Thinking With—Jean-Luc Nancy
A multifaceted engagement with the thought of Jean-Luc Nancy. This book continues passionate conversation that Jean-Luc Nancy (1940–2021) was engaged in throughout his life with philosophers and artists from all over the world. The contributors take up Nancy’s philosophical question of truth as a praxis of a “with”—understanding truth without any given measure or comparison as an articulation of a with. It is a thinking responsible for the world from within the world, a language that seeks to respond to the ongoing mutation of our civilization. Contributors include Jean-Christophe Bailly, Rodolphe Burger, Marcia Sá Calvacante Schuback, Marcus Coelen, Alexander García Düttmann, Juan-Manuel Garrido, Martta Heikkilä, Erich Hörl, Valentin Husson, Sandrine Israel-Jost, Ian James, Apostolos Lampropoulos, Nidesh Lawtoo, Jérôme Lèbre, Susanna Lindberg, Michael Marder, Artemy Magun, Boyan Manchev, Dieter Mersch, Hélène Nancy, Jean-Luc Nancy, Aïcha Liviana Messina, Ginette Michaud, Helen Petrovsky, Jacob Rogozinski, Philipp Stoellger, Peter Szendy, Georgios Tsagdis, Marita Tatari, Gert-Jan van der Heiden, and Aukje van Rooden.

The life of Nancy presents a quiet exploration of rural innocence encountering the unfamiliar rhythms of city life. At its heart is a young girl whose journey from a pastoral village to an urban center becomes a lens through which both environments are observed with fresh clarity. The narrative opens with the contrast between eastern Massachusetts s calm and the vivid energy of Boston. The protagonist enters the city with a mixture of anticipation and wonder, revealing an honest emotional connection to her roots even as she opens herself to new surroundings. Her impressions of the city its movement, manners, and opportunities are filtered through a sensibility shaped by simplicity and sincerity. Encounters with others, particularly a city-dweller eager to share his perspective, underscore the gentle exchange between rural values and urban sophistication. This story does not rest on plot turns but instead offers careful character observation, natural dialogue, and emotional insight. The novel ultimately emphasizes growth through contrast, with authenticity and personal connection emerging as the most lasting discoveries.

This volume explores how poets use different kinds of formal experimentation to change the way we think, and to allow us to try out new ways of perceiving existence and positioning ourselves within the world. Yves Bonnefoy and Jean-Luc Nancy: Ontological Performance examines the affinities that exist between Bonnefoy's poetry and Nancy's philosophy. It analyses how Bonnefoy experiments with the poem's act of address, its material disposition, and sonorous performance. It scrutinises how he foregrounds the bodily and material forces that are at play within language in order to makes us feel the diverse worldly forces that are active within us and to make us perceive our own human existence in more interconnected ways. Exploring how Bonnefoy and Nancy share the desire to resist detached ways of perceiving existence, this book analyses how they present interaction as the generative dynamic that drives all existence and use the text's resonant play to make us aware of how all bodies--human, material, or poetic--emerge from a complex interplay of worldly forces.
On the Literary Nonfiction of Nancy Mairs
Much of the existing scholarship on Nancy Mairs has approached her essays in the context of disability studies. This book seeks to broaden the conversation through a range of critical perspectives and with attention to underrepresented aspects of Mairs's oeuvre, demonstrating her provocative combination of bold ethics and subtle aesthetics.
