Arun Joshi ist der bedeutendste Romanautor der indischen englischen Belletristik. Er besuchte die Schulen in Indien und den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika. Er besch ftigte sich uneigenn tzig mit der inneren Krise des Individuums und konzentrierte sich auf die Probleme des Selbst wie Entfremdung, Distanz und existenzielle Dilemmata. Obwohl er seine Errungenschaften auf wissenschaftlichen und industriellen Gebieten erzielt hat, ist er sehr daran interessiert, die innere Krise der Individuen zu kennen und dar ber zu schreiben. 1957 hatte er f r eine kurze Zeit einen Einsatz in einer psychiatrischen Klinik in den Vereinigten Staaten, wo sein Onkel Psychiater war. Dort bekam er die Gelegenheit, das menschliche Verhalten zu studieren. Dann war sein sensibler Verstand so sehr beeindruckt, dass er wollte, dass seine Hauptprotagonisten ein Innenleben innerhalb der inneren Welt der Seele beschreiben, die gegen sich selbst gespalten ist, ihre Bestrebungen und widerspr chlichen Triebe auf den Willen und das Handeln gerichtet. Das ist der Grund, warum in seinem Herzen etwas tiefer liegt als Empathie f r solche Figuren.

Arun Joshi is the most significant novelist in Indian English fiction. He attended the schools in India and The United States of America. He was unselfishly concerned with individual's inner crisis and focused on the problems of self such as alienation, detachment and existential dilemma. Eventhough he has his achievements in scientific and industrial fields, he is much interested in knowing and writing about the inner crisis of the individuals. In 1957, for a short period he had an assignment in a Mental Hospital in the Unite States, where his uncle was a Psychiatrist. He got an opportunity to study the human behavior. Then his sensitive mind was impressed so much that he wanted his chief protagonists describe an inner life within the inner world of the soul divided against itself, its aspirations and conflicting urges turned on the will and action.
