Meet a little seed with a big dream...In the middle of winter, a little seed sleeps snuggly deep within the earth. The hopeful seed dreams about what it would be like to fly, soaring above the earth with the freedom of a bird. Spring arrives and the seed starts to grow. Will she be able to keep her dream alive as she grows and changes? Help your child discover that every dream starts as a tiny seed This story explores the fascinating journey of a flowering plant, from seedling to seed dispersal, told through the adventures of an optimistic seed. It also promotes self-confidence and the realization that anything is possible, especially with a positive mindset. Reviews for The Little Seed: "The Little Seed incorporates poetry with plant science in such a beautiful manner - very motivating, and will help open the eyes of eager young scientists. Weaves enchantment with science and will help open the door to lasting interest in the natural world. Think of the possibilities for it becoming the 'bones for poems, science lessons, and illustrations.'"Cindy Adams, Executive Director, Scientists in School; M.Sc., Plant EcologyAdele Lamothe has introduced us to our new favorite friend. Thanks to her spirited raindrops named Splish and Splash, they watered the ground allowing The Little Seed to bloom. Ad le Ogi r Jones has worked internationally for more than two decades, much of it in development, more recently in regions affected by conflict. From 2004 to 2006, when these poems were written, she lived in Afghanistan, leading the education program of the Aga Khan Foundation in northern and central provinces. Political themes are common in these poems, though more often it is the snapshot of ordinary Afghan people affected by the ongoing war, and the international security assistance forces and international aid agencies which feature. Many of these poems were written in desperation, some with hope but all for Afghan people whose voices have been lost in the weariness of war. 'This is not the snake oil version of events purveyed by military and government spokespersons, nor the confused swill of corporate media. It is a quiet contemplation in 54 poetic works written by a civilian woman in sojourn with Afghani people. A book to embrace.' - Rhonda Jankovic, Spoken Word, 3CR

Chiperoni: term for a kind of fog, drizzle rain, experienced in the Shire Highlands of southern Malawi during the cold, dry season; name derived from Mount Chiperone, an isolated mountain peak at the southern extremity of East African mountain ranges, covered with montane forests and surrounded by deciduous woodlands.Ad le Ogi r Jones has lived and worked in Malawi over different periods since 2007. Poems in Counting the Chiperoni were written between 2017 and 2018. They are grouped in three sections, opening with those related to 'chiperoni', the weather phenomenon coming from Mozambique, affecting Malawi's southern Shire Highlands around Blantyre. Then 'bush and plantation' includes poems on changing land use; followed by the longest part of the collection 'and its people', which moves between local people's memories rewritten here as poems, and the poet's own reflections on present-day life, work, and customs affected by environmental and economic changes.

A definitive biography of an iconic Canadian architect—and a social portrait of the midcentury design world he lived in. Ron Thom came of age in the mid-20th century, just as the modern movement and an impending building boom were about to reshape the country. Talented in music and art as well as design, he rejected sleek austerity in favor of modern architecture that is warm, intimate, and beautiful. He worked from coast to coast, and his most renowned buildings—Massey College, Trent University, the Shaw Festival Theatre, and landmark houses—continue to inspire generations of architects, as well as the legions of people who work, study, visit, and live in them.In Adele Weder’s new biography, Thom emerges as a complex figure, gifted with creative genius but pursued by demons. More than just the life story of one man, this book is a portrait of the society that shaped him. His world included Jack Shadbolt, Arthur Erickson, the Massey family, Barbara, and Murray Frum, and many other luminaries of 20th-century Canada. To unpack this multifaceted story, Weder pored through institutional and personal archives in Victoria, Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, Peterborough, and Toronto. She tracked down and interviewed Thom’s surviving friends, colleagues, and family members across the country, from New Brunswick to Vancouver Island. Her extensive research serves as the bedrock for Ron Thom, Architect—a book for anyone interested in a transformative era in Canada's cultural history.

Why do we travel the world to discover where home really is? Even if we find it in the place we started from, is it ever really the same? In buckled into the sky, Adele Graf routes our search for home through ancestors in their own country and family who settled abroad. Yet it's only after travel that we're drawn to "zigzag back" to our "pillared front door" — whether that's our current home, our childhood home, our mind's home, our home in the world — or all of these at once. We'd left home, had even ignored our "house with its blue shutters," because, as these vivid and tender poems assure us, "it will always be there."

Ask a woman about love and you are likely to hear about heartbreak. Ask about her identity, and shame and frustration leak out. Ask about rest and enjoyment, and you will hear laments about time and busyness. We live a small fraction of the life God has for us. The Bible stories in this study follow the journeys of women such as Sarai, Puah and Shiphrah, Ruth, Hagar, Naomi, Hannah and Mary, who learned in the crucible of hardships that God's invitation to them was to live wholehearted lives.
