Amy Youngston is Family. It hasn't done much for her until one day, when Raymond Escarton Fields, the head of the Family, hires her to find out who's trying to kill him.The Family has many doctors, lawyers and other professionals, but in all of those thousands of cousins, there's only one private investigator, and that's Amy.She takes the case, but when some party or parties unknown start by bugging her office that very night, it's clear that she can't handle this alone. The only person she can turn to is the one close friend she has (of two) who isn't Family, and, because it is secret, he doesn't even know about it. Until now, because Amy has to tell him. She's not supposed to tell outsiders, but he has to understand what's going on, doesn't he? She could tell him if she married him, and they're certainly close enough, but . . . let's not go there. Amy's got some serious problems with intimate relationships, especially with Alec. Problems she'd rather not think about (but they still keep coming back). When Amy finds that there's as much of a target on her back as Fields had told her was on his, she begins to wonder. Did he hire her because she was the only choice he had - or because he had it in for her? Without some handle on the bad guys, there was no way she could find the answer to this question except to carry on with her investigation. The most frustrating part for Amy is that there doesn't seem to be any reason for someone to want to kill the head of the Family. Of course, the same can't be said for whoever it is that's sending her repeated messages that she's in their crosshairs as well. Especially when they ambush her and Alec, tie them up and proceed to torture them in her own kitchen. As they say, expecting to be killed in the immediate future tends to get one's attention. They've definitely got hers.
Get started using Python in data analysis with this compact practical guide. This book includes three exercises and a case study on getting data in and out of Python code in the right format. Learn Data Analysis with Python also helps you discover meaning in the data using analysis and shows you how to visualize it. Each lesson is, as much as possible, self-contained to allow you to dip in and out of the examples as your needs dictate. If you are already using Python for data analysis, you will find a number of things that you wish you knew how to do in Python. You can then take these techniques and apply them directly to your own projects. If you aren’t using Python for data analysis, this book takes you through the basics at the beginning to give you a solid foundation in the topic. As you work your way through the book you will have a better of idea of how to use Python for data analysis when you are finished. What You Will LearnGet data into and out of Python codePrepare the data and its formatFind the meaning of the dataVisualize the data using iPythonWho This Book Is For Those who want to learn data analysis using Python. Some experience with Python is recommended but not required, as is some prior experience with data analysis or data science.
Jack Christie doesn't believe in dreams, myth or magic. He believes in facts, but suddenly he is challenged by a tall, dark, unreal stranger. A mysterious Molokai Man.Uptight New York writer Jack Christie inherits his uncle's estate including a small publishing house he never knew Cameron Christie owned. Among Cameron's papers are the deed to an old house on the remote island of Molokai-they call it the last Hawaiian Island-and a court summons. Cameron is being sued by relatives of one of the last remaining survivors of the former leper colony, Kalaupapa.Cameron published a journal sent to him by the man who relatives say could not have written the book since he does not have the use of his hands and is senile. In an effort to hold onto the small amount of money that he's inherited, his uncle's hard-earned business, not to mention Cameron's reputation, Jack reluctantly travels to Molokai to solve the mystery. This shut-down New Yorker encounters more than he bargained for on this island shaped by myth and magic. He meets an island man who could be straight out of his dreams. And Jack, who has always managed to keep his emotions under control, isn't sure he's ready to fall for a hot, sexy Molokai Man.

This book has been written as part of a series of scientific books being published by Plenum Press. The scope of the series is to review a chosen topic in each volume. To supplement this information, the abstracts to the most important references cited in the text are reprinted, thus allowing the reader to find in-depth material without having to refer to many additional publications. This volume is dedicated to the field of dry (plasma) etching, as applied in silicon semiconductor processing. Although a number of books have appeared dealing with this area of physics and chemistry, these all deal with parts of the field. This book is unique in that it gives a compact, yet complete, in-depth overview of fundamentals, systems, processes, tools, and applications of etching with gas plasmas for VLSI. Examples are given throughout the fundamental sections, in order to give the reader a better insight in the meaning and magnitude of the many parameters relevant to dry etching. Electrical engineering concepts are emphasized to explain the pros and cons of reactor concepts and excitation frequency ranges. In the description of practical applications, extensive use is made of cross-referencing between processes and materials, as well as theory and practice. It is thus intended to provide a total model for understanding dry etching. The book has been written such that no previous knowledge of the subject is required. It is intended as a review of all aspects of dry etching for silicon semiconductor processing.
A brutal killing of an old girlfriend disrupts the college social life of Herman Harris. What should you do if you meet a unicorn or a phoenix? Where would you look if you want to see a griffin or a hippogriff? How do you defend yourself if a minotaur or harpy attacks you? These mythical beasts may not be real, but what if they were? This handy field guide gives you everything you need to understand these fantastic creatures of the imagination.
Five hundred years ago, a mysterious virus swept across the world causing death and mutation across living things. Variants continued over the centuries as pre-industrial humanity struggled to cope, investing in science. It all formed a very different world. For some, the new day is perilous while for others routine. But for some, it is an opportunity to shape a new world in their favor. One woman who finds herself thrown into the epicenter of conflict must navigate her way.
Spies! Loyalists! Tories! Conspiracy! Strange messages? Codes in invisible ink? The American Revolution was first and foremost a civil war that tore at the very fabric of families as well as society. Patriots were determined to separate from England; while Loyalists were just as determined to defeat what they saw as a rebellion. Many do not know that during several critical periods the war was almost fatally undermined by English sympathizers or in some cases opportunistic Patriots. Patriots and Spies in Revolutionary New York is a compilation of twelve stories regarding important moments in New York State's history during the American Revolution.
