Strange Bedfellows

Strange Bedfellows

This book is a collection of two very distinct types of poetry: limericks and erotica. While it's true that many limericks are rather sexual and even raunchy (and yes, I've included a few in the book), they are very different in their style and formatting. While erotica is based fully on sexual themes, often the dark 'hot' extremely sensual sort and generally free-verse, limericks are light-hearted, structured rhymes. Erotica tends toward passion, while limericks tend toward humor. It's this poetic diversity that I've coupled (pun intended) into one book, that spawned the title. Kenneth Norman Cook

Roy Inglis was a trouble--shooter for the ""Earth Gods"" operation and he was among the very few who knew that someday they would run into the synthetic equivalent of the Devil. Jeremy Dodge knew the Earth would face starvation if it were not for the new science of ""aquaculture."" But, like the rest of the surface-dwellers, Jeremy did not know what a vicious monopoly underwater cultivation had become. That is, until the dreadful moment when he himself was kidnaped and dragged beneath the depths. And there he was to learn that just making his own escape would not be enough-he would have to save mankind from the tyranny of a new race of water-breathing human monsters!

In the meantime, people are suddenly being attacked by animals, both wild and domestic, seemingly without reasons. This includes in an LA zoo where a tiger has suddenly become a maneater, when it had never been before. In addition, a suspect is on the loose who may be connected to the zoo staffer being killed by the very animal he took care of. Police must find and capture him before he decides to let loose the most dangerous animals in the park while the chief vet must determine what diseases may be linked to the aberrant animal behaviors and if that strange phenomenon is linked to the situations at hand.

Ethics and the Gulf War

Ethics and the Gulf War

Kenneth L. Vaux

Routledge
2019
sidottu
The war on the ground and in the air over Kuwait and Iraq was not the only Gulf War being fought in early 1990. George Bush and Saddam Hussein were also battling for public opinion and for the perception of legitimacy for their actions. In this effort, both men as well as their spokespersons appealed to the just war theory of their religious traditions. In this perceptive and wide-ranging book, Kenneth Vaux elucidates the great just war traditions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, evaluating the key events of the war in light of the religious rhetoric used by both sides. From the first stirrings of conflict to its uncertain aftermath, religious and ethical traditions played a major role in winning support not just for the U.S. and Iraqi peoples but of public opinion worldwide. Throughout Vaux demonstrates the wide gaps between religious rhetoric and the political-military action it has been called on to support. Ethics and the Gulf War is not a typical ethical treatise; Vaux understands ethical reflection to encompass history, philosophy, psychology, ecology, theology, and eschatology. His book is a valuable contribution to the understanding of the Gulf War, and it is fascinating for scholars and laypersons coming to this subject from almost any area of interest.
