Koodi Oma-kirja on aivan uudenlainen oppikirja. Oma-kirja koostuu opetustekstistä sekä tehtävistä, jotka täydennetään suoraan kirjaan. Tekstit on kirjoitettu selkeytetyllä yleiskielellä. Luvuissa keskitytään perusasioihin, ja niistä on karsittu peruskirjaan kuuluvia syventäviä osuuksia. Oma-kirjan ulkoasu on rauhallinen, ja luvuissa toistuvat elementit tukevat oppilasta. Kirjan sisällys noudattaa Koodi Elämä -kirjan järjestystä, joten kirjoja voi käyttää yleisopetuksessa rinnakkain. Oma-kirja on tarkoitettu muun muassa oppilaille, joilla on haasteita lukemisessa, kirjoittamisessa ja opiskelutaidoissa tai Suomea toisena kielenä vasta opetteleville oppilaille, esimerkiksi valmistavalta luokalta perusopetukseen siirtyville oppilaille.

A visionary novel from Doris Lessing, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature. It is sooner than you might think. And the Earth’s climate is much changed – it’s colder than ever before in the north, and unbearably dry and hot in the south. Mara, who is seven, and her four-year-old brother Dann find themselves somewhere very strange, not home … They are taken in by a kindly, grandmotherly woman, but this new life is hard: hunger, dirt, thirst and danger are the children’s constant companions. Drought and fire carry off their adoptive home and force them to set off northward into the unknown, to experience a series of adventures that bring them to an altogether altered world, where they can start to learn and build anew. Doris Lessing has written a compelling, troubling and entertaining novel that, through the remarkable odyssey of a brother and sister living in the imagined future, manages to tell us a great deal about the present we perceive only dimly and scarcely know how to value.

"Tenderly perceptive....A resounding affirmation of humanity and what it holds dearest, from one of our most gifted storytellers."-- Publishers Weekly (starred review)Thousands of years in the future, all the northern hemisphere is buried under the ice and snow of a new Ice Age. At the southern end of a large landmass called Ifrik, two children of the Mahondi people, seven-year old Mara and her younger brother, Dann, are abducted from their home in the middle of the night. Raised as outsiders in a poor rural village, Mara and Dann learn to survive the hardships and dangers of a life threatened as much by an unforgiving climate and menacing animals as by a hostile community of Rock People. Eventually they join the great human migration North, away from the drought that is turning the southern land to dust, and in search of a place with enough water and food to support human life. Traveling across the continent, the siblings enter cities rife with crime, power struggles, and corruption, learning as much about human nature as about how societies function. With a clear-eyed vision of the human condition, Mara and Dann is imaginative fiction at its best.

Maria Montessori's Philosophy

Maria Montessori's Philosophy shows how Montessori's commitment to "follow the child" can be understood as a philosophical method for answering the great philosophical questions that confront human beings. Patrick Frierson discusses historical influences on Montessori's philosophical views, focusing on showing how her commitment to children led her to profound insights about a wide range of philosophical questions, from foundational metaphysics to applied ethics and politics. Her metaphysics, grounded in the concept of life as she observes it developing in the child, helps to address fundamental questions about the nature of the universe and the emergence of consciousness and value within it. Her pragmatic empiricist epistemology provides the framework for a sophisticated account of various intellectual virtues conducive to excellent cognitive engagement with reality. Her moral philosophy weaves together a broadly Nietzschean emphasis on self-perfection with respect for all human beings and a strong interest in social solidarity. In her philosophy of religion, she follows children as they guide her to recognize a sense for the divine and the importance of sensorily-informed religious practice. Her politics, informed by lifelong feminism and concern for peace, shows how the education of the child is the key to cosmopolitan solidarity and lasting peace. Her philosophy of technology, while recognizing the dangers of technological development, also sees in children the human potential, and even vocation, to develop technology for the betterment of the world.

for SSA and piano or harp This is a beautifully crafted setting of a medieval German text. The composer's simple but effective writing underscores perfectly the quietly wondrous nature of the text, the gentle 'Kyrie eleison' refrain providing a poignant commentary throughout. The harp part (which includes all three carols in the set) is available from Banks Music Publications for sale under the title Three Upper-voice Carols.

Maria W. Stewart was a trailblazing political philosopher and social reformer, who migrated from the Connecticut of her birth, south to Baltimore and then Washington, D.C. on the eve of the Civil War. Stewart was a free-born African American who became a teacher, journalist, lecturer, abolitionist, and women's rights activist. She is the first known American woman to offer political lectures before an interracial audience of men and woman. Maria W. Stewart: Essential Writings of a 19th-Century Black Abolitionist offers the most comprehensive and contextually dynamic collection of Stewart's fascinating corpus to date. In addition to including an intellectual biography on this formidable female historical figure. Douglas A. Jones brings together Stewart's known essays, lectures, and fiction, including recently discovered texts, all of which directly influenced other major black abolitionist contemporaries, including Frederick Douglass and many others. The volume's extended introduction and detailed notes situate Stewart's then-radical political philosophy in the rich intellectual contexts in which she worked, including abolitionism, black nationalism, feminism, and sentimentalism.

This work offers a detailed reconstruction of the campaigns for and trials resulting in the beatification (in 1626) and subsequent canonization in 1169 of the Florentine mystic nun, Maria Maddalena de' Pazzi (1566-1607). Clare Copeland places her findings in the wide context of the politics of saint-making at a time of particular significance for the history of Roman Catholic canonization. The Protestant Reformation had put the Roman Catholic Church on the defensive in this area of devotional practice and the period covered in this volume (ca. 1600-1669) saw far-reaching reforms in the ways in which sanctity was measured and adjudicated by Rome. Copeland shows how these developments need to be seen less in terms of a top-down attempt by the central organs of ecclesiastical control to impose a hegemony of holiness and more in terms of negotiation over the meanings of sanctity--and how it relates to canonization-between the various stakeholders.

Maria, nemica del peccato. Meditazioni mariane di san Francesco de Geronimo S.I.
