Each chapter parallels closely the content of the corresponding chapter in my text Principles of Macroeconomics, seventh edition. In order to give comprehensive and varied coverage, a six pronged approach has been developed: 1. Chapter Profiles provide an outline of each chapter, and Behavioral Objectives highlight the major concepts to be learned. 2. Case Studies show how the chapter's principles and concepts can be applied to major issues of public and private policy. 3. Limbering-up exercises in the form of Matching Questions and Completion Questions open the way to systematic review. 4. The numerous True-False and Multiple-Choice questions can be used for self-tests. 5. Discussion and Extension Questions provide stimulation for classroom discussions. 6. Short cases in the form of Problems simulate real-world situations and require you to work with actual data in tabular and diagrammatic form, thus demonstrating how to apply economic reasoning in the course of daily life.

Edwin Mansfield, author of Applied Microeconomics, Second Edition, has carefully prepared this book of exercises and case studies for review and practice of material in his text. For each chapter, this Study Guide provides: A brief case study with analytic questions designed to show how the principles apply to the real world. A self-test consisting of thirty completion, true-false, and multiple-choice questions. Approximately a dozen review questions to help you review the material described in the text. Problems (approximately a dozen) enabling you to practice the techniques presented in the text. Key Concepts that facilitate review of the main points set forth in the text. Answers to the questions, making this a self-contained learning program. In addition, five full-length cases, which supplement five of the case chapters in the text, are provided.

Secret War for the Union

Secret War for the Union

Edwin C. Fishel

Houghton Mifflin

nidottu
Most histories of the Civil War explain victory and defeat in terms of the skill of commanders and their troops.Intelligence records disappeared after the war, and thus a critically important element has largely been ignored. Fishel has unearthed substantial collections of such records, and his "intelligence explanation" radically alters history's understanding of the campaigns. The Secret War for the Union is one of the most important Civil War works ever published. AUTHOR: Edwin C. Fishel began thirty years of service during World War II, working first as a chief intelligence reporter in the National Security Agency and later as the director of the National Cryptologic School Press. He lives in Arlington, Virgina.
Analog Integrated Circuits

Analog Integrated Circuits

Edwin W. Greeneich

Chapman and Hall
1997
sidottu
Analog Integrated Circuits deals with the design and analysis of modem analog circuits using integrated bipolar and field-effect transistor technologies. This book is suitable as a text for a one-semester course for senior level or first-year graduate students as well as a reference work for practicing engin eers. Advanced students will also find the text useful in that some of the material presented here is not covered in many first courses on analog circuits. Included in this is an extensive coverage of feedback amplifiers, current-mode circuits, and translinear circuits. Suitable background would be fundamental courses in electronic circuits and semiconductor devices. This book contains numerous examples, many of which include commercial analog circuits. End-of-chapter problems are given, many illustrating practical circuits. Chapter 1 discuses the models commonly used to represent devices used in modem analog integrated circuits. Presented are models for bipolar junction transistors, junction diodes, junction field-effect transistors, and metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors. Both large-signal and small-signal models are developed as well as their implementation in the SPICE circuit simulation program. The basic building blocks used in a large variety of analog circuits are analyzed in Chapter 2; these consist of current sources, dc level-shift stages, single-transistor gain stages, two-transistor gain stages, and output stages. Both bipolar and field-effect transistor implementations are presented. Chapter 3 deals with operational amplifier circuits. The four basic op-amp circuits are analyzed: (1) voltage-feedback amplifiers, (2) current-feedback amplifiers, (3) current-differencing amplifiers, and (4) transconductance ampli fiers. Selectedapplications are also presented.
Living Marine Resources

Living Marine Resources

Edwin S. Iversen

Chapman and Hall
1995
sidottu
Living Marine Resources provides a thorough, up-to-date introduction to all aspects of fisheries science. This clearly written text offers insight into a topic of increasing importance--the wise utilization and management of sea fisheries to maximize production without exceeding their carrying capacity. Adoption of the approaches presented will improve the conservation and management of the many world fisheries that are suffering from years of inefficient practices. The book is divided into five sections, beginning with an introduction to the ocean environment and the various resource species. Part two examines fisheries biology, including age, growth, fecundity, and mortality, enabling readers to appreciate yield models designed to give estimates of maximum sustainable yield and maximum economic yield. The third part covers gear, methods, and landings and includes material on the handling and processing of seafood as well as aquaculture. In part four, yield models are presented to introduce students to theories on population dynamics, stock assessment, and management. The book concludes with coverage of recreational fisheries, including socioeconomic importance, catch and effort research, management techniques, and their interface with commercial fisheries. Living Marine Resources is an invaluable introduction to the subject for advanced undergraduate and graduate students of fisheries science. In addition, the material presented will be valuable to fishery and social scientists, fishery officers and administrators, and students in biology, engineering, economics, and law.

Debtors to their Profession (RLE Banking & Finance)
This volume examines the first hundred years of the Institute of Banking’s development within the banking business as a whole, with a particular emphasis upon changes in the staffing requirements of the banks and the importance of professional qualifications in the careers of their employees. The survey includes a description of early attempts to form a professional institute for bankers between the 1840s and the 1870s. By examining the objectives, growth of membership and the extension of the Institute’s activities, this volume throws light upon the changing work and qualifications of bank personnel and offers a case study in the development of a large and important professional group.

Inclusive Leadership

Inclusive Leadership

Edwin Hollander

Routledge

This landmark book, by Edwin P. Hollander, a noted organizational social psychologist and long-time contributor to leadership research and practice, highlights the leader-follower relationship as central to effective leadership. Inclusive Leadership is a process of active followership emphasizing follower needs and expectations, with the guiding principle of "Doing things with people, not to people," in a two-way influence relationship. The book provides strong theoretical and empirical guidance for leadership development and includes many of Hollander’s key original papers. Each is updated in a chapter with his new reflective commentary, including those on "Interdependence," "Women and Leadership," "Power and Leadership," "Legitimacy," "Ethical Challenges," "Idiosyncrasy Credit," and "Civil Liberties." Six new chapters begin with an "Overview of Inclusive Leadership," identifying distinctive concepts and practices, and an "Historical Background." There also are new chapters on such topics as "Applications," "Presidential Leadership," and "College and University Leadership." It concludes with "Lessons from Experience,"a revealing "Afterword" on his career, and comprehensive Bibliography. Enriching our practical understanding of the leader-follower relationship, with many real-world examples, this book should be a basic addition to anyone’s library on leadership. Students of leadership, management, organizational psychology and behavior, business, sociology, education, political science, and public policy, will find it informative about successful practices of "Inclusive Leadership," and their applications to leadership events.
