This is a play about children born as twins, and their fate. Some of them had to die and some were hidden away and often sold. Many read, saw and remember the "Iron Mask". This play is written in the classic poetic style of the rhythm and rhyme. This book is also illustrated with vintage and antique drawings and engravings. This is good to read and most likely, to act in the theatrical setting.

Post-Soviet Literature and the Search for a Russian Identity
This book examines a wide range of contemporary Russian writers whose work, after the demise of Communism, became more authoritative in debates on Russia’s character, destiny, and place in the world. Unique in his in-depth analysis of both playful postmodernist authors and fanatical nationalist writers, Noordenbos pays attention to not only the acute social and political implications of contemporary Russian literature but also literary form by documenting the decline of postmodern styles, analyzing shifting metaphors for a “Russian identity crisis,” and tracing the emergence of new forms of authorial ethos. To achieve this end, the book builds on theories of postcoloniality, trauma, and conspiracy thinking, and makes these research fields productively available for post-Soviet studies.

The Civil War and early Soviet food policies left millions of children homeless and starving in Russia in the first half of the 20th century. Child mortality rates reached 95% in certain areas, and all of these problems remained endemic throughout the 1920s and 1930s. In The Dark Side of Early Soviet Childhood, 1917-1941, Boris B. Gorshkov investigates the causes of this prolonged homelessness and starvation, the conditions faced by huge numbers of children, and the state’s unsuccessful efforts to solve these horrendous issues. Gorshkov pays particular attention to the critical role of the secret police (the VChKa and the NKVD) in this story and draws on a range of previously unused archival sources to reveal the full extent of the suffering of children in Russia at this time, as well as the interconnected causes behind it.

The peasantry accounted for the large majority of the Russian population during the Imperialist and Stalinist periods – it is, for the most part, how people lived. Peasants in Russia from Serfdom to Stalin provides a comprehensive, realistic examination of peasant life in Russia during both these eras and the legacy this left in the post-Soviet era.The book paints a full picture of peasant involvement in commerce and local political life and, through Boris Gorshkov’s original ecology paradigm for understanding peasant life, offers new perspectives on the Russian peasantry under serfdom and the emancipation. Incorporating recent scholarship, including Russian and non-Russian texts, along with classic studies, Gorshkov explores the complex interrelationships between the physical environment, peasant economic and social practices, culture, state policies and lord-peasant relations. He goes on to analyze peasant economic activities, including agriculture and livestock, social activities and the functioning of peasant social and political institutions within the context of these interrelationships. Further reading lists, study questions, tables, maps, primary source extracts and images are also included to support and enhance the text wherever possible.Peasants in Russia from Serfdom to Stalin is the crucial survey of a key topic in modern Russian history for students and scholars alike.

To Boris Groys, everything in the modern world ultimately falls into two categories – it’s either art, or it’s garbage. Both are useless, functionless objects that simply… lie there. The difference comes when we immunize art from the destructive power of time to which we happily deliver our garbage. In this collection of essays and interviews, Groys expounds on these lines of thinking, taking in art, the dialectic of work, the afterlife, politics, utopia, philosophy, faith, revolution, the avant-garde and digitalization. Boris Groys’ philosophical writings critique the political economy of heterotopia: economic resources are finite and not everything in modernity receives the same degree of care. His writings on art concern the things of the after-life, with only the politics of immortality ensuring that one’s own form of life never becomes a piece of garbage. Groys sees modern history is a history of aestheticizations, and with every aestheticization comes a claim of protection. Western society tends to aestheticize with a desire to protect everything, including the Anthropocene and all of the exotic species dwelling within it. If we can present ourselves as objects of reverence worthy of admiration and care, then can we too survive the ravages of time?Bringing together previously unpublished texts, newly translated work and interviews, this is a coruscating trip through the complex and challenging philosophical and cultural problems that Boris Groys has made it his life’s work to deal with.

The time is now. The former Soviet Republics have officially became democratic and friendly with the whole world. The crime is on the rise. In the seventies and the eighties, thousands of Soviet Jews left the country. Antisemitism, social and political issues made it more and more unbearable. The sudden opening in the policy made it possible to leave the country and free themselves. Years later, they are people of the world while the Russian crime is choking it. Alex, a Russian born former Israeli commando, is called to help in destroying the Russian Mafia operating in Russia and in the West. This is his chance to bay back for the death of the parents. "From Russia with Hate" is connected to the previous Mr. Zubry book "And Winds of Revolution Blew..." but not necessarily a continuation. Yet, some characters are the same.

This is a collection of satiric essays, poetry, and words of wisdom (author's quotations) written over the years and in different corners of the world. Most of it is not politically correct and reflects the feelings at the time and the place. Some places were more abrasive on the thoughts of the author that the others. Some of it was conceived in the Soviet Union, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, and some in the United States. Still, if you look at it from the right angle, it would tickle your funny bone.

When the Germans invaded the Soviet Union in 1941 the Red Army had four times as many tanks as the Wehrmacht and their tanks were seemingly superior, yet the Wehrmacht won the border battles with extraordinary ease the Red Armys tank force was pushed aside and for the most part annihilated. How was this victory achieved, and were the Soviet tanks really as well designed as is often believed? These are the basic questions Boris Kavalerchik answers in this absorbing study of the tanks and the tank tactics of the two armies that confronted each other at the start of the war on the Eastern Front. Drawing on technical and operational documents from Russian archives, many of which were classified until recently and are unknown to Western readers, he compares the strengths and weakness of the tanks and the different ways in which they were used by the opposing armies. His work will be essential reading for military historians who are interested in the development of armoured warfare and in this aspect of the struggle on the Eastern Front.

_Operation Bagration_ analyses the great Russian offensive in Belorussia in the summer of 1944 covering the planning of the operation as well as the German plans of the summer campaign of 1944\. In depth research sets out to determine the real ratio of the Soviet and German forces as well as their actual losses during the operation. As well as some good decisions, command on both sides made some crucial mistakes as well as main tactical errors all of which are studied in this book to produce a fully rounded view of the campaign and highlights a connection to Operation Overlord by proving that it was only due to the landing at Normandy that the Soviet forces were able to destroy the German Army Group Centre while the elite mobile forces were concentrated in France.

In his famous Moonlight and Vodka, Chris de Burgh got it right: Espionage is a serious business. And like every serious business, it must be taken seriously. Less than two decades after the untimely death of Sasha Litvinenko, poisoned at the heart of London's Mayfair by Russian secret agents by the previously unknown radioactive substance containing a fatal dose of Polonium-210, it is hardly remembered by anyone in the West. No wonder, we live in an information-rich world when the wealth of information means a dearth of something else: a scarcity of whatever it is that information consumes. Such an obvious thing was suddenly discovered by a simple old man from Milwaukee, and he's got a point there. This book is about the murder of Alexander Litvinenko, whose legal case seems to many people like open-and-shut. Even to his widow Marina and their son. To MI6, MI5 and the Special Operations branch of the London's Metropolitan Police who presented it to the public as thoroughly investigated and closed. To judge Sir Robert Owen appointed to hold the inquest into the death of a Russian Spy as the BBC and other media has put it - a terrible mistake. To journalists and writers who had been following this case for as long as a decade, not to mention the prime suspect living a good life in Moscow. But not for me. For me this case remains open.
