This official centenary book gives a comprehensive description of the story behind Richard Steiff's creation and the Teddy bear's road to success. Specialist author Gunther Pfeiffer gives a full account of recent discoveries related to the invention and early history of the Teddy bear and presents models that verify these findings. A special insight is given into the various stages of the manufacturing process which is still practised today, as well as the secret of Teddy's overwhelming success.Other chapters relate the 'bearish' experiences of individual people, describe the current collectors' market and look at the significance of the Teddy as a collectable antique. The book is rounded off by a comprehensive resume of the many models produced by Steiff to date. Special attention has been given to the photographs and illustrations selected to accompany the various chapters. An intensive search through the Steiff archives brought many previously undiscovered historical photographs to light which are published here for the first time.
