Day's favorite saints), Miller shares practical ideas to consider when seeking to encounter Christ in these places, such as exploring the power of shared meals and feasts; reframing our encounters with people in poverty through a surprising look at the Good Samaritan parable; ideas on how to live close to the land; discerning the qualities that bring dignity to our work; and steps to embrace voluntary simplicity. We Are Only Saved Together is not about becoming a Catholic Worker; it's about becoming a disciple who discovers friendship, adventure, and joy in the Gospel. It's about pursuing a holiness so old it looks new. Are you ready for an adventure filled with meaningful friendships, community with the poor, and good works? It might not always be easy, but it is definitely worth it. Let's go

William N. Copley | Dorothy Iannone
This publication, which documents the eponymous exhibition at the Philara collection, highlights aspects of freedom, self-determination, and the ecstasy of physical love. It brings together two internationally renowned artistic perspectives: William N. Copley and Dorothy Iannone. Whereas Copley was influenced by Dadaism, Surrealism, and Pop Art, Dorothy Iannone developed a unique visual language from American Expressionism, a movement overwhelmingly male-dominated in the 1950s. Here, for the first time, the works of Copley and Iannone are being presented in juxtaposition. During their lifetimes, the two artists had few points of contact. Independently of each other, both created a highly coherent visual language that manifests parallels as well as clear differences. Transcending gender roles, stereotypes, and social norms as well as the accompanying fight against censorship are characteristic of Iannone’s pictures; Copley, on the other hand, selected depictions whose formulaic strictness and exaggeration of gender roles demonstrate a deeply ambiguous sense of humour to the point of absurdity.

The letters of Dorothy Percy Sidney, Countess of Leicester, dating predominantly from about 1636 until 1643, cover a wide range of issues and vividly illustrate her centrality to her illustrious family's personal and public affairs. These c.100 letters are here for the first time fully transcribed and edited. The edition includes a biographical and historical introduction, setting the context of the Sidneys' family and political activities at the time of Dorothy's marriage to Robert in 1615 and then tracing the major events and involvements of her life until her death in 1659. A key to the cipher used in the letters to disguise identities of individuals is also supplied. Following the introduction is the complete text of each of Dorothy Percy Sidney's letters to her husband, Robert, second Earl of Leicester, and to and from William Hawkins, the Sidney family solicitor, along with several others, including letters from Dorothy to Archbishop Laud and the Earl of Holland. Her husband's account of her last moments in 1659, and testamentary directions relating to her will, are also included. The letters are arranged in chronological order and supported by a series of footnotes that elucidate their historical context and briefly to identify key individuals, places, political issues and personal concerns. These notes are further supported by selective quotations from Dorothy's incoming correspondence and other related letters and documents. A glossary supplies more detailed information on 'Persons and Places.' Dorothy Percy Sidney's letters eloquently convey how, even with her undoubted personal potency and shrewd intelligence, the multifaceted roles expected of an able and determined aristocratic early modern Englishwoman-especially when her husband was occupied abroad on official business-were intensely demanding and testing.
