Allāma Amini is most famous for his research project al-Ghadir which offers an in-depth analysis of the appointment of Imam Ali at Ghadir Khumm and the series of events that followed. Born in Tabriz in 1902, Allama 'Abd al-Husayn Amini developed a passion for knowledge from a young age under the tutelage of his father. At aged 14 years, he moved to Najaf to pursue his studies further. Dr. Fakhr-Rohani's biography is the first of its kind written in English. It describes Allama's early influences, analyses the research methods used in al-Ghadir, and relates anecdotes from those closest to him, thus uncovering the secrets behind Allama Amini's devotion to the truth.
An Analysis of James E. Lovelock's Gaia

An Analysis of James E. Lovelock's Gaia

Gaia: A New Look At Life on Earth may continue to divide opinion, but nobody can deny that the book offers a powerful insight into the creative thinking of its author, James E. Lovelock. Published in 1979, Gaia offered a radically new hypothesis: the Earth, Lovelock argued, is a living entity. Together, the planet and all its separate living organisms form a single self-regulating body, sustaining life and helping it evolve through time. Lovelock sees humans as no more special than other elements of the planet, railing against the once widely-held belief that the good of mankind is the only thing that matters. Despite being seen as radical, and even idiotic on its publication, a version of Lovelock’s viewpoint has found resonance in contemporary debates about the environment and climate, and has now broadly come to be accepted by modern thinkers. As man’s effects on the climate become increasingly extreme, more and more elements of the Earth’s self-regulation seem to be unveiled – forcing scientists to ask how far the planet might be able to go in order self-regulate effectively. Indeed, despite its far-fetched elements, Lovelock’s Gaia thesis seems to ring more convincingly today than ever before; that it does is largely a result of the critical thinking skills that allowed Lovelock to produce novel explanations for existing evidence and, above all, to connect existing fragments of evidence together in new ways.

The superhero of comic books and blockbuster movies might be a State-side phenomenon, with its conservative notions of 'truth, justice and the American way'. But the cultural DNA of the superhero arguably lies in a much older, more progressive, British tradition: the folk heroes of British protest history. In this unique anthology, ten authors have been charged with resurrecting this tradition: to spawn a new generation of present-day British superheroes to bring the fight back to these shores, and to more progressive causes. From the statue-toppling Bristolian with otherworldly powers, to the Essex resident protecting public spaces and parks, these characters prove that it is possible to create a new breed of superhero in ways that capture essential truths about the society we live in.

Mohammad Tarbush was born in British Mandate Palestine in 1948. As an infant, he and his family were forced to evacuate their village together with its entire population after the Zionist victory that led to the establishment of the State of Israel. As landless refugees in the West Bank the family sank into poverty. When, as a teenager, Tarbush left home one day under the pretext of visiting relatives in Jordan, he in fact set off on a year-long hitchhiking journey to Europe, where he would eventually become a highly successful international banker and a key behind-the-scenes promoter of the Palestinian cause. My Palestine is a poignant personal memoir and an incisive political and economic commentary on the tumultuous events that have shaped the history of Palestine, Israel and the modern Middle East.

A group of British Muslims visited us in the last ten days of the month of Ramadan in the year 1436 AH/2015 CE. They came in large numbers, and their ranks included a number of scholars, speakers, and people of knowledge. Among them was an eminent Muslim scholar, a blessing from God for the believers, and a man worthy of mention in the heavens - God willing. He was our beloved brother Dr. Mohammad Akram Nadwi, God preserve him and protect him from every evil. I found him to be a man of real knowledge and practice, one belonging to the ranks of those who are mentioned as models of excellence, precision and deep understanding
