Family Maps of Hamilton County, Illinois

218 pages with 50 total maps Locating original landowners in maps has never been an easy task-until now. This volume in the Family Maps series contains newly created maps of original landowners (patent maps) in what is now Hamilton County, Illinois, gleaned from the indexes of the Illinois State Archives. But it offers much more than that. For each township in the county, there are two additional maps accompanying the patent map: a road map and a map showing waterways, railroads, and both modern and many historical city-centers and cemeteries. Included are indexes to help you locate what you are looking for, whether you know a person's name, a last name, a place-name, or a cemetery. The combination of maps and indexes are designed to aid researchers of American history or genealogy to explore frontier neighborhoods, examine family migrations, locate hard-to-find cemeteries and towns, as well as locate land based on legal descriptions found in old documents or deeds. The patent-maps are essentially plat maps but instead of depicting owners for a particular year, these maps show original landowners, no matter when the transfer from the federal government was completed. Dates of patents typically begin near the time of statehood and run into the early 1900s. What's Mapped in this book (that you'll not likely find elsewhere) . . . 3819 Parcels of Land (with original landowner names and patent-dates labeled in the relevant map) 47 Cemeteries plus . . . Roads, and existing Rivers, Creeks, Streams, Railroads, and Small-towns (including some historical), etc. What YEARS are these maps for? Here are the counts for parcels of land mapped, by the decade in which the patent applications were made: DecadeParcel-count 1810s135 1820s21 1830s570 1840s667 1850s2715 1860s11 1870s3 1890s1 What Cities and Towns are in Hamilton County, Illinois (and in this book)? Autonomy and Foreign Language Learning in a Virtual Learning Environment
Digitalised learning with its promise of autonomy, enhanced learner choice, independence and freedom, is an intuitive and appealing construct but closer examination reveals it to be a rather simplistic proposition, raising the following questions. -What do we mean by autonomy? -What are we implying about the role of the teacher, the classroom, and interaction between learners? -What do we understand about the impact of technology on the ecology of the learning environment? This book describes the use of a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) by a group of advanced English language learners in Mexico, comparing what students thought and what they did in response to the technology. The theoretical aim of the book is to work towards the construction of a theory of the development of autonomy and virtual learning in an EFL context. Enhanced understanding about the relationship between autonomy and technology has the potential to inform academics, software designers, materials writers, teacher educators, and teachers and to help learners intheir quest to acquire a foreign language.

She got into her car and shut the door. I turned and walked away but could hear her car start and drive away. She was very beautiful, and I knew then that it would be hard. I looked over my shoulder to a dark corner of the sky and realized that it wasn't a good sky at all but was going to rain. One young man discovers a world outside of himself in Jon-Michael Hamilton's quietly moving debut, A Shade of Blue. It's the '90s, an era of fallen heroes and outdated beliefs. Bryan, a typical college student, has just suffered his first heartbreak and is struggling to make sense of a seemingly inconsequential existence. Bryan's journey takes him further than he ever imagined, through minefields of self-discovery and introspection that eventually lead him into the arms of a woman who may just save him from himself. A beautifully crafted tale full of the hope and awareness that marked the end of '80s voyeurism and the emergence of social consciousness, A Shade of Blue is a powerful testament to the ebb and flow of human awareness.

Ever wonder what it is really like to be a real private eye? Licensed Private Investigator Kimberly Hamilton shares some of her stories and cases from the past 18 years while conducting investigations, working as a bodyguard and serving legal documents in North Carolina. Her stories might not be what you would expect if you watch a lot of reality shows, television, and movies. Although many of her adventures are crazy, unbelievable and absolutely wild at times, some cases are very inspiring, heartwarming and guaranteed to create feel-good moments. The stories are told with a great positive attitude, some wit and sarcasm, and a whole lot of humor. Kimberly believes that everyone has a story and goes beyond the initial investigation to uncover those stories to learn about the individuals themselves, the situations one can find themselves in and while also discovering her very own story as a female private investigator.
