Creative Thinking for the 21st Century: An Experiential Guidebook

Creative Thinking for the 21st Century: An Experiential Guidebook

In Sandy Sims' book How Frank Lloyd Wright Got Into My Head, Under My Skin And Changed The Way I Think About Thinking: A Creative Thinking Blueprint For The 21st Century, Sandy - who considers himself to be an "average guy next door" - describes the journey we are all being called to take. Sandy struggled in a mid-life crisis to make a go of a Honolulu-based advertising agency. After he met a psychiatrist, Kerry Monick, MD, on a blind date, he was thrust "down the rabbit hole" on a metaphorical journey into the unknown - a world of self-discovery, full of engaging people and entirely new methods of thinking. To that point his thinking patterns had produced results, but he was still plagued by fear, worry and doubt. When he learned to let go, life saw him practicing new manifestation principles, gaining confidence increment by increment, and finally risking it all in pursuit of a dream. Kerry had catalyzed Sandy's journey, and once FLW was written they together felt that some key pointers for these chaotic times would be extremely helpful for readers. Using Sandy's journey as a springboard, they wrote Creative Thinking For The 21st Century: An Experiential Guidebook to focus on a few salient ideas that can make a big difference. For example, why do we make the choices we do about how to think? Is there a more useful approach? Mystics knew, but could not demonstrate their knowledge in scientific terms. This gap is closing. Quantum physics is slowly revealing the "how". As we begin to see, through science, that what we purposefully think about does indeed affect the material world, it becomes clear that it is essential to bring mindfulness to the process. If our thoughts have consequences, how do we effectively shape them? How do we avoid unintended consequences? How long do thoughts take to manifest, and what sometimes stands in their way? Is it possible that we have help available to us via the collective unconscious, and, if so, how do we improve the connections? Does becoming connected eventually put us in touch with the "flow" of life and a sense that we are part of a larger tapestry? With a few questions, self-inventory evaluations, and new points of view we can harness key principles, learn to trust our intuition and gain more understanding of this new territory. We can see that we have been more the architects of our lives than we might have imagined - what we have intentionally thought about or dwelled upon has played out in many cases. No matter how big the challenge we face, we can learn - starting from here - how to make our ordinary daily life extraordinary. This short and easy guidebook might catalyze a trigger point in you. If it does it will have been well worth the read.

Winnie Dumont was minding her own business riding on the floor of a Parisian taxi cab with her parents, Francine and Reynaldo when suddenly the cab lurched to the curb, jammed on the brakes, and threw her into the back of the front seat. The driver opened her car door and ran off down the street, only to be replaced by two young thugs who proceeded to drive them to an abandoned building somewhere in the city. Once stopped they were hustled down to the basement and into a dank, dark little room and became captives. This new "home" was located next to one of the many tunnels in the labyrinth that makes up the sewers of Paris. And this is where Winnie's adventure begins when she escapes the thugs only to find herself in a far more dangerous situation. Her plight worsens as she finds herself attacked by rats, encounters a pack of albino sewer dogs along with a severely wounded ballet dancer named Alain, who becomes her friend. The saga comes to an end when she winds up in the middle of a performance at the Paris Opera, and is rescued by a special friend in the audience. This entire story is brought to us by the computer program, DOGSPEAK, which translated Winnie's canine thoughts into a narrative we are all able to share.
The Missile Kids - On the Road Again: Welcome to North Dakota
The Missile Kids series is a historical fiction young adult series that depicts the life of the Boeing Technicians and Employees who signed on the work on the Minuteman Missile Project starting in the early 60s and finishing in the 70s. Little is known about the 10,000 families who migrated throughout the midwest following the missile sites and stations many coming from the Boeing Factory in Washington State. This story narrated by a preteen during the years from 1960-1970 gives us some idea of how it was to be one of the families whose fathers worked on the "Front Line of the Cold War". The following is from the preface of Book 1 in the Series of Books covering the aforementioned years. "There was a peculiar migrant group in the 1960s that moved at least once or twice every year to a new town in the great plains of the Midwest. All kinds of families made up this group, big and small, from all over the United States. They lived in cities, large and small towns, on farms, air force bases, in apartments, mobile homes, temporary housing, and basements and even in motels. They usually did not live near their relatives and sometimes did not know anyone in the town that they were moving to. When they registered at the school in the new town, they stayed for a couple of months or a year, if they were lucky. They had folding ironing boards, umbrellas and clothes like everyone else but they also had folding beds, folding tables, folding chairs and even . Just about everything they owned could be taken apart and packed into a trailer in an instant. There was ONE thing they all knew for sure; they would be moving somewhere, sometime soon. They were the MISSILE KIDS "

In The Alchemy of My Mortal Form, poet Sandy Longhorn, winner of the 2014 Louise Bogan award, reveals a landscape of the body-its illness, pain, and medical treatment. Her book, a meditation on veins, arms, wolves, and the soul has a cohesive, chronological order that reads more like a story than a collection. Longhorn's lush colloquial baroque unexpectedly rearranges the language of a fragile, fevered body-handled, medicated, and managed by others- with imagery of a "cursive spine," "a lucid secret," and pairings like "symptoms/solstice." Divided into sections of "General Orders," "My Mortal Form," and "Glossary," it is an epistolary tale addressed to an unknown, Dear Madame from the perspective of a woman with an undefined illness, in an unspecific place, who has "hoarded" her scars and keeps "accurate account of rashes, wounds & spells of amnesia." Longhorn's world-building flourishes with interiority and strangeness. From sickling to refugee, the narrator grapples with predictions, "traces the outline of" her escape, and forgives while raw metaphors of a body that is a "salvaged wreck" pulse with the strength of resilience

Desperate to reunite with her captured father, Pepper must throw herself on Rafe's mercy. Now Rafe and Pepper find themselves bound not only by desperation and blood, but also by dangerous secrets that have the power to enslave humanity and threaten vampire survival. These powerful, seductive warriors are thrown into the battle for Earth's control as they strive to overcome personal demons, cruel betrayal, and ruthless enemies. The Kivronian Vampire series touches deep inside the hearts of all people, for every person longs to be free. Enjoy this short excerpt: Rafe halted his advance down Pepper's soft neck. She'd folded against him in ardent surrender, heightening his desire and the difficulty to pull back. Each moan from her drove him to plunder her willing flesh, but lust wasn't love. He knew the truth of that. Satisfying superficial needs wouldn't gain him the depth of her soul. It would end in insanity.
