A TUTU Christmas

A TUTU Christmas

I have been telling stories to the children in my life for many years. It has been a fun way to connect with my own children when they were young and now my grandchildren. Many of my stories were born on long road trips. I have told several different series throughout the years. In telling my children and grandchildren stories, it's more than just entertaining them I am trying to instill in them the importance of prayer and the power of faith in Jesus. In most of my stories the child the story is being told to is the main character in the story. We have enjoyed these stories and hope to share many more with you in the future. I hope you enjoy my first book. A TUTU Christmas is a story that I told to my granddaughter Harper. Many of my stories are told in the front porch swing or the swing in the back yard. I love to be taken by the hand by Harper or Huck, my grandchildren and hear them say, "Come on Nana tell me a story." The events in this story as well as the people in the story and Harper's TUTU are real, the dream is pretend. I love to take real life events and embellish them to make a fun story. This book tells about a little girl taking a stand and defending the people she loves, which is something that is right in line with the character of my little Harper. I hope you love this book. God bless.

It’s falling from the sky and in the air we breathe. It’s in our food, our clothes, and our homes. It’s microplastic and it’s everywhere—including our own bodies. Scientists are just beginning to discover how these tiny particles threaten health, but the studies are alarming. In A Poison Like No Other, Matt Simon reveals a whole new dimension to the plastic crisis, one even more disturbing than plastic bottles washing up on shores and grocery bags dumped in landfills. Dealing with discarded plastic is bad enough, but when it starts to break down, the real trouble begins. The very thing that makes plastic so useful and ubiquitous – its toughness – means it never really goes away. It just gets smaller and smaller: eventually small enough to enter your lungs or be absorbed by crops or penetrate a fish’s muscle tissue before it becomes dinner. Unlike other pollutants that are single elements or simple chemical compounds, microplastics represent a cocktail of toxicity: plastics contain at least 10,000 different chemicals. Those chemicals are linked to diseases from diabetes to hormone disruption to cancers. A Poison Like No Other is the first book to fully explore this public health threat, following the intrepid scientists who travel to the ends of the earth and the bottom of the ocean to understand the consequences of our dependence on plastic. As Simon learns from these researchers, there is no easy fix. But we will never curb our plastic addiction until we begin to recognize the invisible particles all around us.

A Guided Tour of Light Beams

A Guided Tour of Light Beams

From science fiction death rays to supermarket scanners, lasers have become deeply embedded in our daily lives and our culture. But in recent decades the standard laser beam has evolved into an array of more specialized light beams with a variety of strange and counterintuitive properties. Some of them have the ability to reconstruct themselves after disruption by an obstacle, while others can bend in complicated shapes or rotate like a corkscrew. These unusual optical effects open new and exciting possibilities for science and technology. For example, they make possible microscopic tractor beams that pull objects toward the source of the light, and they allow the trapping and manipulation of individual molecules to construct specially-tailored nanostructures for engineering or medical use. It has even been found that beams of light can produce lines of darkness that can be tied in knots. This book is an introductory survey of these specialized light beams and their scientific applications, at a level suitable for undergraduates with a basic knowledge of optics and quantum mechanics. It provides a unified treatment of the subject, collecting together in textbook form for the first time many topics currently found only in the original research literature.

Renowned wild horse ecologist Mary Ann Simonds provides a soup-to-nuts manual for stress-reduction in performance horses. Based on her 30-plus years of personal research and experience of wild horse ecology and domestic horse behaviour, as well as data provided by other equine scientists, readers will find a foundation of understanding related to the natural life cycle and history of the horse, from birth to forming friendships and families. The importance of gender, age, breed, culture, and habitat in the horse’s natural development are clarified. Simonds then explores horse-human relationships, communication, care, and training, as well as “the things we do with horses,” clarifying how to reduce the stress typically experienced by horses when pursuing specific equestrian disciplines and activities. Throughout, colour-coded tips, indicating whether its information is “Essential,” “Important,” “Makes Life Better,” or “Ensures Safety,” highlight the different ways riders and trainers can address the horse’s quality of life to ensure stress is minimised or negated whenever possible. Simonds analyses all manner of equestrian activities, including: - Pleasure riding, trail riding, and keeping horses at home. - Training for sport or performance. - Horse shows and competition. - Human-animal interaction programs, such as equine-assisted therapy and horse tourism. - Equine bodyworkers, including chiropractors, acupuncturists, and massage therapists. - Rescues and wild horses. - Clinical work and research. - Shipping and travel. - Sales barns and boarding barns. Fun, friendly, and informative, A Horse By Nature is designed to help both novices and experts gain better insight into how horses think, feel, learn, and generally perceive our human world. It also looks at humans and gives suggestions as to how we can change our own thinking or behaviour to better understand our horses, eliminating unnecessary stress and inhumane treatment while ensuring healthier, better performing equines, whatever the equestrian pursuit.

