Design and Analysis of Openings in Steel Tanks and Pressure Vessels
The subject of openings in storage tanks and unfired pressure vessels is an established knowledge base developed from a century and a half of experience. Few technical areas related to tank and pressure vessel pressure boundary penetrations (openings) remain not fully understood. Nevertheless, knowledge on the subject is ever evolving. The content of this book is limited to a presentation of storage tank and pressure vessel openings and their importance in vessel design. No new, groundbreaking concepts are revealed; instead, it is felt that this book offers an efficient compilation of practical and relevant information. Some subject matters covered in this book have not been incorporated into the formal curricula of higher education institutions. New practitioners joining the field of vessel design typically gain their knowledge of these topics through work-assigned projects, sometimes with frustrating and less than timely results. This complex subject is broken down into smaller, more digestible subtopics to make the content more accessible. The chapters follow in a logical sequence beginning with the most fundamental aspects of the subject, progressively becoming more relevant, and finishing with the more technically challenging engineering considerations of storage tank and pressure vessel openings. The progression from fundamental to advanced topics enables readers, based on their experience, to navigate quickly to their points of interest. A certain amount of informational duplication has been purposely incorporated to allow the reader the opportunity to study and benefit from individual chapters in a stand-alone fashion.

It has only been a short time since the existence of suppressor cells was demonstrated, yet in this period of time a great deal of information has been compiled concerning their basic science and their functions or disordered functions in human disease. This volume is an tempt to clarify the immune mechanisms through which these cells act, their normal functions, and how their functions are disordered in certain disease states. In this volume some rational approaches are proposed to therapy of diseases perceived at least partially due to disordered immune regulation. Particular focus is on the recently emerging field of soluble suppressor factors as a means of providing adoptive immunotherapy in certain situations. I hope that future work in this field will justify the confidence in this approach.

Government is analysed as the product of exchange among individuals who differ in their bargaining power. This approach shows why individuals agree to political institutions that give their governments extensive power, and why even the most powerful government benefits from constitutional rules constraining the government's power. This foundation is used to examine a wide range of government activities, including its protection of rights, its military activities, and democratic political institutions.

Weasel Finkbone is Keeping Down Appearances
His father was dead--his body blown to bits, they said, on an assignment far from home. But neither Weasel Finkbone nor his sister, Anna, believed them. Now, after three years of sly investigating, Weasel thinks he knows where his father is: out on an old oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, and probably involved in some top-secret government plot. But as he and his friends, Titus and Beans, are finalizing plans for a secret trip to the rig to look for his dad, things start to get a little crazy, and the trip that was meant to be a 'quest to end all quests' becomes just one leg of a far more exciting adventure that forces the spotlight-avoiding Weasel to take center stage and share with the world his many odd but excellent qualities.

The Battle of the Bulge was the largest land battle in U.S. history, a battle that cost the United States 20,000 lives and stopped the last German offensive of World War II. The authors, both residents of Helena, Montana, studied the history of this battle and walked the critical sectors of the battlefield, examining examples of American heroism and looking for evidence of involvement by Montanans. Their objective was to better understand this significant battle and how our soldiers managed to stop an enemy steamroller, overcoming their fears while outnumbered more than three-to-one. This book examines the eleven critical junctures of the battle and includes personal stories of Montana veterans.

The Wizard of Menlo Park: How Thomas Alva Edison Invented the Modern World
Thomas Edison's greatest invention? His own fame.At the height of his fame Thomas Alva Edison was hailed as "the Napoleon of invention" and blazed in the public imagination as a virtual demigod. Starting with the first public demonstrations of the phonograph in 1878 and extending through the development of incandescent light and the first motion picture cameras, Edison's name became emblematic of all the wonder and promise of the emerging age of technological marvels. But as Randall Stross makes clear in this critical biography of the man who is arguably the most globally famous of all Americans, Thomas Edison's greatest invention may have been his own celebrity. Edison was certainly a technical genius, but Stross excavates the man from layers of myth-making and separates his true achievements from his almost equally colossal failures. How much credit should Edison receive for the various inventions that have popularly been attributed to him--and how many of them resulted from both the inspiration and the perspiration of his rivals and even his own assistants? This bold reassessment of Edison's life and career answers this and many other important questions while telling the story of how he came upon his most famous inventions as a young man and spent the remainder of his long life trying to conjure similar success. We also meet his partners and competitors, presidents and entertainers, his close friend Henry Ford, the wives who competed with his work for his attention, and the children who tried to thrive in his shadow--all providing a fuller view of Edison's life and times than has ever been offered before. The Wizard of Menlo Park reveals not only how Edison worked, but how he managed his own fame, becoming the first great celebrity of the modern age.
