One of romance's best-loved authors, Sandra Brown creates love stories whose "larger than life heroes and heroines make you believe all the warm, wonderful, wild things in life."* Now the New York Times bestselling author delivers a powerfully erotic and deeply moving tale of a woman reunited with her first and only love—a man who wants what she denied him ten years ago....In A Class By ItselfDani Quinn knew Logan Webster would be at her high school reunion. Yet she had come in order to prove to herself that she was not afraid to see him again. Her departure years before from both Logan and the small Texas town where they were sweethearts had been abrupt, painful, and not of her choosing. Worst of all, she'd never had the chance to tell Logan the truth of why she had to leave. Now she would not only have a chance to explain, but to ask him for a favor. Handsome, charming, and dangerously charismatic, Logan exudes all the power and confidence of a self-made success. He listens as Dani describes her work for a charitable foundation and expresses her hope that he will donate one of his properties for a much-needed summer camp. Logan agrees, but with one shocking proviso: that Dani fulfill the intimate promise she made to him years ago. It is meant to be a coldhearted business transaction...but this time when Dani is once again compelled to leave without an explanation, nothing can keep Logan from following. *Rendezvous

With forty-four New York Times bestselling novels to her credit, Sandra Brown is one of romance's best-loved authors. She has been hailed by Rendezvous magazine as an author whose "larger than life heroes and heroines make you believe all the warm, wonderful, wild things in life." Sexy, funny, and wonderfully romantic, here is the unforgettably sensuous story of a woman too smart to fall in love -- and the man determined to prove her wrong. Thursday's ChildAllison Leamon knew that pretending to be her identical twin sister was a bad idea. For although the two redheads looked exactly alike, they couldn't be more different. How could a no-nonsense scientist like Allison possibly fool anyone into thinking that she was the bubbly, vivacious Annie? Trading her sensible shoes for strappy sandals, her eyeglasses for contacts, and her lab smock for a chiffon dress, Allison was determined to try her best. Her first challenge was a dinner date with Annie's fianc , Davis. But what Allison didn't expect was the presence of Davis's best friend. Allison was far too logical to believe in love at first sight, but there was nothing logical about the way she was responding to Spencer Raft. The dark-haired, blue-eyed mystery man had an assurance that Allison found positively maddening. And by the end of the evening, she couldn't help feeling that Spencer had been attracted to a carefully constructed illusion. She was certain that the handsome adventurer wouldn't give her a second look if he knew her as she really was. But Spencer Raft was a man of many talents -- and seeing below the surface of things was one of them. He sensed the flesh-and-blood woman beneath the elaborate charade, and after years of wandering the world in search of excitement, he knew he had finally found what he had been looking for. But first this incurable romantic had to convince an intractable skeptic that there was more to love than what she could study in a laboratory. And what better way than to propose a passionate experiment of his own? On board his yacht, Spencer and Allison would fulfill their wildest fantasies and deepest desires; but when their blissful idyll was over, would it all prove to be no more than a pleasant interlude -- or the real thing?

