In the aftermath of the ousting of dictatorial regimes in 2011, the fragile political and security situations in Tunisia and Libya have contributed to the emergence of new threats that menace the stability of both countries and of their neighbors. Severe terrorist incidents have become frequent throughout the region. To name but one incident, the borders that Algeria shares with those two countries exposed it to a major terrorist attack on the Tiguentourine gas facility in January 2013. The existence and recognition of common threats has prompted military-to-military cooperation among most, but not all, North African countries. Algeria, a country with a sizable military capability, has started working closely with its neighbor countries to reduce terrorist threats. Over the last 3 years, Algeria and Tunisia in particular have intensified their military cooperation to tackle terrorist groups in Tunisia and fight against illicit trafficking across their respective borders.

A GUARDIAN BOOK OF THE YEAR'A thrilling, razor-sharp critique of US foreign policy … Red Birds is an incisive, unsparing critique of war and of America’s role in the destruction of the Middle East. It combines modern and ancient farcical traditions in thrilling way' Guardian________________American pilot Major Ellie has crashed his plane in the middle of a desert. Lucky for him there’s room for him at the very refugee camp he was supposed to bomb. Teenage Momo doesn’t see it that way: the camp is a trap, not a refuge. His brother’s missing, his parents are in a rage, and an aid worker won’t stop trying to interview him for her book on the Teenage Muslim Mind. Savage, irreverent and deliciously dark, Red Birds is a masterful unravelling of intertwined fates in a forgotten war-scape – and a brilliant satire about satire about the absurdity of war and the impossibility of peace.'Funny, dark, compassionate and angry' Daily Telegraph'The funniest tragedy I've read in years' Hanif Kureishi'A blistering, savage, tragicomic satire about the cruelty of war and the impossibility of peace' The Times

Geospatial information modeling and mapping has become an important tool for the investigation and management of natural resources at the landscape scale. Spatial Statistics: GeoSpatial Information Modeling and Thematic Mapping reviews the types and applications of geospatial information data, such as remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), and GPS as well as their integration into landscape-scale geospatial statistical models and maps. The book explores how to extract information from remotely sensed imagery, GIS, and GPS, and how to combine this with field data—vegetation, soil, and environmental—to produce a spatial model that can be reconstructed and displayed using GIS software. Readers learn the requirements and limitations of each geospatial modeling and mapping tool. Case studies with real-life examples illustrate important applications of the models.Topics covered in this book include: An overview of the geospatial information sciences and technology and spatial statistics Sampling methods and applications, including probability sampling and nonrandom sampling, and issues to consider in sampling and plot design Fine and coarse scale variability Spatial sampling schemes and spatial pattern Linear and spatial correlation statistics, including Moran’s I, Geary’s C, cross-correlation statistics, and inverse distance weighting Geospatial statistics analysis using stepwise regression, ordinary least squares (OLS), variogram, kriging, spatial auto-regression, binary classification trees, cokriging, and geospatial models for presence and absence data How to use R statistical software to work on statistical analyses and case studies, and to develop a geospatial statistical model The book includes practical examples and laboratory exercises using ArcInfo, ArcView, ArcGIS, and other popular software for geospatial modeling. It is accessible to readers from various fields, without requiring advanced knowledge of geospatial information sciences or quantitative methods.

