Predictive Crime Analysis using R is Dr. Strickland's second crime analysis book. In this volume, rather than using data to describe crime history, he uses it to predict crime using pattern created with advanced clustering methods, crime series linkage, and text analysis. Coverage includes prediction of conventional crime and terrorist attacks. The open-source software R is introduced and used in developing crime data, including Geo-spatial data, and constructing predictive models and performing post analysis. Using actual crime data from cities like Atlanta, Dr. Strickland also shows how to simulate additional data from actual data. Simulated data can then be used in cities with insufficient actual data, but with similar demographics and human behavior.

Arizona Territory, 1881. Having left cattle-war-torn Wyoming the year before, Tom Keene has now found supposed tranquility for his family in the once sleepy town of Tombstone. Swirling around his bright future as a rancher, however, is a growing struggle between outlaw elements in the area and Wyatt Earp and his brothers, who have vowed to bring them to account for their crimes. Try as he might to remain only an observer, Keene is eventually drawn into the conflict with unforeseen consequences.
Redefining Justice: The Art of Listening
A collection of poetry written with thought-provoking enthusiasm. It continues like some of my other poetry books with spiritual themes. There are also romantic poems and other conversations concerning life today, i.e. politics, money, gender bias, race, and social media. Over the past two years, I have put together these words as I observed changes in our country that I have never seen in my 64 years. It is not unusual, but more revealing than ever. I believe we should take careful note, seeing it as it is and not as a new trend. History repeats and the old become the new, while few patterns change! There is a need for a different thinking and a renewed value system that works for all!

This book unpacks the tension between free speech and the social justice priority to support all students. Drawing on court cases, institutional policies and procedures, and notable campus practices, this book answers the question: How do campus leaders develop interests of social justice and create a campus that is inclusive and inviting of all identities while also respecting students’ free speech rights? This useful guide provides insights about the myriad of challenges that campus leaders have faced, along with practical approaches to address these issues on their own campuses. Experts Sun and McClellan interrogate the assumptions, thoughts, events, rules, and actions often at-play when free expression clashes with a college’s mission of diversity, inclusion, and social justice. This book helpfully guides campus leaders to consider a series of legal frameworks and promising policies as solutions for balancing social justice and free speech.

Divine Action, Determinism, and the Laws of Nature
A longstanding question at the intersection of science, philosophy, and theology is how God might act, or not, when governing the universe. Many believe that determinism would prevent God from acting at all, since to do so would require violating the laws of nature. However, when a robust view of these laws is coupled with the kind of determinism now used in dynamics, a new model of divine action emerges. This book presents a new approach to divine action beyond the current focus on quantum mechanics and esoteric gaps in the causal order. It bases this approach on two general points. First, that there are laws of nature is not merely a metaphor. Second, laws and physical determinism are now understood in mathematically precise ways that have important implications for metaphysics. The explication of these two claims shows not only that nonviolationist divine action is possible, but there is considerably more freedom available for God to act than current models allow.By bringing a philosophical perspective to an issue often dominated by theologians and scientists, this text redresses an imbalance in the discussion around divine action. It will, therefore, be of keen interest to scholars of Philosophy and Religion, the Philosophy of Science, and Theology.

The United States and Genocide

The United States and Genocide

Jeffrey Bachman

Routledge
2019
nidottu
There exists a dominant narrative that essentially defines the US’ relationship with genocide through what the US has failed to do to stop or prevent genocide, rather than through how its actions have contributed to the commission of genocide. This narrative acts to conceal the true nature of the US’ relationship with many of the governments that have committed genocide since the Holocaust, as well as the US’ own actions. In response, this book challenges the dominant narrative through a comprehensive analysis of the US’ relationship with genocide. The analysis is situated within the broader genocide studies literature, while emphasizing the role of state responsibility for the commission of genocide and the crime’s ancillary acts. The book addresses how a culture of impunity contributes to the resiliency of the dominant narrative in the face of considerable evidence that challenges it. Bachman’s narrative presents a far darker relationship between the US and genocide, one that has developed from the start of the Genocide Convention’s negotiations and has extended all the way to present day, as can be seen in the relationships the US maintains with potentially genocidal regimes, from Saudi Arabia to Myanmar. This book will be of interest to scholars, postgraduates, and students of genocide studies, US foreign policy, and human rights. A secondary readership may be found in those who study international law and international relations.

Routledge

Young Children’s Play: Development, Disabilities, and Diversity is an accessible, comprehensive introduction to play and development from birth to age 8 years that introduces readers to various play types and strategies and helps them determine when intervention might be needed. Skillfully addressing both typically developing children and those with special needs in a single volume, this book covers dramatic play, blocks, games, motor play, artistic play, and non-traditional play forms, such as humor, rough and tumble play, and more. Designed to support contemporary classrooms, this text deliberately interweaves practical strategies for understanding and supporting the play of children with specific disabilities (e.g. autism, Down syndrome, or physically challenging conditions) and those of diverse cultural backgrounds into every chapter. In sections divided by age group, Trawick-Smith explores strategies for engaging children with specific special needs, multicultural backgrounds, and incorporating adult–child play and play intervention. Emphasizing diversity in play behaviors, each chapter includes vignettes featuring children’s play and teacher interactions in classrooms to illustrate core concepts in action. Filled with research-based applications for professional practice, this text is an essential resource for students of early childhood and special education, as well as teachers and coaches supporting early grades or inclusive classrooms.
