The Life of Sir Joshua Reynolds, Ll.D., F.R.S., F.S.A., etc., Late President of the Royal Academy: Volume 1
A fellow Devonian, James Northcote (1746–1831) was an admirer and pupil of Sir Joshua Reynolds, whose two-volume biography he published in 1813–15. Reissued here is the 'revised and augmented' second edition of 1818. Northcote is self-deprecating as to his fitness for the task, but claims that a worthy biography of a great artist can be written only by another artist, and his close personal knowledge of his subject and the circle in which Reynolds moved gives him insights, as well as providing anecdotes, which would not be available to a more 'professional' author. Volume 1 covers the first fifty years of Reynolds' life, and includes accounts of Reynolds' development as an artist, his growing fame, the founding of the Royal Academy and the first six of his Discourses on Art (also reissued in this series), which Northcote defends against claims that they were not written by Reynolds himself.
The Life of Sir Joshua Reynolds, Ll.D., F.R.S., F.S.A., etc., Late President of the Royal Academy: Volume 2
A fellow Devonian, James Northcote (1746–1831) was an admirer and pupil of Sir Joshua Reynolds, whose two-volume biography he published in 1813–15. Reissued here is the 'revised and augmented' second edition of 1818. Volume 2 covers the remainder of Reynolds' life, including a description of his elaborate funeral and various assessments of his work, as well as details of the sale of his paintings, and a short account of the life of William Gandy, an obscure seventeenth-century painter whom Reynolds greatly admired.

This book is a learning tool of which any age group can use to their advantage of understanding the preparations of which this world began. Joshua is known as the loin of great courage. He was chosen to continue the journey of Moses through the commandment of God. Teaching others the wondrous works of God continually is to help in future purposes. Do we know our purpose of why we are here. Do we really know our ancestry tree of life. To understand the powerful leadership in Joshua and why he was chosen to do the task of the Lord, is to read and study. Joshua was to keep the knowledge of faith in the hands of the children of Israel. History tells us, we need to continue to place before us the faith and trust in the commandments of God, and apply them to our lives. because there is a judgement day. the world and everything in it belongs to God. learning, teaching, applying is three of the key words we need to use to share the word of God, and understand why the chosen ones were able to be used.
Studies in Joshua, Judges, & Ruth
The book of Joshua continues the history of the children of Israel following Moses' death - when the Lord placed Joshua in charge of His people. The book of Judges records the downward spiral of the children of Israel as they transitioned from the leadership of Joshua, through various judges, to anarchy! The book of Ruth is a lovely little book which tells the story of Ruth, a Moabitess who was redeemed and brought into the family of the Lord God of Israel by a near kinsman, Boaz. Joshua and Judges are chronological history books. The events in Ruth occur about 100 years after the time of the judges. There are many similarities between life in the days of these books, and life in 21st Century society. These three books present many valuable lessons applicable to people today!
