Rationalism and Humanism - Delivered at Conway Hall, Red Lion Square, W.C.1 on October 18, 1933 - With an Excerpt from The Economic Philosophies, 1941 by Ratish Mohan Agrawala
"Rationalism and Humanism" contains a famous lecture given by J. A. Hobson at Conway Hall, London in 1933. A fascinating analysis of rational humanism with reference to the state of post-WWI democracy not to be missed by those with an interest in social ethics and political science. This classic work is being republished now in a new edition complete with an essay on 'The Economic Philosophy of J. A. Hobson' by Indian writer and political scientist Ratish Mohan Agrawala. John Atkinson Hobson (1858-1940) was an English social scientist and economist most famous for his writing on imperialism-which notably influenced Vladimir Lenin-as well as his theory of underconsumption. His early work also questioned the classical theory of rent and predicted the Neoclassical ""marginal productivity"" theory of distribution. Other notable works by this author include: "Roads To Freedom And Slavery", "The Hindu-Muslim Riots Their Causes And Cures", and "The Economic Philosophies".
Dostęp do żywności i różnorodnośc biologiczna w okolicy Yangambi
Naszym gl wnym celem bylo określenie dostępności i niestabilności żywności wśr d ludności mieszkającej w pobliżu rezerwatu biosfery Yangambi.

W dziedzinie wychowania fizycznego wiele m wi się o stanie odżywienia, aktywności fizycznej i zdrowiu wśr d mlodzieży szkolnej. Kilka dekad temu nastąpilo zjawisko zwane transformacją żywieniową, polegające na odwr ceniu skladu ciala we wszystkich grupach wiekowych, a w coraz większym stopniu wśr d nastolatk w w wieku szkolnym. Przeważające niedobory żywieniowe stopniowo zostaly zastąpione nadmiarem. R wnolegle do odwr cenia stanu odżywienia zaobserwowano r wnież zmiany w profilu epidemiologicznym chor b związanych z tym stanem. Niedobory żywieniowe byly przyczyną chor b zakaźnych, jednak choroby przewlekle niezakaźne są obecnie silnie związane z nadwagą i otylością występującymi we wsp lczesnym świecie. Wygoda wsp lczesnego świata prowadzi nastolatk w do siedzącego trybu życia poprzez ograniczenie aktywności fizycznej oraz nadmierne spożywanie niskiej jakości pokarm w, co wywoluje epidemiczne przypadki zaburzeń metabolicznych i innych patologii. W niniejszej pracy Maric lia dos Santos Oliveira, Cl udia Maria da Silva Vieira i Mara Jordana Magalh es Costa przedstawiają kompendium na ten temat, uzupelnione badaniem przeprowadzonym wśr d nastolatk w w wieku szkolnym.

BOOK OF THE BSA (GROUPS B, C & M) 250cc - 350cc - 500cc & 600cc OHV & SV SINGLES FROM 1945 TO 1959
148 pages, 97 illustrations, size 5.5 x 8.5 inches. Originally published under the title The Book of the BSA (Groups B, C and M) by W. C. Haycraft this book is one of The Motorcyclist's Library series published in the USA by Floyd Clymer by arrangement with the original publishers Pitman Ltd. of London, England. This re-print of the 15th edition includes complete technical data, service and maintenance information and detailed instructions for the repair and overhaul of the major mechanical and electrical components for the BSA 250cc, 350cc, 500cc and 600cc B31, B32, B33, B34, C10, C11, C11 De Luxe, M20, M21 and M33 single cylinder OHV & SV series of motorcycles from 1945 through 1959 with the exception of the 1954-59 C10L, C11G, C12, C15 and Gold Star models. There is adequate detailed text and diagrams to assist in major refurbishing such as an engine rebuild or even a complete renovation.A GUIDE TO THE VARIOUS 'BOOK OF THE BSA' EDITIONS FOR OWNERS OF POST WW2 SINGLES THROUGH 1970The 10th, 11th and 12th editions published after the end of WW2 were nothing more than a reprint of the 1936-1939 pre-war 9th edition, each one having and additional 50 page 'supplement' covering the post-war models. Due to the superficial nature of these supplements, they were inadequate in providing overhaul and repair information for owners of the post-war models. However, when the 13th edition was published, the entire publication focused on the post-war B, C and M models up to 1954 and the 1936-1939 pre-war section was eliminated. The 14th edition expanded on the years covered, as did the 15th edition which was the final edition to include the post-war C series models. Therefore, the VelocePress re-print of the 15th edition (ISBN 9781588502292) is of the most use to owners of the 1945 through 1959 post-war B, C and M singles. The 16th and 17th editions continued coverage of the later B and M models (only) and the last edition to cover the B and M series was the 17th edition published in 1968. Therefore, the VelocePress re-print of the 17th edition (ISBN 9781588501561) which covers the 1955 through 1967 models is of most use to owners of the later B and M series motorcycles. Finally, the 1954 and later C models received their own specific 1st edition beginning in 1963. This separate publication went through four different editions, each one expanding on the years covered. Obviously, the most appropriate edition for late model C series 250cc owners would be the VelocePress re-print (ISBN 9781588501585) of the 4th and final edition which covers the 1954 through 1970 models.
Legal Integration and Language Diversity

Legal Integration and Language Diversity

C.J.W. Baaij

How can the European Union create laws that are uniform in a multitude of languages? Specifically, how can it attain both legal integration and language diversity simultaneously, without the latter compromising the former? C.J.W. Baaij argues that the answer lies in the domain of translation. A uniform interpretation and application of EU law begins with the ways in which translators and jurist-linguists of the EU legislative bodies translate the original legislative draft texts into the various language versions. In the European Union, law and language are inherently connected. The EU pursues legal integration, i.e. the incremental harmonization and unification of its Member States' laws, for the purpose of reducing national regulatory differences between Member States. However, in its commitment to the diversity of European languages, its legislative institutions enact legislative instruments in 24 languages. Language Diversity and Legal Integration assesses these seemingly incompatible policy objectives and contemporary translation practices in the EU legislative procedure, and proposes an alternative, source-oriented approach that better serves EU policy objectives. Contrary to the orthodox view in academic literature and to the current policies of the EU, this book suggests that the English language version should serve as the original and only authentic legislative text. Translation into the other language versions should furthermore avoid prioritizing clarity and fluency over syntactic correspondence and employ neologisms for distinctly EU legal concepts. Ultimately, Baaij provides practical solutions to the conflict between the equality of all language versions, and the need for uniform interpretation and application of EU law.
Cicero, Rhetoric, and Empire

Cicero, Rhetoric, and Empire

C.E.W. Steel

Oxford University Press

Cicero manipulated issues relevant to Rome's possession of an empire (provincial extortion, access to citizenship, and the distribution of military commands) in an important group of speeches: the Verrines, de imperio Cn. Pompei, pro Archia, pro Flacco, de provinciis consularibus, and pro Balbo. C.E.W. Steel examines the speeches' rhetorical techniques and aims in detail. Cicero's presentation of empire concentrates on the power wielded by individuals at the expense of wider questions of administrative structures. Thus the problems which arise in the running of an empire can be presented as the result of personal failings rather than endemic to the structures of government - as questions of morality rather than of administration. Steel argues that this concept is fundamentally flawed. The weakness cannot be explained simply as Cicero's lack of insight, but as an inevitable consequence of the uses to which he puts oratory in his political career: comparison with his contemporaries shows other leading figures producing much more radical approaches to the problems of empire.
