Movies about college have been a staple of American cinema since the silent era. College movies such as The Paper Chase (1973), Animal House (1978), and Higher Learning (1995) provide insight into the ways that college has been variously imagined as a middle class rite of passage, a landscape of hedonistic fantasy, a microcosm of societal hypocrisy, a repressive system of deindividuation, and a carnivalesque holiday from "real life." This unique volume examines the representation of college and campus life in movies. Chapters discuss the extent to which movies about college inform the expectations, perceptions, and attitudes of students, faculty, and the public. Cinema U includes close analysis of individual films as well as broader examinations of the manner in which college films have addressed issues such as race, class, gender, technology, sexuality, and cultural difference.
Vademecum Precum is a Book of Prayers In Eight Languages. Fr. Soto does the Church a great service in bringing together such a wide variety of vocal prayers. In addition, the various languages offer us a glimpse of the universality of the Church. May this collection of prayers gathered from the many languages of the earth assist us in as we grow "in a vital and personal relationship with the living and true God."
In this introductory guide, Randy Bell, an experienced meditator for nearly 40 years, presents the basics of meditation practice. The background, purpose and benefits for meditation are offered, followed by descriptions of the basic sitting postures and recommended settings. He then walks the meditator through some specific beginning meditation forms and techniques. All of these techniques are offered independently of any particular meditation or spiritual tradition so that, over time, each meditator can develop his/her personal meditation practice as appropriate.

In this series of essays, author Randy Bell raises questions about what it means to be an American in the early 21st century. Covering a range of issues such as government and its responsibility to its people, international relations, the economy and business, religion, discrimination, and human rights, Bell makes a case for informed discussion and the rejection of knee-jerk responses to complex challenges. These essays are intended to provoke critically needed conversations between family, friends, neighbors, colleagues, and political parties. The book is a call for respectful conversations that consist not just of talking, but also listening fully to what others are saying...conversations that help the continual development of each reader's perspectives and opinions. It is unlikely that all readers will come to the same conclusions given our different experiences and life journeys, but it does matter greatly that we work to come to a place that honors those differences, while concurrently allowing us to live peaceful and productive lives in community with each other. For it is in community that there is not only strength, but also a life greatly enriched.
Many people today are in search of a framework within which they can pursue their spiritual thinking and experience. They may have found that their childhood or traditional religious connection no longer serve their needs, or provide the answers that they seek. They may be in the midst of a personal crisis, where the lessons learned over their lifetime no longer seem to apply. They may be at a new crossroad in their life, and are trying to determine which direction their life should now go.Our spiritual life and perspective is, and should be, at the foundation of these moments. The Divine Intention For Our Human Life offers a new and fresh perspective about what should be the core understanding that forms our spiritual thinking. This narrative explains the spiritual reason human life was created; how God has structured that life to unfold; why challenges and difficulties are a necessary part of that life; and where we thereby need to put our energies, time and thoughtful attention. With that greater understanding, we are better able to fulfill our desire to live our life in synchronicity with God and the Universe.
