Male alliances, partnerships, and friendships are fundamental to the Hebrew Bible. This book offers a detailed and explicit exploration of the ways in which shared sexual use of women and women’s bodies engenders, sustains, and nourishes such relationships in the Hebrew Bible.Hebrew Bible narratives demonstrate that women and women’s bodies are not merely used to foster and cultivate male homosociality, male friendship, and toxic hegemonic masculinity, but rather to engender them and make them possible in the first place. Thiede argues that homosocial bonds between divine and mortal males are part of a continual competition for power, rank, and honor, and that this competition depends on women’s bodies for its expression. In a final chapter, she also explores whether female characters in the Hebrew Bible use male bodies to form friendships and alliances to advance female power, status, and rank. The book concludes by arguing that women are essential to the toxic biblical hegemonic masculinity we find in the Hebrew Bible, but only because their bodies are used to make it possible in the first place.This book is intended for scholars of the Hebrew Bible, as well as advanced undergraduate and graduate students in religious studies, women and gender studies, masculinity studies, queer studies, and like fields. The book can also be read profitably by lay students of biblical literature, seminary students, and clergy.

In his 1908 cultural and historical study of homosexuality titled The Intersexes: A History of Similisexualism as a Problem in Social Life, Edward Irenæus Prime-Stevenson includes a section on homosexual juvenile fiction, perhaps the first attempt to identify a body of children’s literature about male homosexuality in English. Known for pioneering the explicitly gay American novel for adults, Stevenson was also one of the first thinkers to take seriously the possibility and value of homosexual children, whom he called "young Uranians." This book takes as its starting point Stevenson’s catalog of homosexual boy books around the turn of the century and offers a critical examination of these works, along with others by gay writers who wrote for children from the mid-nineteenth century through the end of World War I. Stevenson’s list includes Eduard Bertz, Howard Sturgis, Horace Vachell, and Stevenson himself—to which Horatio Alger, John Gambril Nicholson, and E.F. Benson are added. Read alongside major developments in English- and German-language sexology, these boy books can be understood as participating in the construction and dissemination of the discourse of sexuality and as constituting the figure of the young Uranian as central to modern gay identity.

The "Male Angst" books are anthologies of "situationships" (portmanteau of situation and relationship), and reflect the ills of the postmodern dating landscape after 2010. The book is from the point of view of a libertarian Black male, who has to navigate the mainstream and the "street" worlds. As a result, the Male Angst genre is a mix between dark humor, erotic fiction, and quasi-urban fiction (street lit) targeted towards men from the ages of 35 to 55. The first installation ("FML: I Always Get 'Those' Chicks") of this genre was written seven years ago, chronicling the two situationships that the protagonist, Reginald Jenkins III, goes through.Seven years after the anthology of FML: I Always Get "Those" Chicks, Reginald Jenkins is back at it again. Too black for the mainstream and not black enough for the underground, the quintessential "Classic Man" navigates dynamic work and familial relationships. After his lackadaisical roommate gets him to join a happy hour kickball league, he finds himself disoriented, dazed and high. Why? Because of Smokin' Thuy'd.Monkeys have tails and men have tales.