Chapter One“Ms. Cassidy, dear?”“Yes?”“So sorry, darling, but your table simply isn’t large enough.”“Damn,” Brin muttered under her breath as she struggled with the zipper at the back of her dress. She twisted around to check in the mirror what was causing it to stick. When she turned, an electric curler slid out of her hair, leaving a heavy strand to fall over her eye. She shoved it off her face, looping it around one of the hair-curler pins that radiated from her head like a space-age halo. “Arrange everything as best you can, Stewart. Has the bartender arrived yet?”“I have arranged everything as best I can,” he said petulantly. “You need a larger table.”Brin’s arms fell heavily to her sides. Glancing at the harried image in the mirror, one eye artfully made up, the other as yet untouched, she called herself a fool for hostessing this party in the first place. She had timed everything down to the second. She didn’t need any kinks in the tight schedule, such as a stuck zipper and a querulous caterer.Turning, she flung open the bathroom door and confronted Stewart, who stood with his pale hands on his hips, wearing an expression just as sour as hers.“I don’t have a larger table,” Brin said irritably. “Let’s see what we can do. Is the bartender here yet?” On stocking feet she hurried through the bedroom, down the stairs, and into the dining room, where a buffet was being set up. Her dress was slipping off her shoulders, but then, there was no need to be too concerned aboutmodesty in front of Stewart. Two of his assistants were standing by, arms crossed idly over their chests, as though waiting for a bus. She shot them exasperated looks that didn’t faze them in the slightest.“Jackie said he’d be here by now,” Stewart said of the missing bartender. “I can’t imagine what’s keeping him. We’re extremely close.”“Why doesn’t that make me feel better?”Brin spoke the question under her breath as she studied the table. The food on the silver trays was attractively arranged and lavishly garnished, but the trays were jammed together, overlapping in places. Some extended over the edges of the table. Stewart might be difficult and aggravating, but he knew his stuff, and she couldn’t argue with him. “You’re right, we’ll have to do some rearranging.”“It’s that ghastly centerpiece,” Stewart said, pointing with distaste. “You should have let me select the flowers. Remember I told you — ”“I remember, I remember, but I wanted to choose my own florist.”“Can’t we remove the thing? Or at least let me rearrange it so it isn’t so ... so...” He made a descriptive gesture with his hands.“You’re not to touch it. I paid a hundred dollars for it.”“You get what you pay for,” he said snidely. She faced him angrily, hooking the errant strand of hair around another pin when it slipped from the first. “This has nothing to do with money. The florist happens to be a friend of mine, and she’s been in the business longer than you’ve been alive.”I must be agitated, Brin thought. Why am I standing here arguing with smug Stewart, when I’m only half dressed and forty guests are due to arrive at any moment? She returned her attention to the crowded table. “Can you leave some of the trays in the kitchen and replace the ones on the table as they empty?”Stewart’s hand fluttered to his chest and his mouth fell open in horror. “Absolutely not! My darling, these dishes are planned to alternately soothe and excite the palate. They’re a blend of tart and — ”“Oh, for heaven’s sake!” Brin cried. “Who will know in what order their palates are supposed to be soothed or excited? These people will just want to eat. I doubt they’ll pay attention to anything except whether the food tastes good or not.”Gnawing her cheek in concentration, she scanned the table again. “All right,” she said, her mind made up, “set that bowl of marinated shrimp on the coffee table in the living room. Have a cup of toothpicks nearby. And you,” she said, pointing to one of the indolent assistants, “move that cheese tray over there by the bar. I think there’s room for that chafing dish of Swedish meatballs on the table by the sofa. That should make room on the table.”The three young men rolled their eyes at one another. “You’re a gastronomical philistine of the worst sort,” Stewart said snippishly.“Just do it. And where’s that bartender you promised me? Nothing’s set up.”“He’ll be here.”“Well, he’d better be here soon, or I’m going to start deducting from your bill.”The doorbell chimed. “See?” Stewart said loftily. “No cause for panic. That’s him now.” He swished toward the front door before Brin had a chance to.“Who are you?” The disembodied voice asking the rude question was deep and demanding.Brin recognized the voice immediately and felt the earth drop out from under her.“Oh my dear, I’m positively dying!” Stewart cried theatrically, his hands aflutter. “I can’t believe it. She didn’t tell me you would be among the party guests.”“What the hell are you talking about? What party?” the voice asked in a surly growl. “Where’s Brin?”She forced herself into motion and went toward the door, stepping in the line of vision of the man standing on the threshold. “Thank you, Stewart,” she said quietly. “I believe you have work to do.”She was amazed at how calm she sounded. On the inside, chaos reigned: Her vital organs were doing backward somersaults; her knees had turned the consistency of Stewart’s famous tomato aspic; all the blood had drained from her head. But outwardly she presented a facade of aloofness that should have won her an Oscar at least. After Stewart had moved out of earshot, she looked at the man. “What are you doing here, Riley?”“Just thought I’d drop by.” He propped his shoulder against the doorjamb and let his eyes — damn those blue eyes — drift over her. He seemed amused by the curlers in her hair, the unfastened dress she was having a hard time keeping up, and her stockinged feet.“Well, you should have called before you came, because you couldn’t have picked a more inconvenient time. You’ll have to excuse me. I have guests due to arrive in a few minutes. I haven’t finished my makeup — ”“That’s not a kinky new fad? Making up just one eye?”“ — or touched my hair,” she finished, ignoring his teasing. “The bartender hasn’t shown up yet. And the caterer is being a colossal pain.”“Sounds like you need help.” He shoved his way in- side before Brin could stammer a protest. “You guys have everything under control?” he asked the three caterers, who were staring at him in awe.“Everything’s perfect, absolutely perfect, Mr. Riley,” Stewart gushed. “Can we get you anything?”“Riley,” Brin ground out between her teeth.“Hmm?” He turned around, supremely unconcerned a

The author of forty-five New York Times bestselling novels, Sandra Brown is one of the romance world's most acclaimed writers. Rendezvous magazine has praised her as a novelist whose "larger than life heroes and heroines make you believe all the warm, wonderful, wild things in life." Now, in the classic romantic tradition her fans have come to love, here is another sexy and extraordinary tale of passion--the story of a woman who gives up fame and fortune...and discovers true love in the last place she expected to find it. The Rana Look The modeling world called it the Rana Look...the exotic, one-of-a-kind allure that only supermodel Rana Ramsey could deliver. With her green eyes, olive skin, and wildly lustrous auburn hair, Rana posed for ad campaigns and strutted down runways all over the world, naming her own price to sell everything from cosmetics to women's lingerie. But all of that suddenly ended one day when she looked her demanding mother-manager in the eye and said, "Enough." That was the day Rana packed her things and left New York--and modeling--forever. Settling in Miss Ruby's boardinghouse in Galveston, Texas, Rana finds success with her own busines--and cultivates a new look to go with her new life. Now her beautiful eyes are shielded behind tinted glasses, her famous figure hidden under shapeless dresses, her trademark wild hair falling straight down her back. Rana knows she'll never attract a man this way, and that's just fine with her--that is, until Ruby's nephew, football star Trent Gamblin, moves in to nurse his injured shoulder. Ruggedly handsome, charming, and undeniably charismatic, Trent is the kind of man that Rana finds irresistible...the kind of man she is certain would never look twice at a woman as ordinary as the new Rana. But to her surprise, Trent seems unfazed by her Plain Jane look. For he is drawn to a beauty that Rana can't hide. He is determined to learn the mystery behind the elusive, reclusive boarder with the secret past. To do so, he proposes an unusual pact: they will only be friends, nothing more.As the days pass, Rana and Trent are drawn together in a sensual idyll unlike anything either of them has ever known. But the outside world cannot be kept at bay forever. And Rana fears that when Trent learns the truth about her past, he'll feel betrayed and deceived. Even worse, he'll never be able to see her as she truly is. Then an unexpected tragedy strikes, and the stakes seem higher than ever. Now they must look deep into each other's heart to determine if their relationship is just an impossibly erotic dream--or a dream of love come true.

