Beer is made up of various bioactive substances containing antioxidants and specific ingredients with potentially beneficial effects on the human body if consumed in moderation. During the production process, the addition of hops, cereals, and malt leads to an increased content of naturally occurring antioxidant compounds in beer, mainly phenolic compounds. This book presents information on the history, compositional analysis, and brewing process of craft beers. It covers aspects of fruit fortification to different craft brewed beers and how it will enhance the nutritional composition, antioxidant properties, color, and sensory attributes of beers. The alcohol industry continues to grow quickly worldwide, and this book provides relevant research literature about recent studies and experimentation in beer, which will be helpful to students, researchers, industrialists, producers, and many others. The incorporation of fruits for the fortification of beers is a topic of interest, resulting in the need for more innovative and effective methods and steps in the production of newer variants of beers.

This book centres craft as a creative industry, illuminating the experiences of those working in and around craft, particularly people from marginalised groups.Shining a light on inequalities around craft work, the author examines the lived experiences of women makers of colour in the professional craft sector. Experiences of racism and microaggressions at all stages of their craft career are analysed. The author draws on innovative empirical research carried out in the UK and Australia, two countries where the resurgence in craft is apparent, yet professional craft practice is dominated by the white and relatively privileged. In interrogating hierarchies of expertise and cultural value in craft, the author employs case studies from community crafts and social enterprises.The result is a book of interest to scholars at the intersections of the creative and cultural industries, the creative economy and inequalities at work.

Craft is an old and familiar idea, but the line between craft and art or craft and mere manufacturing, for example, is notoriously hard to describe. In architecture, a similarly blurred line between the design process, on the one hand, and the physical making of buildings, on the other, lies at the center of various debates about what it means to do architecture. The growth and development of craft theory in recent years suggest new insights into these architectural debates, but situating the meaning of craft within architecture within today’s technological landscape is a complex problem. Alford responds to this challenge by collecting various narratives from craft theory and other fields and discerning among them new lenses through which to view contemporary architectural practice. Episodes from this expanded view of craft in architecture go beyond predictable accounts of Ruskin and Morris to envision: new models of practice, new ways of engaging other building professionals, and new ways for architects to understand their own labor and the nature of how and what kinds of things they themselves craft. Craft Verses Inspiration is a collection from poets of the New Haven Chapter of the Connecticut Poetry Society and the Erato Poetry group. The Connecticut Poetry Society New Haven Chapter meets at the Miller Memorial Central Public Library in Hamden Connecticut. This book explores the new ways in which biology is becoming technology. The revolutionary iPS cell technology has made it possible to turn human skin and blood cells into pluripotent stem cells, thus providing an unprecedented opportunity to study the pathophysiology of diseases, understand human developmental biology, and generate new therapies. Drawing from a rich ethnographic study, Meskus traces the making of the iPS cell technology through the perspectives of clinical translation, laboratory experimentation, and tissue donation by voluntary patients. Discussing non-human agency, the embodied and affective basis of knowledge production, and the material politics of science, the book develops the idea of an instrumentality-care continuum as a fundamental dynamic of biomedical craft. This continuum, Meskus argues, opens up a novel perspective to the commercialization and industrial-scale appropriation of human biology, and thereby to the future of ethical biomedical research.
In Craft and Spirit, Joseph Lichtenberg writes of the craft of exploratory psychotherapy, by which he means the creative skill — even artistry — that mobilizes the spirit of inquiry in therapist and patient and sustains it over the course of psychotherapy. He expatiates on this craft as it pertains to patients of our time — patients who typically bring to therapy backgrounds of insecure attachment and serious concerns about safety and retraumatization. In each of ten chapters, Lichtenberg formulates a different guideline for technique, keyed to the broad domain of exploratory psychotherapies and are accompanied by numerous clinical illustrations. These guidelines seek to foster greater therapist involvement without compromising an openness to psychological exploration. They seek to sensitize therapists to the two interlacing tracks of communication that unfold in treatment: those of verbal exchange and of enactive messages. And they help guide therapist attention among interpenetrating domains of the patient’s subjectivity, the therapist’s subjectivity, and the intersubjective realm that emerges from their collaborative experience. Fusing the humanist tradition of therapeutic inquiry with knowledge gained from recent infancy and child research, Lichtenberg develops guidelines suitable to exploratory therapy with patients who communicate not only verbally but also through diverse affect states and altered cognitions. Consistently illuminating on the parallels and disjunctions between caregiver–child and therapist–patient relationships, Lichtenberg is clear about the adult-to-adult dimension of exploratory work in which “provision” is necessarily subordinate to “inquiry.” Craft and Spirit is aimed equally at prospective patients, therapists, and analysts, all of whom will be edified by this masterful demonstration of the ways in which a spirit of inquiry imbues the craft of psychotherapy, in Lichtenberg’s words, “with its liveliness of sustained purpose.”