By the end of the 18th century, the British Empire was trying hard to spread its power and imperialism all around the world. They had been defeated by the American troops in the battle of York Town so after losing American colonies, they started to pay more attention towards Indian colonies which were being controlled by Muslims (including present day's Pakistan and Bangladesh) at that time. (Present day India is under the control of Hindus.) The English had arrived in India at the beginning of 17th century for business and trade purposes. As time passed, they started to settle down and built trade offices in different cities of India. Unfortunately, the Muslim Empire of India which had been controlling India since 1292 had started falling into pieces after the death of the great Mughal Emperor 'Aurangzabe'. Taking advantage of this, the British East India Company started to think about occupying India. They introduced the worst political theory of that century 'Divide and Rule'. They tried their best to make different states fight against each other and in order to get it done, they used religion, castes, class differences and language differences as their tools. Land area wise, India was a huge country at that time. By the end of 1760, the British East India Company had occupied almost one-fourth of the Indian territories but the next 40 years were the toughest years of the history of British Empire. The book revolves around those 40 years. Based on author's 5 years extensive research, the book throws light on the life of the king 'Tipu Sultan' the greatest freedom fighter and perhaps the most brave and noble king not only in the history of Indian sub-continent but also in the history of Muslims since the advent of Islam who posed a grave threat to the British power to drive them out of his homeland idealizing the unity of Americans against the British which led to the independence of United States. The British became the masters of the world after occupying Indi

Incomplete Texts strives to encapsulate man's ordeal on this earth along with the story of the very beginning of creation in thirty short poems. How will we meet doomsday? What makes life what it is? Incomplete Texts is a collection of poems, essays and thoughts that reveal the author's perspective on the secrets of life and the unlocked feelings that memories of the past raise when they collide with the reality of the present and the fear of the unknown future. The chemistry of happiness Do not seize life With struggle and strife. Let pass of it Without even a greet Like a woman, a stranger, We only wish we capture. Among all things, the prettier Leave in our memory a flower. Do not seize delight O beast, O hurt Your prey is prettier before It is eaten and killed, far more, Spend your time just watching Behind that wall of timing Pray for the wheat for the smell Of the rain over there where you dwell. Share with the whisper of the wind The delightful weddings that had passed. Nations told nations and their speech spread That the earth is round like a loaf of bread; And that crying, like laughter, Is a moment following the other...

The Rewriting of History in Postcolonial Francophone Literatures
How Shiites Won the Battle Against Islamic State

How Shiites Won the Battle Against Islamic State

The 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq inadvertently changed the balance of power in favor of the Shiite community in Iraq and beyond. How Shiites Won the Battle Against Islamic State: Kurds and Sunnis in Iraq sheds light on how the Shiite-dominated government’s sectarian policies deepened the divide between Iraq’s major communities (Shiites, Sunni Arabs, and the Kurds) and led the country on the path of unending sectarian violence. This book explains how the government’s failure to address Sunni Arab grievances led to the emergence of the radical Islamic State and convinced the Kurds that they could not coexist with Iraqi Arabs, who had been at each other’s throats since 2003. This book notes that the emergence of a Shiite-dominated government in Baghdad was a historical event that led Iran to achieve its longstanding dream of extending its influence from Tehran to Baghdad, Damascus, and Beirut. How Shiites Won the Battle Against Islamic State places a special focus on how Shiite politicians’ slick diplomacy and media campaigns diverted attention from its sectarian policies in 2014 by labeling the Sunni Arabs as terrorists and Kurdish leaders as corrupt separatists and troublemakers. This book also uncovers how the Iraqi government was able to garner Western military and political support to defeat ISIS and derail the Kurdish statehood movement.

A comprehensive introduction to the life and thought of one of the Islamic intellectual tradition's most original and profound authors.Inrushes of the Heart delves deeply into the life and thought of 'Ayn al-Qu?at Hamadani (d. 525/1131), a major Muslim philosopher, Sufi master, and religious judge who was executed by the Seljuq government at the age of thirty-four. Mohammed Rustom presents nearly eight hundred passages in translation (most of which appear here for the first time in English) from 'Ayn al-Qu?at's Arabic and Persian writings alongside a step-by-step commentary that outlines every major theme that guides his worldview. Contextualizing 'Ayn al-Qu?at's life, influence, and self-perception as a teacher and scholar extraordinaire, the book then carefully unpacks his highly original teachings on God, cosmology, human agency, spiritual practice, imagination, death, knowledge, scripture, beauty, and love.