It was the publicity stunt from hell as far as Kirsten Rumm was concerned. She may have been writing the book about her late husband, aeronautical daredevil Demon Rumm, but she didn't see the need to play host to the arrogant bad-boy actor starring in the film version's title role. Still, for the good of the project, Kirsten agreed to share her beachfront home with the impossibly sexy screen idol. Any other woman would do anything to be in her sandals, but Kirsten wasn't falling for Rylan North, even if he did play his role of male lead to perfection. His down-home charm, his gentleness and virile charisma, might be seducing her in every sense of the word, but he was an actor, after all. Seducing an audience was his job. Rylan could have any woman he wanted. So why was he so desperately pretending to want her? From the moment he saw her, Rylan North knew that Kirsten Rumm was the woman he'd been waiting all his life to cast as the star in his real-life love story. What did it matter if he was every woman's fantasy if he couldn't get Kirsten to so much as glance his way? He'd caught the look of past hurt behind her sky-blue eyes-a dark secret that shadowed the sparkle. Rylan was determined to find out what tragedy held this passionate woman back from a second chance at love even if it cost him his reputation, his career, and his life. But first he'd have to get Kirsten to act on her instincts . . . and to trust the flesh-and-blood man behind the fantasy.

Orchids fascinate. Parts of the orchid flower have shapes unlike any other flowering plant, and the sheer number of species means that their variety is seemingly endless, with an ability to interbreed and create ever more fantastical forms. Extraordinary Orchids reveals some of the bizarre life-styles and interactions that botanists have uncovered amongst different categories of orchids: the epiphytic orchids, the ground-dwelling ones, the insect-mimicking ones and those whose lifestyles are so closely bound to their interactions with insects and birds. Many orchid common names refer to the shape-shifting forms of the orchid flower - the 'man-orchids' or 'monkey orchids' are so called because of their resemblance to the primate form. Orchids lend themselves to depiction, and botanical artworks of them abound. Who could resist painting or drawing such intriguing shapes? Sandra Knapp examines each category of orchid in turn and all are illustrated with stunning artwork from artists such as Ferdinand and Franz Bauer, Arthur Harry Church, Sydney Parkinson, Henry Fletcher Hance, John Russell Reeves, and images taken from James Bateman's The Orchidaceae of Mexico and Guatemala.

The Body As Property indicates that physical disfigurement functioned in biblical law to verify legal property acquisition, when changes in the status of dependents were formalized. It is based on the reality the cuneiform script, in particular, was developed in Sumer and Mesopotamia for the purpose of record keeping: to provide legal proof of ownership where the inscription of a tablet evidenced the sale, or transfer, of property. Legitimate property acquisition was as important in biblical law, where physical disfigurements marked dependents, in a similar way that the veil or the head covering identified a wife or concubine in ancient Assyrian and Judean societies. This is primarily substantiated in the accounts of prescriptive disfigurements: namely circumcision and the piercing of a slave's ear, both of which were required only when a son, or slave, was acquired permanently. It is further argued that legal entitlement was relevant also to the punitive disfigurements recorded in Exodus 21:22-24, and Deuteronomy 25:11-12, where the physical violation of women was of concern solely as an infringement of male property rights.

She Had Been a Tomboy: Raising A Transgender Child, A Mother's Journey is a bold, emotional, and eye-opening memoir about a child guarding a secret identity and a mother who spends two and a half decades in search of answers for "his" anguish. With the early birth of her "son" in 1987, author Sandra Bowman and her family grow up during a time when little is known about being transgender. This, coupled with the reality that her child is a "typical" boy in both body and expression, renders it impossible for her to see her son for what he truly is-her daughter.Through poetic, raw, and honest prose, Sandra presents a complex and illuminating narrative that lays bare her years of confusion and her enduring efforts to "fix" what is troubling her child.Passing through the tumultuous pubescent years and ending in young adulthood, She Had Been a Tomboy is an account of a transgender experience like none other in print today. It is one of struggle and continuous uncertainty, fear and heartache-but in the end it is a story of recovery.
