The arrival of two young outsiders in Bardale catches the attention of a widowed farmer, who sees in their story an echo of the valley's darkest secret. Werewolves have returned to Lancashire. They may just want a quiet life, but fate has other plans for the brothers, who have escaped their past and must now fight for their future. The book is about a family of shapeshifters trying to survive in a hostile world. Whilst it is about werewolves, it's not about the paranormal. There is romance, danger and family life.

Have you ever read a book that talks back to you? It reads you while you're reading it? The Bible is no ordinary book it truly is God inspired. In Treasures from My Heart, I share a compilation of thoughts, reflections, and impressions I've experienced while reading God's Word. They have helped me navigate walking through the sometimes rocky terrain of self-acceptance, dealing with pride, offense, and handling criticism. I have found drawing close to God in painful times often yields the most precious of treasures. Then there are the delights of discovering more about who God is as our carer, our defender, and the wonder of His majesty as Creator, and so much more. These are precious moments I wanted to share with you. I pray they will serve in helping you navigate your own walk with the Lord. Be uplifted, encouraged, and inspired to read the Bible more and when you do, if you are willing, you will hear the voice of the author talking to you.

Acclaimed Royal Academy artist Jeanette Barnes and Paul Brandford breathe new life into sketching for town and city dwellers everywhere. Mercurial, inspirational, practical and charming, this guide covers everything from architecture to accidental paintings, cocktails to clouds, smudges to skyscrapers. With easily digested bite-size entries, it introduces many types of art materials, their uses and a number of insights and exercises to build confidence in a range of approaches to drawing. For the more experienced sketcher, the artists discuss the processes behind drawing and strategies to inject more creativity and open-mindedness about how to take a drawing forward. With great charm, the book gives a window onto the experiences of Jeanette, who has travelled to many cities worldwide in search of inspiring city subjects and a half-decent cocktail. Full of tips and ideas about working on location and back in the studio, this book is filled with the scribbles, sketches and preparatory drawings that feed into the larger works for which she is known. As a whole, the book is a multipurpose tool which can be used to unlock the potential of drawing both technically and philosophically so that the reader can be the architect of their own drawing experience rather than the recipient of someone else’s. After thirty years of drawing, many of them teaching, the authors still feel an excitement when picking up a pencil or some charcoal. This book gives every reader the chance to share that excitement and bring urban living to life.

Into the Promised Land

Into the Promised Land

When Jeanette became a Christian she hoped that - over time, as others have experienced - she would find her sexual orientation changed sufficiently to consider marriage and possibly even children. It was not to be. God had something different, but not less valuable and fulfilling, More...in mind. Living in a conversely hopeful/hopeless land of possible change had left me exhausted, powerless and well short of the promised abundant life. In accepting that my attractions, if fostered, would lead to a reoccurrence of lesbian behaviour proved beneficial. An unseen, and largely unknown, barrier between Jesus and me was demolished. Relating to him from the position of who I am, and not from who I would like to be, released a greater intimacy... So, what is the 'promised land'? What is our reward for faithful, chaste commitment? Is it all worth it? Put simply, it is resting in God's perfect plan for our life. The wilderness years are the years of re-creation in the image of Christ. The wilderness teaches us strength and security and to discover joy in unexpected places. The wilderness provides us with the courage to discover the land - our transformed mind, body and soul.
Early Prose in France

Early Prose in France

Jeanette Beer

It is fast becoming dogma that French prose emerged out of poetry by a process of deversification in the thirteenth century. Since the earliest extant example of written French prose dates back to the eighth century, this premise cannot be taken at face value. Prose had been the medium of the clercs for many centuries before the thirteenth. It had been honed by constant use to all manner of functions whether legal, diplomatic, epistolary, or edificatory (to name only those exemplified in this study). Early Prose in France is above all a reevaluation, an attempt to call into question the assumption that deversification could have been responsible for the emergence of such lengthy prose works as the crusading chronicles and the encyclopedic translations of the early thirteenth century. In this volume Beer demonstrates the sophisticated stylistic propensities of Early French prose, an effort long needed that does a great service to all French literary scholars.

The collection of essays in Translation Theory and Practice in the Middle Ages arose from a translation symposium at the twenty-eighth International Congress on Medieval Studies at Kalamazoo, Michigan. The authors treat a wide range of topics: translation between Latin and romance languages, the rise of vernacular "canonicity," the interplay of Latin and French in the court of France, the theory of translation evident in Alfred the Great’s ambitious program of translation of religious works from Latin into Old English, questions of the impact of classical admonitions on medieval translation, interpretive translation used to render traditionally "masculine" heroes as "feminine," the interplay of word and image relating to gender issues, and bilingualism, concluding with translation of medieval texts in the modern era. The scholarship on offer here presents a spectacular collection of modern questions of medieval translation, certainly an essential text for all scholars of related issues.