A fire hydrant has a solitary existence; he is a permanent fixture in cement next to the street. He can withstand all kinds of weather, and people often kick him, splash him, or sit on him. He has seen many different events-with happiness and joy or pain and tears. One day is particularly horrible. First, a car accident happens right in front of him. Traffic slows, and there are sirens, yelling, and honking all around him. Even after that gets cleared away, things do not get better. A dog escapes from its owner and runs around the neighborhood, going from tree to tree and bush to bush, marking everything he can. Then the dog spots the fire hydrant and makes a mad dash. What happens next is the birth of a neighborhood legend. In this children's story, a fire hydrant takes revenge when a rampaging dog decides to mark his territory in the wrong spot.

A Brief Introduction to Machine Learning for Engineers
There is a wealth of literature and books available to engineers starting to understand what machine learning is and how it can be used in their everyday work. This presents the problem of where the engineer should start. The answer is often “for a general, but slightly outdated introduction, read this book; for a detailed survey of methods based on probabilistic models, check this reference; to learn about statistical learning, this text is useful” and so on.This monograph provides the starting point to the literature that every engineer new to machine learning needs. It offers a basic and compact reference that describes key ideas and principles in simple terms and within a unified treatment, encompassing recent developments and pointers to the literature for further study.A Brief Introduction to Machine Learning for Engineers is the entry point to machine learning for students, practitioners, and researchers with an engineering background in probability and linear algebra.

Perhaps it was the New Mexico witch hunts of the 1700 and 1800s that fostered wild supernatural stories that have held so many locals and natives spellbound for centuries. Perhaps the fight between good and evil was brought to the Americas by religion and the customs of the old world. Welcome to a world where the fight between good and evil mixes to produce distinctive cultural stories and local, unique bogeymen. The effects on the culture of the Native Americans and the Spanish Europeans has been profound. The stories and the supernatural experiences continue today. This novel features an all-Native cast of characters. Bowguard, a Jemez Native deep with his own spirituality and religious beliefs, acts as a catalyst for the fight between good and evil in this thrilling fiction. Has he witnessed the fight against the Dark People firsthand? Can saints or medicine men help to control the darkness of his world? What is it that is unnerving about a modern fight for the souls that surround him? When synchronicity meets sacred numbers and owls harvest souls, a cultural suspense story emerges that is riveting in its portrayal. This novel is exciting and it has heart.

A Feminist Approach to the Political World and Appearances
Hannah Arendt's The Human Condition, first published in 1958, considers the importance of worldy existence. She states: "with word and deed we insert ourselves into the human world."2 She then warns that, "A life without speech and without action...is literally dead to the world; it has ceased to be a human life because it is no longer lived among men."3 Speaking and acting allow us to appear before others and facilitate our life in a world made and inhabited by others who speak and act as well. Therefore, following Arendt, we might say that, to deny someone the ability to appear would be to deny his or her life among others.

While the image of bourgeois Victorian women as 'angels in the house' isolated from the world in private domesticity has long been dismissed as an unrealistic ideal, women have remained marginalised in many recent accounts of the public culture of the middle class. Simon Morgan aims to redress the balance, by drawing on a variety of sources including private documents, he argues that women actually played an important role in the formation of the public identity of the Victorian middle class. Through their support for cultural and philanthropic associations and their engagement in political campaigns, women developed a nascent civic identity, which for some informed their later demands for political rights. "Middle Class Women and Victorian Public Culture" offers numerous insights for the reader into the public lives of women in this fascinating period.
