Birth Strike

Birth Strike

When House Speaker Paul Ryan urged U.S. women to have more children, and Ross Douthat requested "More babies, please," they openly expressed what U.S. policymakers have been discussing for decades with greater discretion. Using technical language like "age structure," "dependency ratio," and "entitlement crisis," establishment think tanks are raising the alarm: if U.S. women don't have more children, we'll face an aging workforce, slack consumer demand, and a stagnant economy. Feminists generally believe that a prudish religious bloc is responsible for the fight over reproductive freedom in the U.S., but hidden behind this conventional explanation is a dramatic fight over women's reproductive labor. On one side, elite policymakers want an expanding workforce reared with a minimum of employer spending and a maximum of unpaid women's work. On the other side, women are refusing to produce children at levels desired by economic planners. With little access to childcare, family leave, health care, and with insufficient male participation, U.S. women are conducting a spontaneous birth strike. In other countries, panic over low birth rates has led governments to underwrite childbearing with generous universal programs, but in the U.S., women have not yet realized the potential of our bargaining position. When we do, it will lead to new strategies for winning full access to abortion and birth control, and for improving the difficult working conditions U.S. parents now face when raising children.

Jasmine has the mission as a rogue vampire assassin to chase down a rogue in Wales. When she meets Stasio, she thinks he could provide a cover for her as her pseudo-boyfriend while she eliminates the rogue. But another assassin, who keeps stealing her missions, thwarts her. The next thing she knows, he claims Stasio is a rogue vampire No way Stasio is a Welsh prince escaping the Dallas League of Vampires-with his three prince friends, and a witch, who his friend had turned and is now one of them-to return to their native Wales where they were also considered rogues. They'd tried to overthrow their League centuries earlier, lost their castles, and had fled. Surely, no one would ever think they would return. But then everything is turned upside down and Jasmine is stuck running as a rogue with Stasio and his friends. But that's not the end of it. When they arrive in Scotland to flee the peril, a group of Scottish vampires want to overthrow their own League and they want the princes to help them. Do they do it and risk it all? Will Jasmine leave them and find her own way? If they help them fight the vampire elders and lose like they did with their own League centuries ago, will they survive this time? These are the questions they have to answer before they get themselves even more over their heads than they already are and lose them this time.

The text of the Bible is the main focus, accompanied by stories, illustrations, thoughts, or questions. The aim of each is to encourage, 'build up' but also challenge the reader to a deeper walk with God and obedience to His Word.Endorsement: A year or so ago, I saw a blog of Terry Nightingale's and thoroughly enjoyed what he had written. I responded to it with a comment, which he appreciated very much. As a result of our connection, I started receiving his blog journals every time he posted them. I found the subjects of each of his blogs insightful, and at times they uniquely ministered to me at the most appropriate time or to a situation in my life. With each of the articles, Terry has graced us with the godly wisdom that can only come from the Holy Spirit, and his time spent seeking the Lord. What he shares will speak to anyone, no matter their gender, age, education, life experiences, geographical location, or social position, because they are rooted in the Word of God, which is timeless. As a pastor and shepherd of his flock, Terry has tapped into the mind, heart, and spirit of the Great Shepherd of the Church. Take the time to read, and meditate on each article, because they will enrich your life, mind, and soul. In the times that we now live, we need more than just what we hear in church on Sunday morning: we need continual input, and I know that this book will be a great blessing to you.-Keith D. This is a story of when the earth began. There were no other humans in existence, but there lived two superbeings--a man and a woman. The man and the woman were very much in love but longed for more, so they went to the creator and asked him to send them someone to share their love with. The creator agreed but warned that this could become a heavy burden. Soon after, they had a little girl they would name Storm. Storm was very special because, when she would cry, it would rain and, when she was happy, the sun would shine.Storm and her mother possessed the same powers. They could grow plants with the wave of the hand. The mother began to teach Storm about her gift and how to use it.One day, Storm became curious about the bright light in the sky, so she came up with an idea--she asked the man, "How strong are you?" Then Storm said, "Throw me as high as you can." The man, thinking only with his strength, mustered all his strength and tossed Storm up so high. The man waited and waited for Storm to return, but he knew he had done something wrong because she was taking too long and it began to rain. The man wondered if he would ever see his daughter again.

BITE AN INCISIVE HIST OF TEETH FROM HAGF
From three-inch fang blennies to thirty-foot prehistoric crocodiles, from gaboon vipers to Neanderthals, Bite is a fascinating journey through the natural, scientific, and cultural history of something right in front of--or in--our faces: teeth. In Bite, zoologist Bill Schutt makes a surprising case: it is teeth that are responsible for the long-term success of vertebrates. The appearance of teeth, roughly half a billion years ago, was an adaptation that allowed animals with backbones, such as fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, dinosaurs and mammals--including us--to chow down in pretty much every conceivable environment. And it's not just food. Tusks and fangs have played crucial roles as defensive weapons--glimpsing the upper canines of snarling dogs is all it takes to know that teeth are an efficient means of aggression. Vampire bats use their razor-sharp teeth to obtain a widespread but generally untappable resource: blood. Early humans employed their teeth as tools to soften tough fibers and animal hides. Our teeth project information and social status--the ancient Etruscans were the first to wear tooth bling, and it's doubtful that George Washington would have been elected president without the false teeth he wore. So much of what we know about life on this planet has come from the study of fossilized teeth, which have provided information not only about evolution but also about famine, war, and disease. In his signature witty style, the author of Pump and Cannibalism shows us how our continued understanding of teeth may help us humans through current and future crises, from Alzheimer's disease to mental health issues. Bite is popular science at its best and will appeal to readers of Mary Roach, Merlin Sheldrake, and Ed Yong.

The Nephilim, men of renown, as written in Genesis 6: 1-2, the result of the angelic cohabitating with human females. The first century church understood this to be a reality, but some church fathers considered this rendering mistranslated and even heresy. Although today many Christians do not believe this concept, the very core of Christianity epitomizes pregnancy from the mixture of flesh and spirit. The spiritual world is far more symbiotic to us than we realize. The ubiquitous presence of flesh and spirits influence our minds every day. Unfortunately, some of these spirits are malevolent in nature and are the direct cause of children being born with spiritual and physical anomalies. Can the demonic manipulate human DNA? Consider this: if a mother on crack gives birth to a crack baby, then what will a demon-possessed mother give birth to?This book is one of the most powerful I have read in a long time. When I finished the last few chapters, I physically felt my jaw drop Don't be fooled by the length of this stunner, it makes up for any brevity by the sheer power of Mr. Yarbough's message.Amazon review by M. HaasPharisaical Jews used ineffable names or the Tetragrammaton to invoke demons, but the seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish Chief Priest, could not use the name of Jesus Christ to exorcise a demon (Acts 19:11-16). The demon recognized Jesus and Paul but did not recognize the Jews who call on ineffable names.Jesus said He came in His Father's name (John 5:43). Is the Tetragrammaton the Father's name or is it a magic word used by the ancient Babylonians? Jesus told the Pharisees, "See Your house is left to you desolate; for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord '"(Matthew 23:38-39) Stephen's words to the Pharicees before he was martyred: Acts 7:38-43.
