The Complete Letters of Vincent Van Gogh
The letters of Vincent van Gogh lay bare the events of his dramatic life, providing remarkable insight into the creative process, and touching revelations of his personal anguish. They are reproduced in these three volumes with over 200 ink drawings that the artist sketched into them. Most of the letters were sent between 1872 and 1890 to the artist's brother, Theo, and it was Theo's son, Vincent W. van Gogh, who acted as consulting editor for this publication. A memoir by Theo's wife serves as the introduction.

A beautifully illustrated exploration of the artistic and personal connections between Matthew Wong (1984–2019) and Vincent van Gogh. Shortly before his early death, the Chinese-Canadian artist Matthew Wong (1984–2019) emerged as a phenomenon. He started drawing and painting in 2011, at the age of 27, and within the space of just a few years had developed a highly personal style, using intense colours to paint imaginative landscapes. Wong’s expressively lyrical works were inspired by both traditional Chinese painting and Western art. He was especially influenced by Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890), not only in terms of his painting style and choice of motifs, but also in some aspects of his life. Both artists were self-taught, acquiring their drawing and painting skills without tuition, and both faced mental health issues. Wong saw his own life reflected in that of Van Gogh, and once said: ‘I see myself in him. The impossibility of belonging in this world.’ Published to accompany the exhibition at the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, this book explores the artistic and personal connection between the two artists, bringing around 45 paintings and drawings by Wong into dialogue with a group of Van Gogh masterpieces. Kenny Schachter, who knew Matthew Wong, contributes a personal introduction, which is followed by essays exploring the artists’ biographical and artistic kinship.

The Murder of Vincent van Gogh There is one incontrovertible fact, Vincent van Gogh (the famous and infamous 19th century painter) was shot and died. Was Vincent van Gogh murdered? That question can only be answered with logical supposition: when it is impossible to prove the truth or untruth of a thing then truth matters little. Therefore, what is known as the truth could be a lie and, contrary-wise, what is believed a lie may prove Truth. Let us begin this tale where all good murders begin: a body. Not Vincent van Gogh's, but a woman's. The Year: 1879. The place: Le Chat Noir...

Vincent is a privileged introvert navigating his formative years at two elite Manhattan private schools in the late-2000s. He plays sports, acts, ballroom dances, and lives a teenage life of which many would dream. But as eighth grade comes to a close, Vincent will be moving from a suit-and-tie single-sex education to an easygoing, co-ed high school. His future goals consist of finding his first girlfriend, making a large group of friends, and figuring out what he wants to do for a career. Yet, his neurotic and rigid nature, troubling familial relationships, and inherent cowardice make growing up in this world exceedingly tricky and painful. The Venerable Vincent Beattie is stylistically similar to some classic, early 20th-century fiction, but the story is told through a contemporary filter, where texting, Blackberrys, Facebook, Instagram, Skype, and the 2000s' famed music and pop culture are a focal point. This relatable story occasionally cuts away from the narrative to show what music a character is listening to, along with pages of solely texted conversations. It combines the tried-and-true formula of the coming-of-age novel with updates from the new millennium, creating a fascinatingly unique reading experience.

Walking with Father Vincent is a montage of anecdotes, clippings, thoughts and insights centering around the remarkable life of Father Vincent McNabb, OP, (d. 1943), an Irishman from Portaferry, County Down, and perhaps the best-known Dominican Friar of the twentieth century. A fixture on the streets of London for decades, Father Vincent was an ascetic and a prophet, a theologian and a writer, a teacher and a preacher, a debater and a Thomist and, to many, quite simply a saint. Yes, Father Vincent was unusual-in holiness, in learning, in love, and even in appearance. G. K. Chesterton said of him "nobody who ever met or saw or heard Father McNabb has ever forgotten him."Written in brief, readable segments by Father Vincent's great-grandnephew, an American Lay Dominican and writer, who infuses his own experiences and gives great insight into the role of family-the McNabb family, and the family in general-Walking with Father Vincent details a remarkable life, while presenting remedies for some of our contemporary problems. Through the vehicle of Father Vincent's legendary walking, the author invites the reader to accompany them both, as he highlights the timeless truth and prophetic insight his uncle preached about, wrote about, and lived so dramatically. Walking with Father Vincent is a story needed now more than ever, a story of great personal holiness and devotion, a life of love fostered in a deeply Catholic home, a life lived with joy and vigor, bravely, and unflinchingly, for the purpose of saving souls, and in defense of eternal Christian Truth.

Cartulaire de Saint-Vincent de Mâcon

Cartulaire de Saint-Vincent de Mâcon

Edited by Marie Camille Ragut (1797–1870), long-serving archivist in the library of Mâcon in Bourgogne, this cartulary is a collection of local records detailing day-to-day life in medieval France. This version was published in 1864 following Ragut's discovery of an authentic copy in the Mâcon archives, the original long since destroyed in religious riots. The book contains 633 charters that span a period of six centuries, including records on the topography, customs, people, and the rise of the feudal system in Mâcon. Dating from 593 to 1220, the ancient documents are reproduced in their original Latin and are supplemented with French annotations. Ragut's meticulous editorial additions contextualize the medieval documents, particularly her comprehensive introduction which situates the records within a more general history of the region. Detailed and fascinating, this cartulary provides an invaluable insight into the local history of the Mâconnais district.
