With the advances of immunohistochemistry in combination with confocal microscopy, airway sensory receptor end-organs can now be examined and evaluated objectively. Based on their ‘neurochemical coding’, morphology, location and origin, three sensory receptor end organs are currently morphologically well-characterised: smooth muscle-associated airway receptors (SMARs), neuroepithelial bodies (NEBs) and visceral pleura receptors (VPRs). The present information on the functional morphological and neurochemical characteristics of these sensory receptors, leads to important conclusions about their (possible) function.

Report on the Elderly in the Netherlands presents an overview of the position of the elderly in Dutch society. The central themes of the Report are participation in education and the labor market, financial status, housing situation, health, participation in physical exercise, take-up of services and care provisions, and use of computers. Elderly members of ethnic minorities and residents of residential care homes and nursing homes are also included. This Report shows that the majority of elderly people living in the Netherlands are doing well. The social participation of elderly people increased in several areas during the 1990s: their participation in the labour market increased and their financial status improved. Nevertheless, there are some areas where additional policy measures are called for. The policy on the elderly needs to focus above all on elderly persons with severe health problems and on those with low socio-economic status. Report on the Elderly in the Netherlands is the fifth in the series published by the Social and Cultural Planning Office (SCP) at the request of the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.
The genealogical section of this book discusses the deep historical connections between music therapy and therapeutic work with the body. The praxeological part deals with current methodological and theoretical approaches and the implementation of physicality in concrete music therapy procedures. These may or may not include physical touch. Of course, music can always touch without the need for concrete physical contact. This is one of the strengths of music therapy treatment, e.g. for children, patients with psychosomatic illnesses or in geriatrics. Unreflected contact with the body, especially in the form of any kind of physical touch, can certainly pose a danger. In some areas, however, psychotherapy does not work at all without spontaneous or targeted touch. Perhaps this book can help to bring all of this more into the discussion: how can we better integrate the use of the body into music therapy training programmes?

This book discusses the impact of taxation on economic growth, employment, investment, consumption and the environment. The public finance literature commonly distinguishes between three major functions of taxation: the traditional function of raising revenue to finance government expenditure; the distributional function as an instrument to alter the distribution of income and wealth amongst households; and the regulatory function that uses taxation at the benefit of stabilization and other economic policies. Especially after the Second World War, OECD countries have increasingly used taxation to achieve a variety of economic and social objectives. Today many governments use the tax system to stimulate economic growth and employment. Fiscal measures also play a role in creating a favourable climate for business investment and to promote a long-term sustainable environmental policy. Currently, in the debate on global warming, the use of tax instruments to tackle climate change is on the top of the international agenda.The authors aim to provide the reader with the necessary empirical information, while at the same time presenting an overview of the latest theory and best practices. In doing so, many relevant policy issues are touched upon.
