Pot in Pans: A History of Eating Weed is a comprehensive history of cannabis as a unique culinary ingredient, from ancient India and Persia to today’s explosive new market. Cannabis, the hottest new global food trend, has been providing humans with nutrition, medicine, and solace – against all odds – since the earliest cavepeople discovered its powers. In colorful detail, the book explores the debate over the cannabis plant’s taxonomy and nomenclature, then follows as it co-evolves with humans throughout history, beloved by the masses, reviled by the elite, and shrouded in conflict and secrecy. The story is held together by the thread of the Islamic confection majoun, created to manipulate a band of twelfth-century fedayeen, a legend that later inspired Western intellectuals and literati to discover and enjoy hashish and majoun. It’s the story of how a U.S. drug czar got cannabis prohibited around the world and how some cultures worked around that. It’s the story of how a recipe for majoun made its way into the hands of Alice B. Toklas, an ex-pat in Paris, and then into the pages of a cookbook published in New York and London, leading to a major mix-up in a major motion picture that morphed majoun into the pot brownie and turned the pot brownie into a Western icon forevermore. From the rowdy band of artists, rebels, and intellectuals who partook of majoun’s charms and to an activist who made the pot brownie a symbol of compassion, it’s the story of how cannabis cookery and hash eating survived through decades of global prohibition and the birth of a skies-the-limit cannabis-infused food industry. Along the way, Robyn Griggs Lawrence explores the medicinal qualities of cannabis and its resurgence as a both a recreational drug and a respite from various illnesses and ailments. With recipes and stories throughout, this work is sure to entertain and inform readers about the history of cannabis as an edible ingredient in a variety of foods.

This book uses the world of sports in order to reveal the complicated history of gender, sexuality, race, and social justice while connecting those stories to today’s athletes. It highlights the ways sports often contribute to inequalities, but also how they can help make the world more accepting. Have you ever wondered why most cheerleaders are girls? It didn’t used to be that way. Up until the early twentieth century, all cheerleaders were actually boys. And why do some athletes, like Caster Semenya, have to prove they’re women while there’s no testing for men? Why do athletes like Megan Rapinoe and Colin Kaepernick use sports as a platform for social justice, and should they? These questions and more are examined in Throw Like a Girl, Cheer Like a Boy: The Evolution of Gender, Identity, and Race in Sports. Robyn Ryle uses the world of sports to examine the history, controversy, and current conversations around sexuality, race, and social justice, bringing in the stories of today’s athletes to highlight where things stand in the present. Topics covered include gender segregation, gender testing, transgender athletes, sexuality, homophobia, globalization, race, and activism. Throw Like a Girl, Cheer Like a Boy shows the great strides that have been made in the sports world recently, but there are still questions that remain and work that needs to be done. This book brings to attention the ways in which sports can contribute to inequalities, while also demonstrating how sports can also help create a more just world for everyone.

What does a hungry, pregnant witch do when her whole freaking town goes on a no carb diet? I'll tell you what. She goes on the sly and conjures up some anchovy-chocolate chunk cookies dipped in hot sauce-that's what. Of course my cheating gets complicated when all of the magic in the world goes on the fritz. To solve that particular wrinkle, I'll have to finally find the source of the lurking evil. Easier said than done. Maybe if I wasn't pregnant and starving, I could deal with the nasty old witch who resides in a gingerbread house. Add in carb eating fairies who speak French and three rotund familiars who enjoy defacing property with profane graffiti, and what you get is almost more trouble than I can handle in my baby baking condition. I'm still not convinced I won't be giving birth to puppies since the smokin' hot father of my babies is a werewolf, and NO ONE has given me ANY concrete proof to the contrary. Getting knocked up by the werewolf of my dreams was all kinds of awesome in practice, but the reality of becoming a mother scares me more than Baba Yaga's horrendous 1980's wardrobe. Monstrous decisions with enormous ramifications are best handled with meticulous planning-or in my case-after eating a giant mustard slathered jelly doughnut. Neither of those options is possible at the moment, but since there is no way I'm bringing my children into a magicless world, winging it will just have to work. Wait... Was that a contraction I just felt? Goddess help us all...

Just as triathlon is a combination of three sports, "The Laws of Triathlon" has three components. These are mixed throughout the 140.6 laws. The main ingredient consists of the unwritten laws - those rules of a culture that if violated result in public shaming rather than a time penalty or DQ. This is spiced with anecdotes or references that help illustrate the consequences of straying from the "Laws." Finally, sprinkled throughout are some jabs at our OCD cycling buddies. Similarly our intended audience includes three groups. There is a fair amount of basic information for those new to the sport and their inquisitive friends/family. We also provide multiple references for the veterans who wish to delve deeper. Thirdly, we kept some basics very simple for the cyclists. On a final note, if struggling in life or a race, Law # 0.6 will see you through to your next destination.

Why do I have to have my tail in a knot for the one hot, sexy Werewolf who can't seem to keep his Johnson in his pants? I'm a nice girl-really I am. I'm just a typical computer-hacking, knife-throwing, Star Trek-obsessed, overeducated Werewolf nerd who can't seem to get her love life to compute. However, it's time to grow up and face the music or more accurately the man I'm in love with... Junior aka Jacob Wilson-the Alpha of the Georgia Pack. First I'll have to stand up to some nasty gals who's pants are so tight I can see their religion. Then I'll claim my man. What should be an easy feat, gets sucktastic when you throw in a three hundred year old fabulous gay Vampyre, an antiquated motherboard from the 90's and a challenge from the vicious, deadly Alabama Pack. Not to mention a libido that is out of control. Mine. So I'm just gonna dive in-head first and eyes closed. Love conquers all. Right? As long as reality doesn't wear me out, I plan to win.
